I just feels wrong to watching a Caps game and not hearing Joe B.

FOR THOSE WITH DIRECT TV PROBLEMS:

here's what people are saying about direct tv

My Directv schedule shows the game on 786, 786-1, and 787.
I do not see it on the NHL channel, but I am out west.

Found it.

I think this is the problem: By default, when the season approaches, the guide doesn't force all the stations into your favorites list. I had to add 786 and up manually. Mine only had up to 785 and 785-1 and I suspect that this is what happened to other people.

The game is on DirecTV on the 3 stations you just listed... there must not be an HD feed for Buffalo, hence no 787-1.

this comes from people from previous thread, hope it helps

It's on CSN+.

Channel 334 on VZ FiOS in Howard county.

Feed on atdhe.net is down. Are there any other suggestions for those of us out of the area without Direct TV or Home Ice?

TO EVERYONE HAVING PROBLEMS VIEWING THE GAME:

refer to the last comment section. Several of us spent all afternoon trying to figure out where the game was being televised. Hopefully, you will find more than enough information, and will be cheering the Caps on along with me. Good luck!

semin is awesome - backstrom buried that one

For you Game Center users, I recommend switching to the Sabres feed as it's in HD. Sabres commentors are pretty good.

Beautiful set-ups on both goals. Nice work by Semin and Chimera.

20 good minutes - 40 to go

Posted by: Capt_Kirk_in_AZ | November 17, 2010 7:47 PM | Report abuse

Ovie has to start trusting MaJo and dish the puck. MaJo has been open twice now without getting the pass.

Posted by: jakopz | November 17, 2010 7:47 PM | Report abuse

Bottle that period up. The skating and effort was outstanding.

I expect a let down because the Caps aren't used to skating/working that hard but the film of that period can be used all season long.

We did to them what teams often to do us... we dominated the neutral zone and on the forecheck.

Penalties and icings galore... that happens when you outwork your opponent.

I'm so sorry.....adthe.net has never failed me. If anyone else has a feed that is working, please post it so other fans can watch it. Both of my emergency sites are down. On the last thread Tmac2yao posted this:

Also, atdhe is a good option for free but for a few bucks, http://www6.hockeystreams.com is much better quality and you can purchase game to game. I used them last season for several games when Versus and DTV were in that dispute. The quality is excellent if you have even a decent home setup.

Good luck! Sorry

Ok, Boudreau whacking the pinata penguin is AWESOME!!!!!!..........maybe I've seen too many bad commercials, but that kicked penguin ass!!! He got paid to do that, and if I had kids, I'd be glad to do it too!

Posted by: pittshater | November 17, 2010 8:29 PM | Report abuse

I suspected there would be a letdown.

There are shifts in momentum in every game. The key is to be able to better withstand when the opposition has the momentum.

I can live with the PP goal. We got caught being over-aggressive and not executing when we had a chance to clear.

The real bad part was giving up that 2nd goal.

Other than that, I'm still highly impressed with the way they played in the 1st. They weren't going to be able to sustain that level. They just needed to do better resisting and containing Buffalo during the shift in momentum.

MaJo is 9 of 13 in faceoffs. He's improving, no.

LOL WTF

Posted by: nicety251 | November 17, 2010 9:31 PM | Report abuse

...and MaJo was indeed our BEST on Faceoffs!

I also thought he skated well and made some plays at both ends.

The points will come.

Posted by: wtf_e_fehr | November 17, 2010 9:31 PM | Report abuse

Well, there was some definite good in that game despite the sloppy 48 seconds in the 2nd!

Ovie started really hitting and digging again...something he tends to do 1-2 games before he starts to break out of a slump.

MaJo looked pretty good...definite potential...but as much as he handles the puck well, he needs to get off better shots and passes.

Green did a great job focusing on D...as soon as he saw a risk he fell right back.

What the heck was with those refs!!!! we drew more than those 2 penalties in the first...they missed at least two blatant calls against us.

Posted by: capscoach | November 17, 2010 9:35 PM | Report abuse

High praise for the 1st pd effort.

I expected us to have another surge in the 3rd pd but it never happened. We were largely on our heels after the first few minutes of the 2nd pd all the way till the end of the game. We squeaked that one out. I would've liked to see us do a little better nullifying their forecheck and keeping possession of the puck.

Still, the 1st pd was excellent. No team is going to dominate like that for 60 min but we could've done better during several stretches in the 2nd and 3rd as far as winning puck battles and executing better.

Posted by: tmac2yao | November 17, 2010 9:36 PM | Report abuse

steckels line was our best line and was awarded with good ice time.

I liked the semin-backs-laich combo. They had a lot of chemistry. A few pretty near goals.

I can see Ovie tryin like the Dickens, but he get a ton of attention, and everyones best effort.

The attitude amongst opposing players must be "You won't add ME to your HIGHLIGHT REEL MR. OVECHKIN"

Posted by: wtf_e_fehr | November 17, 2010 9:37 PM | Report abuse

And here we are again, right back in that "Expect to win every game" mentality!

Posted by: wtf_e_fehr | November 17, 2010 9:43 PM | Report abuse

I don't like Backs on the 2nd line...Ovie then has no one to feed him.

I say put MaJo on the 2nd line...everything else looked fine (line wise)

Posted by: capscoach | November 17, 2010 9:44 PM | Report abuse

Nice distribution of minutes in this one O/A.

BB was rollin his lines.

Posted by: wtf_e_fehr | November 17, 2010 9:47 PM | Report abuse

The team is now on pace for 125 points - but will probably end up somewhere in the 112 - 120 point range.

Posted by: MReilly9 | November 17, 2010 9:57 PM | Report abuse

Our D alone had 8 giveaways and I'm guessing that at least half of them came in the 3rd.

The Sabres as a team had a single giveaway.

Carlson made a couple of sketchy plays down the stretch. One led to the Chimera penalty. Another led to a faceoff in our zone.

Schultz had some pretty sketchy moments, too. It looked to me like he was struggling with the pace of this particular game. His lack of speed and skating ability concerns me.

Steckel was great and I'm not much of a fan of his overall game.

Gordon, on the other hand, looked like he didn't really have it tonight. Wasn't battling hard enough or skating very well for the most part.

Ovechkin just hasn't brought much to the table in the last few games. He completely let up on a couple of backchecks but did make a handful of nice defensive plays. Better than nothing I guess. I do wish he'd put more consistent effort into his defensive game.

Neuvirth made some big saves but after that rock solid stretch to start the season, he's looked his age for stretches in just about every game recently.

Posted by: tmac2yao | November 17, 2010 10:16 PM | Report abuse

I think maybe MaJo was on the second line. ;^)

I would be interested in ice time. It seemed like every time I looked up, it seemed like the Steckel line was on the ice

Posted by: ebolean1 | November 17, 2010 10:19 PM | Report abuse

And Bradley and Chimera brought the energy tonight for sure. Chimera's late penatly was mostly on Carlson from what I saw.

Knuble was working hard, too.

Johansson showed off his skating and made a few slick plays tonight. He works pretty hard along the boards for a kid his age which is a good sign. He doesn't seem too afraid of mixing it up. He also has plenty to work on but the early signs are pretty good. You can see that he's still adjusting to the league and his teammates but that's expected. I don't think anybody could've expected much more from him at this stage.

POSTGAME THOUGHTS:

A good start and gritty effort despite a :48 braincramp. It happens. This team showed a lot of character and didn't wilt but still needs to get that killer mentality and finish teams off.

NEUVIRTH - is a flat out beast. Got some help from the posts but some of those saves were dynamite. Nice work by the kid to refocus after those two quick goals in the second.

Chimera - I can't say enough about his speed and how he can change momentum in a game. Great stuff tonight.

A good character win and good payback against Buffalo.

Time to head south and avenge our last loss in Atlanta on Friday.

It's been a two point night.

ICE BREAKERS - GOAL SHAKERS

Posted by: Jonathan6 | November 17, 2010 10:34 PM | Report abuse

With MaJo's speed and defensive instincts, he would be OK playing on the third line now. He and Chimera would provide a lot of speed for a checking line. The problem that I see is that, at this stage of his development, MaJo is just not an offensive threat. The Caps website shows him with 1 goal and zero assists in 9 games. He is just not the guy you want centering a line with world class wings like Semin or Ovi. I'm not sure he will ever be that guy. He just looks like a 3rd line guy to me. Which brings me back to GMGM's failure to bring in a veteran 2C this summer.

Posted by: zmega | November 17, 2010 10:37 PM | Report abuse

Toews with a natural hat trick in less than a 7 min stretch and 2 were at even strength. Still 15 min left in the 2nd pd.

Posted by: tmac2yao | November 17, 2010 10:39 PM | Report abuse

And the Hawks are outshooting the Oilers 26-6 and each team has only had 1 PP.

Posted by: tmac2yao | November 17, 2010 10:43 PM | Report abuse

Good win! It's November, so the main goals are to rack up points and keep everyone relatively healthy. Check and check.

-MaJo didn't look out of place at all on the top line. Still needs to pack on a few pounds of muscle, but he wasn't the weak link on that line (Sorry Mike. It's you again). I'd still like to see him move down a line or two.

-3rd line was awesome. Who knew Jason Chimera could make passes like that? Who would have thought Steckel would score on the reigning Olympic MVP and Vezina winner?

-I am worried about the USA's chances in Sochi ;-)

-Backstrom finally looked like Backstrom.

-It's time to give the defense some credit for locking it down in the 3rd. After the penalties, the ice naturally tilted in the Sabres favor, but I credit the D for clogging the lanes and limiting the quality scoring chances.

-It will be interesting to see how the goalie situation pans out. If the playoffs started today, I wouldn't feel comfortable with any of them in net. Varly is injured, Holtby is green, Neuvy has been "tired" a lot lately. As the season progresses and the games start to mean more, I can see this becoming the Caps Achilles heel. These guys are young and shouldn't be expected to carry this team to a Cup. Hopefully, the improvements in team D will carry through the season. If not, I wouldn't be shocked if the Caps brought in a veteran goalie by the trade deadline.

-Again, good win. I hope GMGM is thinking of a way to snatch Beaucheim from the Leafs. They need scoring and the Toronto fans hate him just as much as Caps fans hate a certain LW/C. Could be the perfect trade!
