Drama In South Florida

Might this work in Washington's favor?

George Richards of The Miami Herald reported over the weekend that trade rumors (again) had gotten back to Olli Jokinen, upsetting the Panthers captain, but that he hugged it out with team ownership on Saturday. Richards also mentioned rumors about the Florida dressing room nearing a "revolt", but he sort of shot that down, too. Anyway, make sure to wander over to his blog. It will catch you up on all things Cats heading into tonight's Southeast showdown at Verizon Center.

Jokinen was also upset with his season-low 13:50 of ice time against the Caps on Thursday, according to this report in The Palm Beach Post. (While you're over there, check out this interesting story by Brian Biggane about a resurgent Richard Zednik.)

So are the Panthers a distracted/mutinous team? Maybe, maybe not. But this much is certain: The Caps, losers of three straight and in dead last place, need any edge they can get at this point.

Note:I'll be in and out until this afternoon, but I'll do my best to get the latest news up quickly.

Update:As of 11:30, the Caps had not removed Semin from IR, so the roster move needed to clear space for him also had not been made. Unless it involves putting someone on waivers (I'll have to call around the league to get that info), we may not find out until game time.

Update:I'm told the Caps do not have anyone on the waiver wire today.
