Caps Recall Lepisto, Fehr
Defenseman Sami Lepisto and right wing Eric Fehr have been recalled from Hershey and were on the ice for practice this morning. Injured defenseman Jeff Schultz, however, was not.
Coach Bruce Boudreau said he doesn't expect Schultz (strained left knee) to play this weekend and that he also has not decided yet whether he's going to use Lepisto or Fehr in Carolina. The players were called up, he said, as insurance because the a couple of guys (he didn't say which ones) are "under the weather". And with a 5 p.m. faceoff in Raleigh on Saturday and a 3 p.m. puck-drop on Sunday vs. New Jersey, he wanted to make sure they had some backup.
Olie Kolzig called tomorrow's game the "biggest game of the year." And I agree with him 100 percent.
With last night's 5-3 victory over Atlanta, Carolina has opened a 67-63 lead in the Southeast Division. The Caps, however, have played three fewer games. But, as Kolzig said, that doesn't make the situation any less desperate for a team that is 2-1-2 in its last five after an 8-4-0 stretch.
"If we can get it back to two points with three games in hand," Kolzig said. "That's a lot better than six back with three in hand. Everybody understands the magnitude of the game. We have to be ready."
The lines, by the way, remained the same.
