I'm just happy that our chances of facing Carolina in the first round of the playoffs are very slim. In all liklihood, we'd win, but it would go 6 or 7 with plenty of heartburn.

I think we are fine...mainly because Erskine and Sloan will NOT be in the lineup.

Was encouraged to see Varley finally had a decent game...

I'm liking Carlson more and more every game...I think he and Morrison have really settled in and work well together.

I'm more concerned about Poti.

I am looking for someone to split Playoff tickets for section 114. I found a guy that wants to sell his for all the playoff games at 200.00 a seat, but I don't have the 6000.00 to put out. I have half and need a partner to help.Email me at tprpolen@yahoo.com. Thanks Craig

I cant believe after the ink is not even dry on the head shot rule. OV IV the Russian Goon in the quest to break Prongers suspension record would give the goaltender a head shot!!!!

Skill he has lots respect to other players he has ZERO!

Legace did not have his postion established, nor was he in the paint. He went down like he was hit by a sniper. I thought he took the slapshot from the point to the mask. SC1907, you $uck.

1907 in no way was what happened last night even close to a head shot. Even the Carolina announcers didn't think it should have even been called. They thought the interference Backstrom did just seconds earlier was what should have been called.

Erskine had a very nice steal and assist on the Carlson goal. Or didn't you notice? For a tough guy "slug", not tooo freakin bad at all.

I'm pretty sure erskine played decent last night

Am I the only one here that thinks most Pens fans on this board, StanleyCup1907 included, are reminiscent of the Fox News analysts who never let the facts get in the way of their ideological positions. It would be so refreshing for them to discuss ANYTHING on it's actual merits versus starting from a position of "Ovechkin evil, so ..."

I agree with Fro_: Yawn

There's nothing new about this. Other newspaper websites in this country (the Albuquerque Journal, for one) also require you to pay to access their online content.

No politcal views please, including taking opportunities to take jabs at a news channel that has chosen not to be liberal. Half truths are evident regardless of what network is watched.

Tell me please oh KNOWABLE CAPS LEMONS would any player have the need to take out a goaltender with a jumping head shot from behind....the only person restricted on answering this is Avery!

If needed Marc-Andre is next :-) And he'll squeeze lemons into your Cup too...

Posted by: CodePoetry | March 26, 2010 11:24 AM | Report abuse

Wow, a jumping head shot. I must have been watching a completely different game.

Man,...the consistent, collective illiteracy of the Pittsburgh trolls is staggering...at least they are consistent...trolling with no life outside of boards...

There's no penalty I welcome more than goalie interference. Not saying I like Caps to get penalties- but with a gun to my head and having to pick one to commit, that's the one.

Ovi's a bum. Trade him.
Trade Green for missing his penalty shot.

My father always said when you reply to an idiot's idiotic muttering, you lose some brain cells.
Guys, think of your brain cells before indulging this idiot with your replies.

he also did a great job screening his own goalie on the first goal... either get down and really try to block the shots or get the heck outta the way!!!

The simple truth is that the Caps made the moves in the offseason and at the deadline to match up better with Pittsburgh while the Penguins didn't improve themselves signficantly over last season when the difference between the teams was for the most part razor thin.

Kunitz and Guerin did it for Pitt last year in getting them over the top.

This year I think Knuble, Fehr, Chimera and the depth provided in the deals for Belanger and Corvo will do the same for Washington.

Posted by: leopard09 | March 26, 2010 12:36 PM | Report abuse

@leopard09 - I'm thinking right now, the move that has helped the most is Chimera. Would still like to see Flash centering the line for Semin, eventually. But having #18 around (can't miss the irony of the relation to #9) had picked BMo's game up.

couple other game notes:

1) These alternate unis of Carolina MUCH better than their normal ones. They should stick to these

2) Varlomov's best game since the injury, imho. He had no chance on goal #2. I thought pretty solid outing for him.

erskine played well and should be in top-6 rotation, PERIOD!!! first goal wasn't tipped, varly should've stopped it....i can't understand the obsession soo many have here w/varly, shultz, carlson, etc....the reality is, coach BB plays favorites.....next game, poti/green/or corvo should be scratched and erskine in the lineup.....those who say he's too slow obviously don't watch enough hockey (and i'm talking about other teams, not just the caps)

Posted by: vermontcaps | March 26, 2010 1:51 PM | Report abuse

Never want to lose, but a lot of positives including Varly playing his best game since returning from injury. It looks like Carlsson has solidified himself as one our top 6 defenseman along with Morrisson. I think Erskine is the odd man out unless one of the other defenseman get hurt or BB doesn't have the confidence in Carlsson.

Caps had a number of chances to win it in regulation including the last second shot by Poti, but they could close the deal. It seems that every time we go to a shootout that the other team has the edge (except Pittsburgh). This won't be a problem when we get in the playoffs where everthing is decided in OT.

he was released by the Isles... I'm sure he's grateful he still has a job

one game every other week is plenty for him till the playoffs start.. then he should and will be sitting out unless one of the top 6 gets hurt
