Eminger Surprised by Trade to Tampa

I also caught up with former Capitals defenseman Steve Eminger, who was traded from Philadelphia to Tampa Bay on Friday. He said he was caught off guard the move and was told by Flyers' management that it wasn't because of his play.

"I was happy with the way things were going in Philly," Eminger said. "I was surprised. And when [GM Paul Homlgren] said Tampa Bay, I was a little more surprised because I knew they were playing us next day. It was a pretty unique situation."

In fact, Eminger only had to walk down the hallway at Wachovia Center. I joked that the Lightning, technically, owed him a per diem for Saturday since he was on the road, he cracked, "I still have to ask about that."

Tonight, Eminger said he expects to be paired with Lukas Krajicek and get some time on the power play. He skated 14 minutes in the Lightning's 2-1 win over Philly.

Even though he's got a new defensive partner, a new system and a new city to adjust to, Eminger said it hasn't been that bad because of all the former Caps on Tampa Bay's roster. In addition to Olie Kolzig, the 'Bolts also have Jeff Halpern, who is injured, and Matt Pettinger, who likely be a healthy scratch tonight.

"These three guys were there when I first broke into the league, so they helped me back then, and they've helped me already in two days," Eminger said. "I've always liked going to Tampa, the city and visiting there. It's Florida. But more important to me is that they are Stanley Cup champions from a few years back."

I am surprised that so many people can't accept that you can have allegiace to your team but still wish a player on another team well. I want the Caps to win but I also want to show Olie the respect that he deserves. I'll cheer when we score, but I will cheer for Olie, too. Frankly, I hope both keepers have great games - it will make it more exciting when we win! ;-)

I know what it means, it is just not something you hear a lot (unless you are, well, you know! ;-)).

Unless Emmy just totally sucks in Tampa he should get ice time. They're a little thin with right shooting d-men.

Any word on Ovie's stick issues?
I noticed at the last two games that he was definitely using a Bauer stick instead of a CCM.
Have you asked him about this?

Boo, would you think badly of me if I told you that I hope we light Olie up? I'd be happy with a good old fashioned a@@ whooping. Just sayin'.

Im guessing there is a good chance Eminger hangs Olie out to dry on a few own-end giveaways. We should all be excited that it's in a Black and Silver jersey.

As long as you are not booing him, I would not think badly of you (not that I could EVER think badly of YOU! ;-)).
