Collins Clears Waivers

Defenseman Sean Collins has cleared waivers and is likely to be assigned to Hershey, I'm told. That leaves Karl Alzner and Tyler Sloan battling to beat out one of the seven incumbent defensemen and earn a spot on the roster.

I'm still waiting on an update on the status of goalie Michal Neuvirth, who left this morning's practice after only a few minutes.

Neuvirth: That doesn't sound good :(

I hope there is no health related reason behind it ...

Rumor has it that Nuevy had the runs.....he went straight to the shi##er when he left the ice.

I don't see Alzner beating anyone out right now. I haven't seen enough of Sloan to offer a judgment, but chatter seems to reflect he's done well. I'd look to the same seven we closed the season with unless ShaMo gets dealt.

Good to hear BMo's on the ice. Nyls gets to practice I guess.

(a) aren't we still over cap if we keep the D from last year... isn't a trade required?

(b) Note BMo still isn't suiting up. I expect someone to provide some answers soon b/c this is BS. Whiplash my butt.

(c) I am glad Nys is getting practice and I hope he gets at least one preseason game just to prove all of us either wrong or right or to make him a more plausible trade.

Varlamov will get the start tomorrow. Neuvirth "tweaked" something, Boudreau said.

BMo isn't super durable, he's got a slighter frame than you'd like to see. But its between him or Nyles..not great pickings.

I'm betting Sloan gets a shot to do what he can do which will facilitate a trade for someone like ShaMo. Its pretty stupid that we have to trade Mo just because we got saddled with Nylander's salary. I know I know, McPhee is god, he can't do anything wrong.

The last I heard GMGM freely admitted the NMC for Nylander was a mistake. I think the reason for the talk about trading ShaMo is not just the Nylander situation, but also the fact that we have a lot of d-men with similar ability and need to trade one of them.

Yeah I mean GMGM has done so many things correctly, but his one mistake is all people are focusing on. I foresee this as the beginning of the end for NMC in the new NHL.

I may need to correct myself. Collins has cleared waivers but he may not have been assigned to Hershey yet which I though was a mere formality.

@cstanton1: McPhee isn't God. He's human. Oh, and that's right - he's the General Manager. Last I checked, the General Manager of the team makes those decisions with the help of people the organization employs. The NMC for Nylander - dead horse beaten up already. Move on....
