Caps Extend Fleischmann

Sorry for the late posting today. But getting out of Dulles (and then landing in Atlanta) proved to be an adventure.

Anyway, I have some news to share: the Caps have re-signed left wing Tomas Fleischmann to a two-year extension. The 23-year-old will earn $725,000 in each of those seasons, which represents a healthy raise over the $495,000 he's due to earn this year.

With six goals and 15 assists in 53 games, Fleischmann's production is certainly low for a top-six forward. But the organization -- Coach Bruce Boudreau in particular -- believes that he's on the verge of a breakthrough based on his play the past month (eight points in 13 games).

I missed the morning skate, but I hear that defenseman Steve Eminger and winger Quintin Laing are expected to be the scratches tonight against the Thrashers.

I hope to post a lineup and some other tidbits before the game.
