Caps announce plans to unveil Winter Classic jersey
The Caps will unveil the uniforms they're going to wear in the Winter Classic on New Year's Day in Pittsburgh at the Caps Convention on Oct. 2, the team announced this afternoon.
The folks in Arlington are being tight-lipped about the design and logo, but I quoted owner Ted Leonsis recently as saying the Classic uniforms will "pay homage" to the past.
I am, however, hearing that those hideous white shorts won't be worn. Whew.
Also, I'm at a rest stop in Frederick on my way to Hershey for tonight's Game 6 between the Bears and Stars. The Bears rallied from down 2-0 and can clinch the Calder Cup tonight at Giant Center and become the first team to win back to back titles since 1991.
Consider this your open thread for the game, which will be televised by Comcast SportsNet at 7 p.m.

With the updgrades in materials, you know they could have made the white shorts today so they wouldn't have shown sweat and ice grime like they did in 1974. It actually would have been kind of cool. When Ted says "pay homage to the past", I hope he doesn't mean today's jersey with an old style Capitals patch in the corner! Maybe they'll be like the boxing robe Rocky wore in the original that had the name of the meat packing plant on the back. I can see Alex's jersey now with "Wizards tickets available through Ticketmaster" sewn on the back!

Well there aint to many different caps jerseys to "pay homage" too so I'm kinda up in the air on that one.Its either red,white,and blue w/stars,or blue and black.Maybe hopefully they go outside the box and come up with a whole new look thats between the two,or something like that.Anyway,it should be cool! Atleast they'll be in the game!! GO CAPS!!!
And,GO BEARS! Atleast theres a caps affiliated team that knows what it takes to make it to the playoffs and WIN! Maybe the caps should learn from some of there history to do what it takes to win a cup.As long as we have neuvy next year we'll be ok!!

just say no to white shorts - not because they would/could look bad - but because it makes it easier for the goalie to see the puck. dark shorts would work for me

Off to the the Giant Center. Will focus on watching Neuvy, Carly and Alzner. Carlson using his superior quickness and strength on the right side has completely shut down in the series the Texas Stars top offensive weapon big 6'2" 210 lbs. Jamie Benn who scored 22 goals playing the entire year for Dallas in the NHL. Let's see if he can do it one more time.

And to think, I finally weakened and bought a new white jersey my last game..... should've held out for the Classic sweater.

I'm just hoping it's red. Pens wore baby blue as the away team in Buff, no reason the Caps can't go with red in Pitt.

hey Tarik, they're called "pants" or "shells" not short. You can at least act like you know something about hockey.

I think the original red jersey with the red pants would be cool and would go with the "Rock the Red" theme. Here is what I am talking about http://nhluniforms.com/Capitals/Capitals01.html only going with the red shirt and the red pants with them.

I'm glad they're not wearing the white shorts, though it would be funny if they did.

@chrisclarksucks:
why don't you take your nit-picky negativity to Pittsburgh! It's certainly not needed or wanted here! Especially when you go after TEB and all the hard work he's done these past years! Get it? Got it? Good!

chrisclarksucks, he knows at least as much about hockey as you do. Do us all a favor and go back to not posting.

@capsfansince74
The old bullets unis would actually be pretty cool. The bars (was it red-blue-red?) and stars. Not the Elvis Haircut with a bird logo, not the Capitol building...

not sure what you all are talking about...white pants with a white jersey would look smooth

FWIW, I think this would be the time to introduce a "third sweater". If that proves to be the case, I very much hope it is a big honkin' Weagle on a red or navy sweater...like this:

chrisclarksucks, if you hate Tarik's writing so much, why are you reading it? If it bothers you, just ignore it. It makes you look a LOT less ignorant!

I really wanted to see the white shorts! I even e-mailed Ted and asked him about them, and he just kind of laughed it off. Oh well.
