Great. Games against the Flyers that don't count.

Ah, let's crush them anyway.

Just keep Semen away from the back of the net please!

And someone better give Lucic the message that it is a pre-season game.

Did anyone else score some good stuff at the gear sale this weekend?

(from last post)
Sombrero, I myself looked like a damn fool when I stopped my car to talk to a Sombrero Guy... he just looked at me like I had no face. After that, I remembered that you have a nice one, so I just left it at that.

Steve R, would have been cool to meet up with you. JSchon and I got to have a few beers at Rock Bottom - def good times.

It looks like there were others that attended the FunFest... wish we could have met up!

I am fine with the Spirit Squad - is it really going to matter with most of you? I mean, the point is there to go see hockey. A cute blonde in a tight shirt in a cold enviornment never hurt anyone.

I dont see how we dont go 7-0 with this cupcake schedule.

Pre-season championship, lock it up.

Posted by: Ben | July 14, 2008 2:44 PM | Report abuse

Sweet! So instead of my parents spending buckets of money for a hotel room, football tickets, etc for Parents Weekend, maybe I can get them to spend buckets of money on hockey tickets! What a great reason to exile myself from town during the third worst weekend to be at school. I'm all over the home Philly game. Go Caps!

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | July 14, 2008 2:45 PM | Report abuse

We wont go 7-0 because we will be playing guys like Bourque and Carlson. I doubt Ovechkin will play a game. As much as I would like for the Caps to go undefeated in pre-season... I just dont see it happening.

I'm seeing a visit to the Caps-Devils pre-season game in my future.

There is always training camp to grab a beer at. Lee and I are already talking about hitting at least one day of that. We'll take over a corner of the bar.

We should should play the Hershey guys for the preseason games. Who cares about preseason.

Posted by: Danny | July 14, 2008 2:59 PM | Report abuse

Danny, that is pretty much what happens. It's the same in all sports... who really plays in those games?

Posted by: 828 | July 14, 2008 3:01 PM | Report abuse

Steve R, I am in for that... just let me know when - I work right down the street.

Greg Wyshynski is a poor-man's Tarik El-Bashir.

Greg Wyshynski wants no part of Tarik El-Bashir.

Tarik El-Bashir would eat Greg Wyshynski alive.

What would your girl think of the Spirit Squad...

My guess is that she wouldn't care since she told me about the Semin's thighs story...

Posted by: JSchon | July 14, 2008 3:08 PM | Report abuse

Its cool to see the Caps preseason schedule, but more importantly, when is the Spirit Squad going to release its appearance calendar?

Detroit Free Press:

Remember this the next time you say you'd like to kiss the Stanley Cup. Red Wings forward Kris Draper revealed during the weekend that his diaperless baby, Kamryn, did a number on the Cup last month. A number two, to be exact. "A week after we won it, I had my newborn daughter in there, and she pooped in the Cup," Draper said. "That was something. We had a pretty good laugh. "I still drank out of it that night, so no worries."

Posted by: King Simeon | July 14, 2008 3:12 PM | Report abuse

Ovechkin played in at least 4 of the 7 pre season games last season.

Check the score sheets.

Preseason games tend to have better than half of the starters, with marginal AHL guys and prospects mixed in.

Posted by: Sombrero Guy | July 14, 2008 3:14 PM | Report abuse

WTF, Draper. WTF.

Posted by: Jordan | July 14, 2008 3:16 PM | Report abuse

@Villainaire - three times in 4 days. What is the deal with the Wyshynski vs Tarik that you're trying to start?

Posted by: Sombrero Guy | July 14, 2008 3:16 PM | Report abuse

She would be annoyed and prolly talk smack about them, but that's just the way it is. She wouldn't be focused on them because she would want to watch hockey.

She would probably hit me for looking at them.

But, in the end, it would be no big deal. You just have to understand that people on this blog have things to complain about... guess why there are always stories on the news - Favre's signing, TO's suicide attempt, Spear's 5 babies, and whatever else you want to include. People like to bi+ch.

Posted by: 828 | July 14, 2008 3:16 PM | Report abuse

Didn't Ovechkin get in a fight in a preseason game last year? Or was that the year before?

Posted by: nhcaps | July 14, 2008 3:59 PM | Report abuse

@Birdie - The final pre season games are basically tune ups for the regular season and generally have most of the regular players, but to be safe I would wait for the home opener. I had a great time at the Caps Flyers pre season game last season, but the crowd will be better for a regular season game.

I'm sure its more along the lines of he put the baby in and the baby did her business before they caught her. Two week olds tend to be less than forthcoming with when they need to use the bathroom.

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | July 14, 2008 4:34 PM | Report abuse

While Draper might be tough, don't you think he cleaned out the cup before drinking...?

Posted by: Steve R | July 14, 2008 4:34 PM | Report abuse

Somberero Guy: thanks, that's what I thought.

Steve R: we can, but my very nice account rep, because I don't have a full plan, said he would make sure I got opening night tickets when I gave him: "ohmigod, we're so excited for this year because its our 5th anniversery and rather than spend it in Paris, we want to spend it at the caps game!" sorta because I want to see the banner go up and everything (and secretly hoping that Bondra's number will be retired that ngiht, too!). Anyways, long story short, I think we could probably do both, but its that whole celebrate-on-time vs. wait-but-celebrate-in-style thing.

And i do recall OV getting a butt whopping I gotta be honest, Richard kicked his @$$

You can find the fight on youtube. Richards did swing several rights at Ovechkin, but Ovechkin managed to move away at those, he bent down to the right to avoid the hooks, almost to the ice, and Richards fist maybe barely touched Ovie. Then when Richards stopped swinging Ovie got up and punched him straight in the face. I don't know why Richards stopped, maybe at first he didn't realize it was Ovechkin.

I think a bunch of people meeting up at training camp is a great idea. But we need some identifying clothing of some sort. Like Kolzig jerseys turned inside out or caps hats worn backwards...something. Then we could come up with a certain secret catchphrase like 'JJ is a douche bag' or something to confirm blog poster loyalty. Rock Bottom could be a lot of fun with about 20 caps fans there together in late August/early September. Thoughts?

As a caps fan I can freely admit when one of our guys gets a whooping. If it were the other way around, we'd be saying OV is a great fighter.

More than a fair share of richards punches landed. He stopped..thankfully... because OV was on the ground.

If you look at some of the reaction of both guys afterward, you could see them laughing about it. OV even admitted he got it handed to him.

You said: "Could you show me in The Constitution where it says people have the right to not be offended. Frankly,I'm offended by your boring rants that are longer than Tarik's articles."

Now look here, bub, I'm not your Civics teacher. Everything you should know about the Constitution you should've learned in the 10th grade. OK, so maybe you're only in the 9th grade! Sorry, bub, I understand.

Anyway, as you might expect, I carry a copy of the Constitution in my briefcase and never have it far from my person. I have read it of course cover to cover, and it's really not much longer than your standard sports article in the Post. It's a helluva lot more important though.

The Constitution, as matter of fact, doesn't list all the places where people have the right "not to be offended." This would constitute a double negative and I'm not your English Composition teacher either but if I were I could explain the pitfalls and evils of the double negative.

You should learn this (God can only hope) when you reach the 11th grade.

Chief Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes best explained the parameters of the Constitution when he said, "The right of free speech doesn't give a man the right to yell "Fire!" in a crowded movie hall."

I therefore have the right to do anything I want as long as it doesn't trample your right to do whatever you want. I have the right to free speech. I may not for sure commit either slander or libel; and I haven't, since I never made direct claims about you. Insinuations, bub, don't count.

Anyway, to make a long story short, any indirect offense you might take gives you the full right to ignore what I say. You can be "offended" in your words all day long by my boring rants. A court though would dismiss your claim that you are "offended" (as my rant was not directed toward you) and merely accept your claim that you were "bored by the rants." A judge would advise that if you understand that my rants cause you such boredom, you have the full right under the Constitution to simply ignore the rants; to wit, I may not compel you to read what I have written even right here. But you already read it, didn't you? So much for your right to ignore me. (It's really easy to trick some people.)

I might suggest, sir, respectfully of course, that you actually read the Consitution. It was pretty much written by James Madision, Sec of State, VP and President of the United States of America. Much of what he wrote was heavily influenced by John Adams, who if I recall was in Paris with Benjamin Franklin at the time. No, I wasn't there; I'm not quite that old.

As much as I love hockey, I love being a citizen of the USA even more. That's just how it is. You asked me a question and I responded. Not in half-assed fashion like most people do but in detail. I believe in response I have used the appropriate amount of electrons. If you don't like it, that's your right too. That's how it works here, bub.

See you in the voting booth come fall.

No real issue with Semin's thighs... just at this event - he was looking real Euro... the tightest pants I had ever seen on anyone. But, my gf noticed how huge his thighs were... you could see every muscle through his grey spandex, err jeans?

I don't care how he dresses - Ovechkin is the same way... that's the Semin thigh story... was it worth the wait?

Mo will get the remaining amount left over to max out the cap. I think it's under 2 mil.

Posted by: 828 | July 14, 2008 10:23 PM | Report abuse

No, Chief was not in the Constitution. I believe you know that. I'm not sure "Chief" is even real. It's hard to tell who's really real, here. I believe the women are real. You can tell a person is real when they get angry and when they truly express themselves. Sometimes when you have a veneer like with the internet you have to poke your finger until you hit people in the eye so you know what is real and what might not be.

I seriously doubt that you will do what you say - move to France. I seriously doubt you have ever been to France. People these days don't move places unless they've been there first, unless they are hockey players and are being paid millions of dollars.

The "Chief" here is bogus and absurd. It just sounds like a person trying to intimidate.

Me? That is not me, being like Chief. A true person uses no aliases. You explain what you believe and what you represent. Perhaps at times I assume too much from people. I won't quit trying though.

I myself would never move to France nor for that matter would ever move from America.

Have a feeling that the Fed signing may be an indication of what Mo's amount may be. Depends on what Mo goes into arbitration wanting, and what the Caps are willing to offer. It will probably end up being some amount in-between.

The Feds deal may indicate that there is enough $$ left under the cap regardless what Mo's arbitration brings.

Morrisonn is going to get over $2M a season if it goes to arbitration. The money that has been throw around to blueliners is the cause. I cant say I blame Mo for holding out if we were offering him $1.5M or less when his peers are getting $2.5M.

But, Mo needs to be careful with holding a grudge, we have really talented blueliners in the system and a crap load of money next season to re-sign our FA, the ones we want, and enough money to target other FA blueliners. Would I rather have MO @ $2.5M or Komisarek @ $4.0? Sorry Mo...

If you want to be a Capital sign a 2 year $3.25M contract with us now... No arbitration...

Regarding Mo:
I don't think we have $2.5 left to give him, do we? I thought that we had less than $2 before we hit the salary cap, no? My guess is that it might not go to arbitration ... he saw Brooks settle before arbitration and he knows how much money the Caps have left to spend (and how much they don't have to spend). Given that, they may come to terms before it gets ugly.

I did not see Bengt's kid at the scrimmage - I thought Gabby's kid was supposed to be there, too, but did not see him. Does anyone know the scoop with that?

Moderator?!? I stir up too much trouble for that!! ;-)

Posted by: Boo! | July 15, 2008 7:46 AM | Report abuse

@ Boo

Gabby's kid was hurt earlier in the week. Torn MCL or something like that. He is out for a while.

Posted by: Mark | July 15, 2008 7:51 AM | Report abuse

We dont have enough money to keep the roster intact and have his arbitration salary be over $2M. However, the arbiter doesnt care about what are finances are, he is only their to figure what is market value for MO. If he signs for more than we have to spend, then we have to make a roster move, like dump Erskine or Gordon.

Gustafson has an ailing but getting better back and Bruce's kid was hurt the first day with an apparent knee injury, not sure if it was a torn MCL, but thats what I heard.

I hope I helped...
