Fedorov Hurt, Too

Veteran center Sergei Fedorov left the game with about 14 minutes to go. Details on the injury were scarce, but GM George McPhee said a few moments ago that he doesn't believe its all that serious.

It's believed to be a "lower body" injury.

Fedorov, of course, was the second Caps player to leave early tonight. Defenseman Shaone Morrisonn went out with a groin injury in the first period. His status is also unclear.

I guess I'll repeat my comment about the horrible ice conditions on this post, too. You know, more bang for the buck.

Josie was also injured tonight, actually it was his chances of ever being the number one goalie again that were injured. Please send him to South Carolina!

Tarik, any word on what happened to Rod Brind'Amour during the play the led to Semin's GWG? The replays in the arena weren't keyed on him enough to tell, but it looks like his own player clipped him on the bridge of the nose? There will be blood!

Posted by: cityspirit | November 6, 2008 10:29 PM | Report abuse

Just got home from the game!

What a third period! This is more like the Caps team that we all expected to see this season!

Posted by: _jordan | November 6, 2008 10:33 PM | Report abuse

Yeah, all I could see what the blood trail on the ice from BrindA'mour... any word?

Ovechkin's got a 3 point night! That's what we're used to seeing!

...but it means I have to prematurely retire my Semin jersey. I wore my black Ovechkin jersey tonight in hopes it would spark him. And now I have to keep wearing it. Small price to pay, but still sucks I won't get to wear my new jersey anymore....

Rod was hit by the follow through on Semin's shot. Not sure where, but in the face for sure. Semin hit him but it is not high sticking when it is a shot.

Sweet victory! I like that all Russian line. When do we play the Pens?

Looks like goal replays are up (for those of us who were passed out sick for one of the goals):

Now THAT was a hockey game!! :-D I have not had as much fun at a Caps game since the end of last season. I'll be back for more on Saturday!!

RE: B'A, I think he was hit above the eye with a stick, but I am not sure. I was hoping to get the details here. There was an awful lot of blood, but everyone was so pumped that the Caps pulled off a W in the last 10 seconds that B'A got kind of lost in the shuffle. :-/

I hope to see Johnny again on Saturday and that this has sparked the boys to another exciting streak.

LET'S GO CAPS!!! :-D

That there was some HOCKEY, boys and girls!

* Johnny is smokin'! .941 on the save percentage tonight.
* Semin for two, Fedorov for one, and Ovechkin with three asissts!
* Bäckström looked good as well.
* And that fight was a thing of beauty!

The injuries are a bit worrisome; hopefully none of the three are too serious...

Well that was fun. Some irrelevant arena beer-marinaded thoughts:

Felt like the first period was a sleepwalk, despite the SOG on net.

No way did I think Laich was coming back for the third based on how he left the ice late in the 2nd. But he's a hockey player!

Mike Green's defensive detriment wound up with a +3, if he just concentrated on defense...

Here's hoping the injuries aren't serious, but it smells like a callup might be in the cards. I'll take the points, bring on the Rangers in another big game.

Section117:
Speaking of Laich, one of the best parts of the game was when Laich knocked the puck out of our zone despite the fact that he was limping (and almost crawling!) off the ice. Talk about a team player!!

TV viewers:
How did that translate on the tube?

Posted by: Boo- | November 6, 2008 11:15 PM | Report abuse

Yeah, Brooks is the man. He is the one hobbling on the ice and still manages to clip the puck with his stick so he can get off.

Does anyone have video of the "scuffle" that happened between Schultz and the Cane (think it was Walker)? What was that about?

The 3-stars presentation was kind of weird. Ovie was cute trying to sneak away when the announcers first said a Cane was #2 star.

First part of the game was frustrating. But that last few minutes brought back good memories from last season.

Kim:
They got tangled up and the Cane got frustrated and a little chippy. It was almost like a slap fight. Kinda funny they ended up flippin' their lids and then both skating the the puck! :-) It was a bit odd.

Boo
Just like you desctibed it

Posted by: Riddler1 | November 6, 2008 11:21 PM | Report abuse

Yeah, when I was refueling and saw that from the concourse, I followed him back to the tunnel, looked worse than the Green shot from last week. Here's hoping that, Morrison and Fedorov are all scares, nothing more. I've gotta think that with the NBA team playing tomorrow, the ice won't be too hot come Saturday.

that's skating TO the puck ...

Poor backstrom

Posted by: austinsteve | November 6, 2008 11:24 PM | Report abuse

Sweet game. That's what I wanted to see. A couple of quick thoughts on my way to the sack.

Congrats, guys, on a job well done.

Backstrom, please shoot the puck dammit.

But it's just one night, a beautiful night though it was. Tomorrow, it's back to work. With Fedorov and Morrisson both questionable for Saturday right now, everybody is going to have to give 110% the whole sixty minutes if you want the W against the Rangers. I know damn well you can do it. If you're reading this, I know you can tear the Rangers apart if you play like you did tonight (and shoot the puck more). BRING IT HOME, BOYS!

Johnny

Laich had me scared for a bit there.

Feds hurt? SUCK SUCK SUCK. *hits the make not suck button a whole bunch of times*

Johnny earned another start. If it wasn't for his mechanically sound play in this game, Caps lose by 2 or more. If BJ strings together a couple more games like the past 2, he's the new #1. I'm pulling for him. He sucked up his pride late last year when GMGM brought in Huet and Johnny was put on the shelve until this year. He's a true team player and I'd like to see him rise to the top!

Don't touch Semin if you have the chance. You'll burn your fingers!

I'll bite my tongue on the negatives from tonight and hope that BB addresses them in practices ahead.

Nice win Caps!!! 3rd period had that playoff aura inside the VC.

Posted by: puckman | November 6, 2008 11:48 PM | Report abuse

A great game tonight!! The PK was especially effective during a critical 5 on 3 when Johnnie flipped the puck over the glass for a penalty.

I agree with others that the energy level for the first part of the game seemed on the low side.

Brent should start again next game after another excellent performance. I hope the injuries are not too serious (including the one on the Carolina), and that we have something left in the tank for the Rangers. They are playing well and we are going to need it.

@ Boo

Brooksy breaking up the pass while limping off the ice translated well on TV too. I could hear the whole arena roar as it happened.

Section117 - Amazing how a player can be awful but get a plus rating when the line he spends most of his time with is performing especially well. If you thought Green played well last night then you have no comprehension of what is happening on the ice. Green was awful, but he was bailed out by his defensive partner and his goaltender on the repeated 2-on-1s he caused. But hey, he was out there when the Russians were scoring so he must be good, right? Please.
