Clark Out, Semin in, Laing Recalled
Just arrived at RBC Center for the morning skate after a smooth four hour drive from NoVa.
Because of the injuries to Chris Clark (groin) and Boyd Gordon (undisclosed), the Caps have recalled winger Quintin Laing from Hershey for some fill-in duty. The 28-year-old has three NHL games on his resume.
It also looks like Semin will play despite his nagging ankle injury.
Here's what the forward lines look like:
The 'D' pairings remain the same:
Looks like Kolzig will start (I'll confirm this later).
Update: I spoke to Laing after the morning skate. And, of course, he was very excited to be back in the bigs. He played three games for Chicago in 2003-04 and had begun to wonder if he would ever get "the call" again.
"They us told in practice that two [Caps] had gotten hurt ...and to keep your cell phones on," Laing said. "When I got the call, I looked at my phone and it was [the Bears] GM. I said, 'Please let this be it.'"
"My wife was screaming and I was in shock. It was a pretty cool moment."
Cool moment, for sure.
Boudreau said Laing was recalled because his game resembles Gordon's defense-first approach. Only thing is Laing doesn't do faceoffs. So it looks like that job is going to belong to Steckel on the PK and when that line is on the ice.
