All the makings of a blowout for the opposition tonight.

Unless OV and his crew possess an ounce of leadership and heart inside them which I highly doubt they do, hopefully they can lose with dignity by working hard a little.

I've only seen a little of Colorado this season but I hear they have good team speed. If the Caps get loose with their positioning, that could be more of an issue than usual.

@capt- Yes, while they like the point production they've got so far from him, they're really impressed with the way he grinds in the corners and fights for every inch of ice, from what I've heard. LOL

@chrisclarksucks. Great minds it seems on that last post. Looked like we had 2 LD and noone on the right. Our two most experienced players cannot make a mistake like that.

Not able to watch the game.

Can someone let me know how the Caps look tonight?

I know they are down 2 - 1 after the first so I guess that could answer my question.

Why isn't Varly starting tonight? I have seen enough of Nuevy!

i can't help but wonder if neuvy is thinking he won't get to start tomorrow

maybe without green on the point - they can put semin on the other side with ovi for this PP

I made the mistake of switching over to NHL Network and good lord, Don Cherry is wrong for tonight's coat.

Because BB is playing players based on merit, didn't you hear, he's putting his foot down.

Posted by: FunkyGloveFacewash | December 11, 2010 8:05 PM | Report abuse

@ekbinion68

Same as the last few games. Not horrible (expect for the two goals one on Neuvy and one on Poti) getting some decent chances just not finishing.

Also Varly isn't starting because they are playing on back to back nights so we will split them anyway and we are going every other game with the goalies anyway.

Posted by: icehammer97 | December 11, 2010 8:07 PM | Report abuse

@toddshenk Neuvy may not be playing well but Holtby gave up 8 goals in his last 70 minutes on the Caps on only 28 shots. I wouldn't be calling for him anytime soon.

5 minute cross-check.... really?

Posted by: natresgroup | December 11, 2010 8:11 PM | Report abuse

Stupid play by Semin but no way was that wothy of a 5 and a game. 2 minutes yes 4 if you really want to send a message but no way should that have been a 5.

Posted by: icehammer97 | December 11, 2010 8:12 PM | Report abuse

@nicety251- Cherry is wrong for every coat he wears, he needs to just come out of the closet already, not that there's anything wrong with that. I miss Seinfeld.

Posted by: FunkyGloveFacewash | December 11, 2010 8:16 PM | Report abuse

i guess BB won't be putting Ovi, Backs and semin together to try to make up our deficit.

Posted by: natresgroup | December 11, 2010 8:17 PM | Report abuse

Maybe Leonsis should interview Kono while he's in town with the Avs...

Posted by: joek443 | December 11, 2010 8:18 PM | Report abuse

If you look the ref you is right there down low points to Semin then to the penality box it is the back ref who saw nothing but the guy go down that made the call to make it a 5. Just watched it again first ref calls to then the second ref comes in and makes the your our sign with his hand. That is what I do not like about the two ref system is when the ref who is 100 feet away can overrule the one 10 feet away.

Posted by: icehammer97 | December 11, 2010 8:19 PM | Report abuse

@icehammer- Agree on Semin call, more quality officiating.

Glad I have my own game to go to. I just hope these refs don't go from Verizon to Mt. Vernon.

Posted by: icehammer97 | December 11, 2010 8:39 PM | Report abuse

I'm still confused about Semin's ejection? Was the Avs player hurt as in bleeding, out of the game with concussion, etc.? Just when I think I figured this game out, they surprise me with something else.

Posted by: nicety251 | December 11, 2010 8:40 PM | Report abuse

Another terrible performance against less talent. It's time for Bruce to hit the bricks.

Posted by: JIMALLCAPS2 | December 11, 2010 8:43 PM | Report abuse

watching the replay, this is what i think happened on the semin call. semin got cross checked twice in the ribs heading to the net. after that they got tangled a bit at the end of the play and semin starts in with the cross check, his stick glances off the shoulder pads of the avs player as the avs player was stumbling forward. the stick then follows thru and hits the avs player in the head. hence, the 5 min. still don't really see the 5 min but in live action they see the helmet get hit and then the call.

Posted by: natresgroup | December 11, 2010 8:44 PM | Report abuse

didn't Semin crosscheck that dude in the head after the whistle?

Posted by: joek443 | December 11, 2010 8:45 PM | Report abuse

For you guys saying Semin only deserved two, what the heck are you watching. He cross checked a guy hard in the back of the head. It was blatant retaliation. He will probably get suspended for it. Was flat out stupid, how hard is it to just cross check a guy in the back...not hard at all. He went at the head.

wonder what captain ov is saying to rally the troops??or is he texting ilya?

Posted by: wendel2 | December 11, 2010 8:50 PM | Report abuse

natresggroup: Yes, that's what I came on to post. NHL rulebook says any hit with stick above waist is two for high sticking minimum. The Avs player should have had a minor and they blow the whistle. Instead the refs let that one go and hit Semin (justifiably I think) with 5 for xcheck to back of head. Semin's penalty was dangerous and could have caused injury. But, you give the Avs player two for the high stick (it's in the rulebook, maybe as Mrs Ovechkina says the refs should "read the book") and then they don't score on the PP. And at the end of ther period a Caps player is xchecked down in front of Avs goal - no call again plus Anderson DID knock the net off.

Posted by: tominsocal1 | December 11, 2010 8:52 PM | Report abuse

No joek, he crosschecked that dude in the back and the ref made another incompetent call. It's a wonder the NHL doesn't get more respect with this level of officiating we might as well be watching the WWF or Monster Truck Rallies!

liked the effort, the result sucked. They did a lot of things better in this game.

Only real complaint...the are consitently leaving that spot in front of the net open (esp. on the PP) and I think 9 out of 10 times it is Poti missing his man.

Posted by: capscoach | December 11, 2010 9:43 PM | Report abuse

@ThePat- With the stuff that they miss or let go, even the NHL, as pathetic as their consistency is, isn't lame enough to suspend Semin for that cross check.... I think. If they do, I'm going to start watching NASCAR. People driving cars around in a circle... oh my, I hope they don't suspend him!

At least the Caps put forth an honest effort in the 3rd period. That's what some of us have been talking about since last April. Go to the net and work a little.

I'm actually happier with this game than almost any game this season. If they play 3 periods tomorrow night like the played in the 3rd, the losing streak is over in...24 hours.

As for Semin, he wasn't crosschecked in the back. Look closely. What I saw was the end of the stick blade being jabbed into the upper part of his back, and technically you could call that a spear, which is, you guessed it, a five-minute penalty.

Sorry to pi$$ anyone off but Caps got gypped on that one.

If Semin doesn't get suspended, and I put 51% chance he doesn't, it's clearly because the refs overlooked a blatantly obvious foul by the Avs.

caps lose AGAIN! FREAKN PATHETIC.I dont know if its a coincidence or what but caps havent won since they trade flash for hannan.SO is it flash not bein here or hannan bein here.Well i know its neither but its just wierd that way, whatever it is something needs to change and i think that comes in the line-up to the coaching staff.Shake sheet up a lil, break this funk that is the caps.I dont know what its or what to do but i do know i dont like the caps losing this much so close to the winter classic.I dont want the caps to be made fools of with the pens playn so good and the caps playn so bad so i just hope something, someone changes within the caps and they get this thing goin again.Lets go caps, make this thing right, get it together,NOW!!!

@tominsocal @funky

He will get suspended. He deserves it. It was stupid and directly to the back of his head. Yes the refs missed the penalty on him that caused it, but that doesnt justify it. Cross check him hard to the lower back and theres no penalty and no suspension coming. He will get suspended bc it was to the head and they will consider it intent to injure.

I saw good things and bad things with the Caps tonight. Bad was the change that led to the second Colorado goal - what was that guy thinking? Good was Hendricks play and goal, that's showing a high hockey IQ there. Bad was Semin's penalty leading to the third goal. Good was the overall effort put out by the team.

Looking at the schedule, they could quite easily lose the next four games. They have to keep up this kind of effort until they break out of the slump.

Posted by: FloridaCapsFan | December 11, 2010 9:51 PM | Report abuse

The Caps frustration must've reached a boiling point cuz I'm pretty sure I saw Boyd Gordon show some emotion on the bench... heh.

In all seriousness, a perfect storm of fail for a team that needed a win mostly for its phsyche (I actually think they've played well in 2-3 of their losses).

-A really soft goal given up by Neuvirth.

-A not-so-surpirsing frustration penalty from Senor Semin.

-An awful positional/line change breakdown on Col's 2nd goal.

I'd add the breakdown during the 5 min PK but that tends to happen when you have to kill off a major. They were largely great on that PK. All it takes is one mistake though...

Posted by: tmac2yao | December 11, 2010 9:52 PM | Report abuse

Is it me or do opposing players go through Poti like a fart goes through a colander?

Posted by: FloridaCapsFan | December 11, 2010 9:57 PM | Report abuse

My thoughts on the game: I give it a B-. Make no mistake, the first goal was 100% Neuvy's fault. He misread the pass and deflected it in himself. I think that Semin was 100% at fault and deserving of the penalty. The only beefs I had with the officiating is (1) the non-call for delay of game when the Avs knocked the goal off when play was close and (2) the blown whistle on Flash's penalty when the Caps had control.

Overall, I think the Caps played with more grit and determination than any of the previous 4 games. I do not think BB should be fired, but I think he needs to work the team harder instead of having a 3-on-3 game and joking around/laughing it up in the middle of his longest losing streak.

Good teams lose. Still second place in the Eastern Conference. Still first place in the SE Division. Still fourth place in the League. Third highest number of wins in the League. Still have a +13 goal differential. Still on pace for a 47-50 win season We probably won't win the Presidents' Trophy again but the last few years have put a silver spoon into the mouths of Caps fans. This team is better prepared defensively and that will go a long way once the offense starts to click again.

It's not that bad.

Posted by: sabredc | December 11, 2010 10:01 PM | Report abuse

If the Caps win or lose against the Pens in the Winter Classic it will be no different than if we win or lose to them on the 23rd or against any other NHL team. The best thing we can get from the Winter Classic is 2 points. Does it guarantee us a Cup? No.

If you're frustrated with the Caps you have two options.

1.) Dump them as your team and go hop onto another team's bandwaggon.
2.) Just accept that the Caps won't likely win the Stanley Cup, and cheer for them anyway, because that's what fans such as I and some others have done. Sure it's frustrating, but nobody is stopping you from cheering for another team. The Caps have been around since 1974, and have never won a Cup. Why should this year be any different from the past?
What makes you think any other coach will win us a Cup? Did Bryan Murray do it? How about his brother Terry? Jim Schoenfeld? Ron Wilson? Alright he's close. How about Bruce Cassidy? It's just the way of the world sadly.

Posted by: joek443 | December 11, 2010 10:05 PM | Report abuse

@ThePat- Even though the cross check looked to be towards the head, it doesn't mean that's what Semin intended (intent to injure). It was retaliatory and went towards the head but in most such instances when a player is retaliating with a cross check, the location of their contact is not necessarily where they intended it to be. 5 min majors are seldom called and therefore to justify a suspension on top of that, they really should have something more significant than what Semin did. That being said, I wouldn't put it past the inconsistent NHL to give him a suspension for that hit but I still say it would be unjustified.

Gee wizz, FloridaCapsFan, it's not often someone can send me to the dictionary to look up the meaning of a word.

So I really must ask, now that I've read the definition, why would anyone cut a fart through a colander?

BTW, FloridaCapsFan, we have a club here on CI, it's caled the "Why in God's Name Did McPhee Sign Poti to an Extension" club.

The club's pretty full. I'm a charter member, having joined up about two minutes after the new contract was announced. Welcome aboard!

Suspension or not, the Avs went after Laich and not Semin. It would seem that they would run at Semin if malice was intended.

Anyway, we'll know in the morning. My dad always said to watch out for the quiet ones. Maybe Semin wants to get rid of his bongo playing image. :-)

Other than the championships won I judge the greatness of a team in any sport by their road record. This team is a .500 team in that category this year.

Pitt is 11-3-1 and Philly is 9-2-3, enough said.

hockeynightincanada: None of those other coaches had the talent this coach has.

OK, I will grant you, compared to the talent we had, Bryan Murray really underachieved in the playoffs. There was one year, maybe 82-83, Caps led the league in PP and PK efficiency.

Bryan Murray has been a lousy playoff coach his whole life. So, really, have been Terry Murray and Ron Wilson. I think Wilson did have some success with early Ducks teams though. And Shoney had some success with NJ, but not with Caps.

To be honest, the Caps have never had an upper echelon coach. Never. Not then, not now.

This is my honest opinion. If you threw the 30 names of NHL coaches in a hat, and names of 30 teams in another hat, and re-matched all the 30 coaches at random with new teams, Boudreau would do worse with whever he went and whoever got the Caps would do better. Those are the 50/50 odds.

Our beloved Caps will continue to lose until there is some true leadership on the ice and behind the bench. It's time for BB to go so he can focus on making stupid commercials.

I haven't seen enough of Hannan to be sure, but I've seen enough of Poti to make an assessment that he's not "above average." Average, maybe, but not above average.

If there are 30 teams in the NHL and six defenders each that's 180 defenders. I think you'd have an easy time picking 90 over Poti.

I think they have and I believe that his time has run it's course. Overall I like BB but I do think that there needs to be a coaching change soon if not by the end of the weekend.

Being an NHL defender is much touhger than being a forward. Every time someone scores and you are on the ice you get blamed. The replay shows over and over how it happened. Goalie may be tougher that being said.

Division leaders get top three regardless of points.

Pitt is first with 44, Caps are second with 39, and the Habs are third with 38. Then Philly with 43.

@hersheykid
When did BB tell Semin to crosscheck someone in the back of the head? When did BB tell Carlson to get out of position and leave a guy open in the crease? Players make their own mistakes.

Do you guys think the biggest problem is coaching, or is it simply because the Caps don't have enough depth and the quality of depth that other teams have? Because when the top guys are struggling for a period of time, a deep team can usually overcome that with other players stepping up, and not have to rely on their top guys every single game.

Btw, Thrashers with their win tonight are only a few points back with a game in hand.

again, if we trade Semin, who will score goals in this team? I don't know why is it so difficult for BB to put 8-19-28 together, for two years that line scored tons of goals. With Knuble, in place of Semin, 1st line looks slower and Knuble keep putting his garbage goals, Laich-Mj or Mp-Knuble is solid 2nd line, grinder line with some scoring ability.

Most coaches reward their players when they're playing well by giving them some PP time. But with BB it's always the same personnel on the PP every game.

Well tonight he put some new guys in there outta desperation and because of Semin's ejection. BB puts the guys in their place by the way he uses them, he doesn't like to mix things up.

To be fair, BigGameSid has put a few other reasonable posts.

I look at it this way, Captain: When the Caps are doing well, reasoanbly well, and he spots a chink in the armor, BGS picks at that chink like a third grader picks at the scab on his knee.

Times have changed though to the point where BGS actually feels sorry for us kinda like Yankess fans feels sorry for Orioles fans (OK, bad example, Yankees fans don't feel sorry for anyone even if their mother died that morning). Anyway, you gotta like the question BGS asks there.

The answer, BGS, in a nutshell, is both.

Last spring I dissected (some of my fans will remember) the caps loss to the Habs and put down the six reasons and the percentages on each why Caps lost. I think I had:

20% McPhee fails to acquire proper pieces
20% Boudreau gets outcoached
20% Habs players played the system better
20% Habs players simply worked harder
15% Halak had a super few games
5% bad bounces incl not allowing Knuble goal in Game 7.

As you can see, BGS, and you, too, Capt Kirk, although you know anyway, "hot goalie" was only part of the issue. Not having a D group that can clear the crease and closeout games and not having a checking line (those are on McPhee) was a big part too. And getting taking to school by Martin with less talent (that's on BB) was a big part. Meanwhile Martin told his guys to stand in the slot and take the pain of blocked shots and they did it, over and over, while Caps bombed away from further out than the US Navy launches Tomahawk missiles.

Hot goalie? Sure, but we made it easy.

There you go, BGS, everything you wanted to know about why the Caps come up small the bigger the game and more.

On another subject, I've created a new drink. Yes! Smirnoff vodka, Ocean Spray cranberry juice and Paul Newman's lemonade. It's a beautiful deep red, pretty close to Caps home jersey. I was going to name it the "Butch Cassidy" in honor of Mr. Newman but given what that name means to Caps fans I'll just call it Smirnoff, cranberry and lemonade. Oh, on ice.

Cheers.

BTW, tomorrow's score, in advance: Caps 5, Rangers 2.

I'll be watching DVR since I'm going to the beach as it's supposed to be SUNNY and 75. Yessir, watching gals at the beach on Sunday sure beats football.

This guy scored his 100th career WHL goal Friday night before the call up to the Toronto tryout camp. Eakin has spent enough time in Juniors. He is needed as the second line center in Washington!

Well this is a hard post for me to write - I've been a kool-aid drinker for a long time now, but after tonight's game, and watching this entire season, not just the losing streak, I've become a dark-sider. This team will NOT win a cup with the personnel AND current coach. I think the players have tuned out BB, that he doesn't know how to change/tweak his system to take advantage of other team's weaknesses, and his commercials have made him into a buffoon.

I took my name at the beginning of the season, truly thinking this was the year we would make it, at least to the Cup finals. Sadly, I do not think it will happen now unless Boudreau is no longer the coach.

According to a tweet by D Chesnokov that I read on another site, there will not be a suspension. I do, however, expect a healthy scratch.

The whole thing reminds me some incidents involving my elder daughter who is so like Sasha in many ways. Back in Grade 1, a kid accused her of peeing in the cafeteria when lemonade had been spilled and she hauled off and hit him and got in trouble. Then in HS, a guy had posted crap about her in an IM status and she hit that guy but did NOT get in trouble since her teacher liked her better than that guy.

Thisistheyear: Don't feel bad. Really, the first thing you need to do, is attend one of the meetings:

"Hi, my name is thisistheyear and I'm a Drak Sider."

At that point PhilR will fit you with a black, hooded robe and you will be given a large goblet of goat's blood. joek443 and cstanton1 will begin chanting, in Latin, and Phil will help lift the goblet to your lips. On drinking, rivulets of the blood will stream down both sides of your mouth, onto the robe, but no stain will be apparent in the black material.

I know this because I have watched the ceremony.

I myself, although I asked Phil to send me a robe, have not partaken. I will not drink the goat's blood just as I refuse to sip from the plastic, child's cup of Kool-Aid.

One must maintain one's objectivity.

Meanwhile being only 9 pm here PST I have plenty of time yet tonight for six, maybe eight more drinks. Then it's off to the beach tomorrow 6 am with a six-pack+ of Tecate's.

I can only imagine thisistheyear the burning sensation as the goat's blood hits the back of your throat and falls into your stomach and then traverses your body. You will at once desire to win every hockey game but revel in the ecstasy of defeat becuase you can say, "I told you so." And then there's the comedown when the latest hit of goat's blood wears off. You will forsake your loved ones and your job and begin hanging out in dark alleys looking to score. In the glove compartment of you car they will find maps of close-by goat farms.

I believe I will instead mix up another of those Butch Cassidys.

@tominsocal1 - LOVING YOUR POSTS. Spot on with the dissection of the Caps. I hope GMGM is watching and knowing what he still needs to add with this team.

POSTGAME THOUGHTS:
Press the panic button. Run for the hills. Find the nearest bridge or cliff and jump LOLOL. Ok just kidding.
I love every minute of grit and effort this team showed down the stretch but you have to do that for 60 minutes. Let's hope the team can take that and go into NY tomorrow night and light it up.

MATT HENDRICKS: A beast. Take notes skilled smooth stars - do what he does and you will win games again.

NEUVIRTH: You CANNOT give up a weak goal like that to start the game. WEAK WEAK WEAK. Sure you were solid the rest of the way but guess what I'm remembering you for tonight. THat's right.

POWERPLAY: That last one was atrocious as it gets. A chance to tie the game.

DEFENSE/FIRE BOB WOODS: What the h*ll is going on with the second goal with Poti and Hannan being on the same side of the ice. And on the third goal - yes they were shorthanded - but no excuse for that guy to be that wide open. NONE. Even Laughlin said it. This has been a problem with this team. Why are both defenders getting sucked to one side of the ice or the puck carrier?? THis is a big problem. Fire Woods NOW - his AHL coaching ability and defensive posturing sucks. You need to preach defensive lanes and STAYING AT HOME in them. An utter disgrace. All Colorado's goals come on Capital defensive zone lapses. WAKE UP McPhee - if Boudreau is too stubborn to do it then you fire Woods and get someone in here that knows how to coach defense.

SEMIN: Stupid stupid stupid. Lack of discipline but not a major penalty. Semin should know better but instead it results in a major where the game winner was scored.

FEHR AND LAICH: I keep saying it. Get rid of both of these guys. They just don't cut it. Did Laich even play tonight? If so he was ghost. Sure Fehr tried making plays but if he got through he was falling on his ass or getting pushed off the puck with ease. Upgrade from these two guys.

POWERPLAY REVISITED: If you're keeping Laich then use him and Hendricks or better yet use Chimera and plant those two guys in front of the goalie Boudreau. Stop playing perimeter hockey and fire it in there.

Hopefully this game is a building block to start things back up. This team has played too much at home. Get on the road and get it together boys.

It's been a crap night.

I believe that Matt Hendricks should play on the second line with Laich and Perreault for tomorrow's game.

CF75: I don't think he'll be suspended. I think Campbell will do like Julius Caesar and hold the thumb sideways and then slowly allow it to move upward.

If he is, though, and there's still nearly 50% chance of that happening, I believe Eric Fehr will be RW vs the Rangers.

God in Heaven only knows why they don't recall Andrew Gordon. If Hendricks has proved anything, those are the type of players we need.

I'm of a mind at this point to let Bradley, Steckel, Knuble and Perreault go after this year. And Chimera, too, is now ten games without contributing on the scoresheet. Plus can we honestly say Johansson, as some of us suggested, STRONGLY, couldn't use some time in Hershey?

The only marginal player who's made a strong case to come back, given salary expectations, is Erskine.

Oh well. We must remember it's always coldest in the morning just before the first rays of dawn crack under the otherwise black sky to the east.

@tominsocal1

Dimitry Chesnokov does not believe that Semin will be suspended. I would not be surprised if Boudreau decides to scratch him, not just for the vicious cross check but given the fact that he's not fully healthy anyhow. (He would definitely NOT be playing tomorrow if Hanlon were in charge but there's a reason Boudreau's a better coach than Hanlon).

Other things:
Would not be surprised if Knuble's gone next year or if he's back, it's for a pay cut. Probably time to let Stecks go. I was also surprised to see them sign Poti again for as long as they have. Have mixed feelings on Bradley even though he's a great guy. Perreault I'd keep. Andrew Gordon would probably have to pass waivers in order to come up. (If it were up to me, I'd call him up.)

thisis... Although the Capt makes a strong plea against the goat's blood, and seemingly for the Kool-Aid, wisely for sure you must choose.

The Kool-Aid, you must know, is refined from Rod Langway's sweat. I don't know if you were around when Rod played, but he sweated so much that he'd soak through a pair of gloves and have to get a new pair after each period. Ever watch him being interviewed between periods? You could fill a swimming pool (Olympic sized) just from the sweat on his forehead. Anyway, much of this sweat was stored on Funk & Wagnall's front porch along with some of Johnny Carson's stuff and was mixed in with the red dye from Semin's undershirt after that fight with Staal and that's how they make the Kool-Aid.

There's no turning back after the goat's blood, for sure, but you've also read I know the anguish from others who have hit the "plastic cup" with vigor and you have to know it's just as hard to kick that habit too.

Choose wisely. Choose very wisely.

BTW, there's plenty of room here on the fence. Just don't forget your shorts else that barbed wire hurts like a MF.

I think since every team passed on him going down, and it was A TWO-WAY DEAL, that these players can come up and play up to ten games before needing waivers again. Something like that.

BTW, loved that story about your daughter being accused of peeing in first grade. I myself have weathered similar accusations from law enforcement personnel.

On a related nore, my daughter sees me making drink after drink with cranberry juice and she asks if I have a "really bad UTI."

OK, she knows about UTIs but doesn't know when to change the oil in her car. No wonder the country's going under.

what i won't do is drink the goats blood and spend my remaining days as a caps fan in a angry, bitter funk - always waiting for the next bad thing to happen.

It's time for BB and the caps to re-visit their strategy of spotting the other team 3 goals and then trying to score 4 or more. I feel this is an ineffective strategy because sometimes you can only score 2 or 0, and then you lose.

Perhaps and effort needs to be made, and I know this sound crazy but hear me out, to actually attempt to limit the number of goals that the opposing team scores. This way, on nights when you don't score as much as you like, you still have a good shot at winning.

Also, as an aside, the reason Sasha takes asine penalties like that is because the opposition takes runs at him without feat of retaliation. This team is afraid to fight and everyone knows it. I feel that affects outcomes of games as well.

@Tom. I thought the rule with juniors was that they could not go to the AHL until the team was done with the season but could come to the NHL. I know there were several players up from the CHL at the start of the season and teams had until the players 9th game to decide if they were going to keep them up. Is there some part of the rule that says the ability to call them up ends at a certain date that I do not know about? If not I think it is actually possible to call up Eakin. As for if he should be called up there is a BIG difference between juniors and the NHL so him getting 100 goals in juniors is not that big of an indicator of if he will do well in the NHL. Flash had over 50 goals in 2 seasons Eakin is in his 4th full season so pace wise he is at Flash's level. Didn't everyone just want to get rid of Flash?

@VTDuffman

If anything, the team has been fighting more this year than last so I don't think that's much of a problem.

Still, it sometimes does seem that the opposition does take runs at our players, without getting called for penalties. And I'm sure that was what was going on in Sasha's mind. Granted he should not have retaliated so hard but understandable in a way.

But lately the Caps have done so poorly at scoring that the game is generally over as soon as the opposition scores their second or third goal.

icehammer: Here's the deal. Players can't go into the draft I think until they have completed 2 of the 4 yrs of Junior (if they are in the CMJ leagues). These 19- and 20-year-olds can come directly into the NHL before finishing their jr eligibility. However, to do this they must start the season in the NHL. THEN, the NHL team they go with has up to 9 games trial period. If the jr-eligible player plays less than ten games in the NHL, he can go back and rejoin his jr club. Once ten games played in NHL that season, no going back and NO AHL! Now, once back to jr club, they stay in junior until the season ends for their team. and, once the jr season (incl playoffs) ends for their jr team, and assuming they sign an NHL contract (either a EL deal or one of those temp contracts) they can go to AHL for the balance of the season (as Carlson did two years ago) or they can come up and join an NHL team.

Now, with Eakin, he has signed an NHL EL deal. He must stay at Swift Current (or if they trade him to another WHL) until that team's season is OVER. At that point, the caps can assign him to Hershey or with Caps. And, since this is his 4th year in WHL, next year Caps can assign him Hershey or ECHL or wherever from the get-go.

At any rate, I don't think there's anyway for him to come up to the Caps, not even some emergency move, until Broncos season ends.

BB has to go. I thought all of you learned your lesson last spring. Sure, go ahead and keep on blaming the role players on this team. The "star" players continue to under-perform, and the Caps make too many stupid mistakes. BB continues to break this team apart, instead of pulling them together. He has to learn how to effectively "manage". I'm glad I'm not being "coached" by BB because then I'd be subjected to all of his bs and mismanagement. He's terrible. This team isn't going anywhere with BB as head coach. 5 losses in a row...unbelievalbe..........

BB better simplify the lines and get some consistency with chemistry instead of constantly tinkering and breaking apart the effective lines in order to have scoring every where because right now there is no scoring anywhere. I agree that he should start with keeping 8-19-28 together for the rest of the season instead of just one game and get their game and confidence back. Because all I know is that if BB will not do it, I am sure his replacement will gladly start with that.
