Clark's Charitable Endeavor

I meant to blog about this a couple of weeks ago, but I got sidetracked and forgot. So my apologies if you've already heard about it.

Anyway, Chris Clark and his wife, Kim, are hoping to raise enough money to build a new playground in their summer hometown of Henderson, N.Y. But they need your support.

Here are the details from the Caps' Web site:

The centerpiece of the Clarks' fundraising efforts is a raffle in which the winner will enjoy a one-of-a-kind Capitals experience at a 2008-09 home game. The package includes a two-night stay at the Westin Arlington Gateway Hotel and two tickets to the winner's choice of three games: Nov. 8 against the N.Y. Rangers, Jan. 3 against the N.Y. Rangers or Jan. 17 against Boston. After the game the winner and their guest will be escorted to Verizon Center's event level to meet Chris and get autographs from the Capitals' captain and his teammates.

Raffle tickets are $20 and can be purchased on online at The deadline is Oct. 15 and the winning ticket will be drawn Oct. 19.

For the die hards. Live wire on thr flyers/devils game on right now. Go to the Flyers web site for live wire.

@ Leeguru (from previous thread)
I been a casual fan since I was a kid, but definitely "caught the fever" by going to a game at the beginning of last season, even though they lost. Hockey's in my blood, but it took going to my first NHL (Caps) game to really get me hooked.

Clark is a great guy and I'm glad to hear he supports such great causes.

She drinks beer and likes hockey and is in college! Why doesn't this chick have a boyfriend?

Posted by: Leeguru | September 22, 2008 8:38 PM | Report abuse

what are the chances of the caps having the same "live wire" this wed./ and or thursday?? Pretty cool watching the flyers game.

I would settle for two outa three from a gal!

Anyone go to the Caps video shoot tonight?

Posted by: Boo! | September 22, 2008 10:05 PM | Report abuse

I was there - not sure I have much of a voice left. :)

Posted by: keef | September 22, 2008 10:16 PM | Report abuse

You're kidding?!? We could have been right next to each other!! :-D Was that a riot or what? Jose and the Pussycats were too funny! ;-) I was kind of surprised that all of the guys were not there - I guess they were going for the big ticket guys. Anyway, I will be curioust to see the final cut.

Posted by: Boo! | September 22, 2008 10:18 PM | Report abuse

BTW, sports fans, I guess I've heard the Caps' opening song, but I have no idea what it's called or who sings it! :-X All I can tell you is to be prepared for HEY, HEY, HEY, HEY!

This is a hot topic now at the hot interracial dating club [___""___] which is a good place for 18+ singles from each race to meet cute girls with big boobs online. This is the only site where sexy black and white girls like discussing interracial relationship.

Posted by: will | September 22, 2008 10:24 PM | Report abuse

Yeah, it wasn't surprising seeing the "Young Guns" take center stage. I was glad that they welcomed Jose into the fold though - he seemed like an incredibly nice guy.

Any idea why Clark split?

I was the guy in the Juice shirt btw.

Posted by: keef | September 22, 2008 10:24 PM | Report abuse

The guy in the Juice shirt ... I think I saw one Juice sweater, but that was it. Was that you or were you wearing a t-shirt? Regardless, I don't remember the person who was attached to it ... how sad is that?

I don't know about Clark, but I was happy to see him there! I hope he has a full, healthy season. I agree about Jose - he seems to fit in well. He and Laich were cracking me up (I was surprised that Green didn't stay for the jam session). Anyway, it was pretty cool to see them all getting into it (although Semin needs a bass lesson, Backs looks to sweet and innocent to be in a band, and Ovie reminded me of Something About Mary). So do you think that that will play at the home opener only or all season?

Posted by: Boo! | September 22, 2008 10:34 PM | Report abuse

Oops - typo! It's been a long day ...

Posted by: Boo! | September 22, 2008 10:45 PM | Report abuse

Yep, it was the Juice sweater. Not many of 'em around. ;)

With the time/expense put into it, I have a feeling it'll be the game opener for the entire season.

I'm sure we'll be looking back on it in 10 years, smacking our foreheads, asking "What were they thinking?!?"

Nicky's hilarious in these situations - he's always looking at Ovie to see what he's doing for an idea of what he himself should be doing. Yeah, I was surprised Green didn't stick around either. Out of all of them, he looked like the least thrilled to be there (Brash aside).

I'm wracking my brain trying to think what song that is. I've gotten Simple Minds' Breakfast Club Song, an Alice Cooper song, and something by The Aquabats.

A lot of vids from the shoot going up on YouTube from this member:

I can't hear the music for all the screaming around the mic. If this is the song , then it's Phil Collins.

Posted by: Greg S. | September 22, 2008 11:46 PM | Report abuse

Never mind. It's not that.

Posted by: Greg S. | September 22, 2008 11:50 PM | Report abuse

That was last year's. Its a NonPoint cover of the Phil Collins song. Its on the soundtrack to the Miami Vice movie.

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | September 22, 2008 11:53 PM | Report abuse

Who is that playing what looks suspiciously like a ukulele?

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | September 23, 2008 12:04 AM | Report abuse

Far left? More like a mandolin if that's the's Semin.

Posted by: keef | September 23, 2008 12:07 AM | Report abuse

Speaking of Semin, he got a wedgie from Ovie when they were taking some group shots outside of the theater.

Posted by: keef | September 23, 2008 12:13 AM | Report abuse

Yeah, that's who I was looking at. I saw a clearer video from the same guy. Good stuff. Glad Brooks' guitar playing has improved. Theo's not half bad either. I'm impressed.

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | September 23, 2008 12:14 AM | Report abuse

I think "improved" is a little kind. :)

Jose was definitely the better of the two but got saddled on the drums.

Hahahha, yeah, that's what I was thinking of when I made the "smack the forehead" comment.

I know that it'll wind up in the same company.

Posted by: keef | September 23, 2008 12:22 AM | Report abuse

haha seems like everybody had a good time though. Wish I could have made it.

A new playground in Henderson, NY ??

Captain of the Washington Caps and his wife want money for a playground in New York, how touching.

What a joke,
How bout he flip the bill ?

No wonder you did not bother writing earlier, I don't blame you for putting it off. I can see Clark now, just hounding you to write something.

I bet Clark will pocket some of the money.

Just when I thought the cheapest guy to ever play in DC was gone, this guy comes around begging for money.

Build a playground in DC and I'll buy 5 of your stupid tickets, otherwise go beg for money in Henderson.

Posted by: Chief | September 23, 2008 1:09 AM | Report abuse

Boo! I was there last night. Had a great time! I had the oportunity to slap hands with Ovie, Laich and JT during the outside portion and to tell Jose "welcome to DC.". He thanked me and I heard him tell someone else he really likes it here.

Looking forward to seeing the final product!

Posted by: Jill | September 23, 2008 6:32 AM | Report abuse

It is Henderson Harbor, NY and I was trying to decide if I was going to buy a ticket or not. Thanks for tipping the scales. Thanks to you I may now buy more than one, in spite of living here and owning season tickets. The kiddies in Henderson Harbor will benefit from your ignorance. Bet that is the first time you ever benefitted anyone!

Posted by: Bob | September 23, 2008 7:11 AM | Report abuse

It's not like Chief is serious, he's just going for a reaction. And inevitably, someone gives him one. As long as people keep rewarding him, he'll keep up his schtick.

Posted by: Psych 101 | September 23, 2008 7:47 AM | Report abuse

Haha- Chief never had a playground when he was a kid and now he's jealous. You ARE aware that no one takes you seriously anymore or gives your posts any credit- right? Amusing- your animosity towards the hockey club. You're like the dude that always wanted to be a cop, then got turned down, and now hates cops. You're pricelss. Keep posting...

Posted by: Fro | September 23, 2008 8:13 AM | Report abuse

Oh he will, as long as you keep responding.

Posted by: Psych 101 | September 23, 2008 8:34 AM | Report abuse

Boo! Forgot to say that I'm certain the video is for the season. The initial e-mail said so, and I've never seen them do a separate video on Opening Night. Not to mention making two videos would double the budget! So if you had a starring role you can count on seeing yourself on big-screen HD 41 times.

BTW I was the one who yelled out that it was too much of a sausage-fest in front of the stage.

Posted by: Jill | September 23, 2008 8:50 AM | Report abuse

Chief who?

Posted by: anon | September 23, 2008 9:04 AM | Report abuse

Now I am not trying to be negative here. The Caps could honestly have an opening video of the team dressed in drag singing 90's Spice Girls songs for all I care as long as the on ice product is top notch.

And it looks like the recording was a LOT of fun and I wish I had been able to make it.

But is anybody else half expecting the final product to be so cheesy it makes Disney Channel original programing look like high brow entertainment?

I thought last year's Foo Fighters opening they used for the second half of the season was among the better ones in recent memory.

Posted by: Sombrero Guy | September 23, 2008 9:18 AM | Report abuse

Every time i hear that Foo Fighters song on the radio I half expect to hear Steve Kolbe's voice break in calling Green's OT goal.

Posted by: Sombrero Guy | September 23, 2008 9:19 AM | Report abuse

Speaking of Steve Kolbe, he just offered me Kellen Winslow for either Anquan Boldin or Chris Chambers.

OMG, OV's hair looks like Cameron Diaz in Something About Mary when she wiped giz into it. Was that supposed to be rock band hair?

Posted by: Bob | September 23, 2008 9:30 AM | Report abuse

@ Psych-

I'm hoping he does. Unlike some here, who get completely bent out of shape at his posts- they tend to lighten my day a bit.

Side note: anyone know for sure what size the beers are at VC? I've had plenty, and I'd like to say 20 oz, but that may just be wishful thinking.

Posted by: Fro | September 23, 2008 9:40 AM | Report abuse

Pretty sure they're the standard 20 oz. If Aramark runs the beer sales they are. They run 20 oz and 32 oz drinks when they have a choice.

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | September 23, 2008 9:42 AM | Report abuse

Sombrero - I don't think it'll be cheesy. Before I got there, I wasn't sure. But now...I could be wrong but I think it'll look good. It will all depend on the editing and what song gets dubbed in (I didn't particularly think the one being played was the one that will be used, but I could be wrong). As for the makeup, I'm sure it was stage makeup to counteract the lighting, etc. like a play or movie. I don't know that it's intended to be noticeable in the final product. The hair, however, is another story. JT was rocking a fauxhawk.

Posted by: Jill | September 23, 2008 9:44 AM | Report abuse

Thx J_CG.

And I know it seems like the Caps may be slated as "The same team from last year" aka- showing no signs of improvement, without getting worse (as far as sports writers are concerned). But to me, this past year of regular season experience + our playoff experience would, in and of itself, make us a better team. Teams are always looking to add "better" players during the off-season, and that's smart. But I have to think that team chemistry with a core group of players can help just as much. No?

Posted by: Fro | September 23, 2008 10:02 AM | Report abuse

Same as last healthy Nylander and Chris Clark. I'd say that's an improvement
