Early notes from Capitals training camp

Here are some early notes from Day 1 of training camp:

*Group B has been on the ice for a little while now and Tomas Fleischmann is centering a line with Brooks Laich and Alexander Semin on the wings.

*Coach Bruce Boudreau likes to skate players hard on the first day, whether veterans or rookies. But the end-of-practice bag skate didn't seem to phase John Carlson much, even toward the end. Carlson did say he was a little sore afterward, but added that he felt good overall through the first grueling workout.

*Alex Ovechkin, who appeared a little winded at the end of the session, spoke to the media after Group A's skate about the expectations facing the Capitals this season.

"You know, this is, I think, our problem. Everybody expects we're going to beat everybody and win. Let's just play one game and then another one. We'll see what's going to happen. ... We feel we have a pretty good team, and it doesn't matter what somebody says about us. We're ready for a fight, and we're ready for a battle."

*Mike Knuble offered some of his trademark perspective as well: "All we have to do come March and April is say, 'Here's where we were last year. Look what happened to us. Are we playing well? Are we doing the right things?' Not winning games, it doesn't matter. It matters if you're feeling good, and everybody's comfortable, and everybody's doing what they're supposed to. That's what going to be most important come April, not where we are in the standings."

*The team's training camp t-shirt should give a pretty good idea of the Capitals' attitude this season. The back reads: "Stay angry. Believe in yourselves."

Maybe I missed this, but why is Kuznetsov not in camp?

@PS KHL season has already started and he is playing there this season since he wasn't making the Caps.

I think Kuznetsov would have as much chance as any of the other young guys to make the team. However, he is under contract with the KHL and a buyout would be more feasible next year, as I understand the situation.

The team practice motto is good, but it should be "Stay angry. Take it out on the other team!"
