Caps end losing streak against Senators, 3-2

By Lindsay Applebaum

The Capitals scored three goals in the second period after falling behind 2-0 to finally snap an eight-game skid, beating the Ottawa Senators, 3-2, at Scotiabank Place.

Mathieu Perreault scored twice and Eric Fehr added a goal and an assist to help Washington collect its first victory since Dec. 1.

Coach Bruce Boudreau, who is no doubt breathing a sigh of relief tonight, chest-bumped his assistants in celebration as the Caps left the ice.

Game summary: Capitals 3, Senators 2

More to come soon.

YAY! The Caps are SOOOOOOO good! BB is the best coach and we will win the SC!

Lol..just kidding joek, cstanton, and all you others.

Man...I need a zanex after that game! Nice to c Nuevy step up his game after we gave him a lead to protect. Fehr looked great, and it is time to demote Backie until he finds his game...he just has looked terrible for the past month.

GO CAPS!!! Now win AND play well!

can't be upset because they won - so you pick on the coverage?

Damn where is Jonathan? I think he works Sunday nights or something. Well it's time for me to go to bed so I'll fill the void until he can log on and do it properly.

Matty P and Fehr showed us the way. WE gotta dig deep and find more of where that came from. Set your targets to the net the offensive zone and pitch a tent and get a good camp fire burning. Also, take it easy on the penalties guys, especially in the last 10 minutes of the game. BB, take these guys out for a Moose steak up there in the great white North.

Jersey is next, let's start a new steak in the win column.

It's been a TWO POINT NIGHT!!!

Ice breakers - goal shakers (man that was fun)

In a related story, Bruce Boudreau's assistants are now dead after being chest-bumped.

Man, if I were to be chest-bumped by someone, could it be Kim Kardashian and not BB? He-he.

I have saved a half-glass of that non-vintage Frenchy white wine, Les Martinieres. I will mix it in with whatever red for Tuesday vs the Devils. I hope this works to keep the "spell" going.

Whether or not Caps give "full effort" for each game you can all rest assured that tominsocal1 will give "full effort" which means a recycle bin full of empties.

You should hear the crackle of glass when the Waste Management truck dumps my recycle bin. Sometimes it makes so much noise it registers on the Richter Scale.

Well, Jonathan6 ain't here, so it's been:

A GOAL-SHAKIN', LOSING-STREAK BREAKIN', HEART-ATTACK MAKIN', SLUMP-QUAKIN' TWO-POINT NIGHT!!!

Hmmm. First it was two glasses of leftover white from last night in the first period. Obviously that DIDN'T work. Then the Frenchy white for periods 2 and 3 and I want to save the last of that bottle for Tue. Guess I need to hit up some shots of the 8-yr old Rum.

Hot dang! The best thing about drinking is there's always a good reason to do it!

Not happy unless they're pissed off... Truly American.

Nice to see the boys eek out a win. We need lots of them now to keep pace in the East. Maybe, just maybe, if we can keep playing like this, BB will keep his job. Not sure how I feel about that but I'll let you know this April/May/June - if his tenure goes that long... Just make the playoffs and play the RIGHT way from here on...

Tom, you're awesome. I knew there was something I liked about you. Always a reason to drink...

Posted by: sca187 | December 19, 2010 10:43 PM | Report abuse

The win feels good. Nice to see the team huddle up on the ice with so much excitement after the game.

Still, we've got issues....what did GMGM ever see in Hannan..send him back to CO..what a waste of a d-man he is on the ice...would much rather still have Flash around..

Devils are up next on Tuesday - we owe them big since our 5-0 debacle in NJ...then on Thursday, BB better dust off DJ and put him in the line-up for a couple dances with Talbot....a win over the Penguins on Thursday would help us start to forget how bad December has been

kudos to whoever posted the Caps video on YouTube - "Washington Capitals It's Time"...great video and music....

Good job ending the streak... it was as tight as it gets vs. a lowly team. Lets see them follow up with another victory vs. another lowly team, before facing some better opposition.

Oh and OVI still can't buy a goal. Will he even get 30 this season? Wow.

Posted by: BigGameSid | December 19, 2010 10:52 PM | Report abuse

WOW! Just popped the top on a Ron Bacardi 8-yr rum. Magnifique! Anyone else ever try this stuff? I had a bottle about 4 yrs ago. Magnifique! Aroma = superb! Color = a slightly reddish gold! Taste = DRINK NEAT AND DO NOT MIX!

OK, I'm beginning to see something here...Ron Bacardi EIGHT (as in the number "8") year old anejo...8...anything significant to us Caps fane with the number 8?

So f the red wine Tuesday night. I will toss shots of this Bacardi 8-yr in the barrel rum that was made by theGods Themselves and we will watch as Alex nets not one but two goals.

Caps 6, Devils 2.

As it is written, so it shall be.

signed, nostrathomas.

btw, one even strength and one pp and we will also predict a goal for Mike Green to come out of his slumber! Brooks Laich, step up to the scoresheet! Matt Hendricks, you too! The other one, for the love of God, what's that, Hannan?!

Pour yourself a shot o' this rum boys and girls the most beautiful color you've ever seen.

Katie: Nice work! Pour a shot on me! Girls should drink too!

I'M HERE I'M HERE - SORRY FOR BEING LATE - WAS CELEBRATING -YOU KNOW HAHA :)

POSTGAME THOUGHTS:
@tominsocal1 LOLOLOLOLOL - nice work on the french wine tonight. You found the magic and the losing streak ended.

Hope you see this LloydChristmas :)

It's easy to say this now but even when Ottawa went up 2-0 I sat there feeling like these guys aren't going to do it again. Not after the way they fought back last night. What a way to respond in the second period and down the stretch. It didn't come easy.

Yes I've dogged Fehr and Laich and I'm not big fans of them but big big big props for their efforts tonight. If only they can get more consistent like that. Maybe this is a start - i don't know. Let's hope so.

GOALTENDING: Agree or disagree all you want but it is not the problem during this losing streak. Never has been. All this talk about a veteran netminder is crap. It's December. Give it another month or two to see where it's at to see if we do need a veteran or not. They've been fighting in there and Neuvy did a solid job the rest of the way tonight. How about giving him some props??

The question remains is that during this losing streak and on a cold Sunday night in Ottawa - did this team turn the corner and will it begin to head in the direction of something special. Alot of hockey left to go but we shall see.

Have a safe flight home guys. Way to end the streak.

It's been a - to quote tominsocal1 - A GOAL-SHAKIN', LOSING-STREAK BREAKIN', HEART-ATTACK MAKIN', SLUMP-QUAKIN' TWO-POINT NIGHT!!!

Obviously joek443 you are weak on your Bible studies.

Isaiah 2:00 - The meek shall relinquish the crease.

John the Baptist: You can't baptize people in ice.

Doubting Thomas: The first time Dave Steckel makes a good defensive play, I will believe he can do it.

The Most Interesting Man in the World: Stay thirsty, my friends.

Gotta be honest, seeing the team enjoy the victory was a very good feeling.

great timing - should make the deadline for wednesday night's 24/7 material. HBO couldn't have scripted it better themselves.

we got a painful close up of some underlying problems these past eight games. but for now, for tonight at least, good job - let's enjoy for a moment.

Jonathan6: Man, so nice to see your post after a TWO-POINT NIGHT!!!

I feel like the weight of the Earth, an Atlas-sized weight, has been lifted from my shoulders! Hallelujah!!!

Now, just a suggestion, but all of you should consider some French white for the next road game. Also, if you are considering some of the 8-yr old Bacardi, I found a rebate form at Total Wine buy 5 bottles of Bacardi get $45 back. So even if you splurge on the 8-yr rum you can add four bottles of the cheaper stuff and it hardly costs anything.

My rebate form btw is "in the mail."

$45. Nothing to sneeze at.

Jesus, I'm so fkn excited I can't go downstairs and eat dinner. mrstominsocal1 made a turkey today since it was kinda cold out 60 degrees and rainy all day and good time to use the oven at my suggestion. I never ate cuz I was just too d@mned worked up over this game. Now I can eat, turkey and mashed taters and probably some vegetable. After 1 1/2 bottles wine and that shot o' rum and the win on the road I could eat the whole d@mned turkey!!!

@tominsocal1 - as a bartender I've sampled some French white before - I'm not a wine guru but I'm always open to exploring new wines. Great stuff. Thanks for sharing.

Glad to hear you're feeling better. It felt great to see this team finally celebrate winning again. Now let's start a new streak - this one involving wins :)

@tominsocal1

So, after the long dark days of our losing streak, your prediction of Fehr ascending to the top line has finally happened. He was initially going to be a healthy scratch yesterday but got a reprieve from the executioner when Matty P was ill yesterday. And ended up doing well yesterday although no goals and ended up on the top line by the end of the day and remained there today.

Posted by: CapsFan75 | December 19, 2010 11:55 PM | Report abuse

And now for Sasha to return to the lineup on Tuesday.

Posted by: CapsFan75 | December 20, 2010 12:04 AM | Report abuse

CapsFan75: Just remember that the executioner wears a DARK, HOODED ROBE!

And that the executioner goes by the moniker of PhilR!!!

We would also be wise to recall those immortals words, "The Lord moves in mysterious ways."

Could be that MP's illness got both he and Fehr, in the words of one prognosticator, "off the schnide?"

And, to actually be serious for a brief tiny second, the most important words of all time, words which I am guilty myself of violating:

"Judge not, lest ye be judged."

Tonight I have judged Steckel and Sloan. All of us have judged the Caps players: "They aren't working hard enough." Is it that we are all working so hard and so perfect at our jobs that we may judge others?

OK, sorry, off the soap box.
