thanks Tarik, i would assume its gonna be less than a million per year... would have preferred a longer term deal, but its understandable for both sides to be cautious.

This is great news.

Wow! For less money than I thought. Good.

Jurcina needs to toughen up and not let opposing players get away with cheap shots

It is great news.

It'll be interesting to see who he plays with. I've seen a lot of posts with people separating Jurcina and Morrison, but I think they made a pretty effective combo last year.

If Jucina can start getting more of those bombs from the point on net $850,000 will be a ridiculously good bargain.

Great news and good job by GMGM.

This move will probably be as close to unanimous approval that the organization will ever get for a move.

Posted by: FS | July 27, 2007 10:03 PM | Report abuse

Absolutely a positive move; this pleased me as much as Clarkie signing-on for 3 more years beyond this one!! I think Jurcina is going to be a real monster for us this year.

If he plays half as good as he did after we obtained him, he'll be worth that kind of money. If he plays to the same level, he's a steal.

Nice job GMGM, not just on Jurcina, but also Nylander, Kozlov, and Poti!

Good stuff

Yeah, good news there, good price for Jurcina too, he was just underutilized in the Bruins organization, so we stole him from them in the beginning. On a side note, seriously, please, Neuvirth needs to play here in hershey, not Machesney. Machesney has been a dissapointment in my eyes, both in the AHL and the ECHL, and Neuvirth just seems like he'll do better...

I agree with Dan, get Neuvirth to Hershey to back up Cassivi. The kid is ready to develop at the next level and start earning his way to back up Kolzig. I love that Jurcina is signed for two more years. Maybe the Caps have enough developing talent on the blueline to compete. I still wonder if signing another veteran blueliner to solidify a very young blueline may prove beneficial. Some stability and experience would help also.

Good times for all involved. Signing him was a fantastic move, and for this money, it's very hard to complain.

Glad this got done before arbitration. I think we will be O.K. at defense even without another signing. I'm for letting our huge group of prospects develop unless we can get another "steal."

Call me crazy, but I think this was one of the best moves of last season when they grabbed him from Boston. Good to see that he will be in a Caps uniform for a while. I could see him being one of our better d-men.

Now, cue Puck Guru to tell us all what a wasted roster spot Jurcina is because he's a European pansy...

Good signing. Good deal for all involved.

Little early to take a pot shot at another poster who has yet to post, eh, Bill :)?

Good signing, though I wonder about keeping him paired with Mo, despite how well they seem to work together. IMHO Mo should be paired with an O-minded D since he's responsible enough to cover their derrieres when they take chances. Then again, if a tandem really works, why break it?

When does training camp start again?

I like it. Jurcina's strong, physical, and disciplined. The idea of 'letting this batch ripen unless GMGM can steal something' sounds good to me.
But GMGM must have been busted for this summer's several pilferings by now.

I'm very happy we got this deal done before arbitration. Good work by GM. Now we've got no more hearings to worry about I bet we bring in a new name or even better resign Ovechkin and/or Semin. good offseason so far, now all they have to do to fill the seats at Verizon is bring back Bondra. I know he's a bit of a has-bin but he's got a really strong fan base and one-timer and we could use both. let's let Mr. Capital retire as a Capital

Tarik, there is a blog on the Caps message board (not sure of the validity) which talks of Semin being injured and needing surgery. The URL validation story in the blog was in Russian. If this is true, it's big news. I'm hoping it isn't; you're in a good position to check it out.
Thanks,

I hope Jurcina works out, but I'm not certain he'll be a top 4 defenseman for the Caps next year. Things looked great initially, but we started to see the real Jurcina later in the season.

I also didn't vote for the Caps as the best new uniforms. Sorry.

Nice signing, but doesn't solve
the real issue.

He takes TOO many shifts/nights
off to be a top D-man, but maybe
he'll come back and take us all by
storm!
