Caps on Versus

Versus just announced its schedule for the upcoming season, and the Caps will be featured seven times.

Oct. 1 at Boston
Oct. 6 at Philly
Oct. 27 Philly
Nov. 17 at NYR
Mar. 8 Dallas
Apr. 5 Boston
Apr. 6 at Pittsburgh

Because I know many of you are wondering which teams will be featured most, here's a breakdown from the Versus release:

"VERSUS' 2009/10 regular season schedule highlights some of the most exciting games of the season with the Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins all making a season-high eight appearances on the network. The Washington Capitals, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres and Minnesota Wild will each appear seven times this season."

Who cares about versus. Their coverage is terrible. CSN all the way!!!

I hope we have 0 games on NBC.

I've got an NHL package now, so it's no longer very bad news to see that games will be on Versus, but I'd just as soon watch the homers cover the game on Comcast.

It has been nice to watch the replays of the playoffs on Versus. Last night was the double hat trick game 2 -- What a game, and aside from his hole-in-the-glove goal Varly was on fire. It's always great to see the replays after watching the game live. The bad news is games 3, 4, and 5 play the next three nights.

according to the caps website the game on 11/28 isnt on Versus. So thats where the error is.

What's more important is if any games are subject to the dreaded "exclusivity blackout".

Four very tough away games. Let the Brian Engblom bashing of the Caps begin...man I hate that guy!

We can orchestrate a "red and white out" for the first home game on versus vs Philly.

Even Seat Numbers wear Red...Odd's Wear White..

That place would look nuts on TV...

Same old story...maybe they will turn the camera lights on for the broadcasts this year?

Posted by: lylewimbledon | August 19, 2009 3:27 PM | Report abuse

The only two games I missed last year were on Versus. I get the Center Ice package, CSN, the hockey channel, and every other subscription I am aware of to get all the Caps games on TV, and Versus was the only channel to show something else instead of the Caps. And I notice most of these games are on a Tuesday, which last year was the dreaded blackout day in the USA--only Versus could show an NHL game in America and unless they chose the Caps we were screwed. Thank God for the internet and Canada--I was able to watch on the computer thanks to our friends to the north.

4 - St. Louis, San Jose
3 - Colorado

1 - Calgary, Florida, Los Angeles, Nashville, Phoenix
0 - Anaheim, Atlanta, Carolina, Edmonton, Ottawa, Vancouver

Tarik is in the car but wanted me to pass along his apologies for posting the wrong date. He couldn't read his own handwriting. It happens!

Everyone needs to go over to Japers and read Gabby's except from his book. Sobering to say the least.

In case you missed it earlier today, I've made an ESPN fantasy hockey league for the blog here. It's free, and I'm trying to get 10 teams. Email me at thiazzi@gmail.com for an invite!

agreed, NBC commentaters suck.

Posted by: whiteltng | August 19, 2009 3:44 PM | Report abuse

I'm sure the Pens will be the "game of the week" every Sunday on Nothing But Crosby (NBC). NBC commentors are terrible. Pierre McGuire is a giant tool and Mike Milbury doesn't know jack, that's why the Isles have stunk for a decade now.

I'm just so glad that the season is starting soon and we've got Smokin' Al Koken and Joe B. I'd listen to these guys read the phonebook. Sensational!

according to the versus schedule from tarik's link - the caps do not have any conflicts with other games - all 7 of the caps versus games should air

Yeah I'm less concerned with which Caps games will be on Versus than I am with which Caps games will be blacked out because they start at the same time as a Versus game.

Stupid contract, stupid channel, stupid commissioner.

Posted by: patrone | August 19, 2009 4:06 PM | Report abuse

Stupid Pierre Macguire. My apologies but I'll have to take the Versus games than nothing at all since I live in LA. My last visit, my cousin and I watched Game 2 live against the Rangers and then Game 3 on ComCast. Compared to NBC's coverage and Versus' coverage of other games, I enjoyed ComCast the best.

Versus - better than nothing for me.

Looks like it's time for me to re-order Center Ice.

The Rangers and Philly get more games than we do? The disrespect continues.

Just went to Japers as someone suggested--wow. Gabby certainly had a sobering experience.

Pens, Rags, Philthy...all getting more games on their broke-ass "network" than the Caps?!?!?

Shocker.

Posted by: R617 | August 19, 2009 7:49 PM | Report abuse

I can't stand Chokin Al Koken. He is a smug pompous ass.

Posted by: nimrodrsp | August 19, 2009 8:14 PM | Report abuse

Hating on McGuire? Really?
How about that idiot ex-Pens coach whose name I won't mention. He is on a national network and all he can do is talk Pens, Pens, Pens....he is the worst! PERIOD!
The Caps announcers are good. Joe Ben is very good, Laughlin OK, and Koken is a clown. It averages out to good.

atleast its only 8 games, I hate VS. because in my area I don't get it. My area being my college town, and also being a student I am not paying for digital cable or the nhl package :(

It was very upsetting to have all the playoff games on VS.

Posted by: breaklance | August 20, 2009 11:31 AM | Report abuse

I care about Versus, a lot. For me as an out of town Caps fans its the only way to get games in HD (besides the few games on NBC @ the end of the year). I subscribe to the Center Ice package on comcast and the picture quality is absolute sh!t
