Fedorov: 'It's Just a Dispute'
Viktor Kozlov and Sergei Fedorov joined their teammates for an informal skate this morning, leaving Alexander Semin as the only roster player yet to report. I'm hearing he's expected to arrive from Russia late today or tomorrow.
On another subject, I asked Fedorov about the lawsuit a Michigan bank filed against him over the summer alleging that he owes more than $2 million in unpaid loans. The debt still hasn't been repaid, Fedorov acknowledged, but he also said he's not broke and he doesn't anticipate the issue dragging out much longer or becoming a distraction.
"It's just a dispute," Fedorov said. "It's been addressed and it will be resolved soon. From our perspective it's never been an issue."
Fedorov indicated that he wanted to tell his side of the story but that his lawyer has advised him not to say too much about the suit.

If Fedorov said it I believe it. Sergei wouldn't have signed with the Caps if he were broke.

Tarik: What time are players due to report tomorrow? Since you mentioned Semin may arrive in town tomorrow, just wondering if he will be there at the scheduled time.

Does anyone know if the rookie game is/or when it will be on the NHL Network?

WHew!!
Glad to know that a future hall of famer is not broke.
I mean...he does only have six cars which was starting to concern me since one was a 2006 BMW.

Um, no, I don't think the NHL Network is showing the rookie game.
Posted by: Um...no | September 18, 2008 12:45 PM | Report abuse
actually it would make sense that feds would sign if he needed the money to pay back the loan.

The NHL has been showing a slew of rookie games around the league - just wondering if the Caps-Flyers will be on?
Posted by: mlk | September 18, 2008 12:57 PM | Report abuse
@TJ
You're right, yesterday on the Capitals Report Mike Vogel reported seeing Alexander Semin, but that he wasn't on the ice.
Posted by: freakinandpeakin | September 18, 2008 12:59 PM | Report abuse
The rookie game (at 3PM) is being streamed on the Caps website per the Ice Chips email many of us received. The NHL Network is showing games on a delayed basis from the Tarverse City Michigan Rookie Tournament. There is also a rookie tournament in Toronto I believe. That torunament is not being covered on the NHL Network

I think the point was that if Feds was broke, he probably would've gone back to Russia and signed a much more lucrative deal in the Superleague...

PAY UP FEDS! Pay up right now before you cause further destruction to our financial system(s).

No offense, Tarik but what's the fascination with Feds personal affairs? He's not a political figure, so why all the stories on this legal dispute? It's not like it has anything to do with his play which is really all we should care about. He's coming to DC to play center, not be vice-president.

I know im just a fan but heres what i think. Trade Federov(who missed a wide open net that would have sent us to the second round) and Kozie(even though he proved to be somewhat of a clutch player) for a top line left wing with a left shot that could possibly prove to have better chemistry with ovie and backstrom. We have prospects ready to step up and federov and kozie are just in the way. I kinda think the same about brash and erskine as well. Even though i doubt erkine cracks the line up.

@ capsHSC
So when you put your newly acquired LW on the line with Ovechkin or Semin, do you intend for them to line up on the right side, or are you dyslexic?
Posted by: Anonymous | September 18, 2008 1:49 PM | Report abuse
@anonymous
dyslexic, but its pretty obvious what i meant. If you didnt understand you could have just asked. Also, if your going to call someone out on something and be a smart aleck, you could at least go by something other than anonymous.

Sombrero Guy posted a few good blogs from japers Rink the other say. WOrth taking a look at. It breaks down some stats; it was good work. Eitherway, i hear what your saying about a top flight RW. However, two seasons ago, Clark put up 30 goals (at least 8 were Semin shots that knicked his arm and so he got credit, to be fair). I'm looking forward to seeing what he can bring this season. Fehr is the hope for top line RW. We'll see how he does this year. If not, then they need to get their hands on one 2nd tier RW. They can't afford a 1st tier, and with the LW's they have, they don't need one.

Feds likes the team, likes the youth of the team and thinks it has great potential. He was offered more to lay elsewhere but chose to come back here.
His most valuable contribution is the steady leadership and sterling example he sets. His experience is invaluable to the guys who are learning how to win a Stanley Cup.
Oh yeah, everyone misses an open net now and then, I even saw Gretzky miss one years ago.

There were some that actually questioned Puckguru's year - long touting of Victor Dovgan and Oskar Osala as diamonds in the rough. These uninformed "Fans" kept insisting that Dovgan and "Double O" were merely obscure prospects at best. Well, after watching today's Rookie Game, I can only hope that their lack of awareness has been diminished somewhat.
For my money, Dovgan was the hands down, undisputed Top Defenseman on the ice today. He did everything but operate the Zamboni. Same goes for double "O." He was outstanding as well. AND, BOTH OF THEM WERE WILLING TO DROP THE GLOVES AND STAND UP FOR THEIR TEAM MATES!! The big club could certainly use a couple of more guys with that mentality. Don't you agree? I'm certain Christobal Huet would.
These two youngsters' performances are just one more example of why there's only one legitimate "Guru" on THIS BOARD. Obviously, that's me. Peace.....

Posted by: Excited Caps fan | September 18, 2008 5:58 PM | Report abuse
We should just put them in the hall of fame now, to save everyone the trouble. No need to see either of them compete against, you know, actual NHL players or anything.
Posted by: frosty | September 18, 2008 6:04 PM | Report abuse
I was at the game and was suprised that Dovgan was not better after playing with the big boys in Russia for a year. He was not bad!!! He just has a ways to go before he sees any time in the big league. I was most impressed with speed. There were times when the Caps kids looked like they were skating circles around the impressively large Filthy kids. Did anyone notice if they rotated 3 goalies the way we did?
Posted by: Bob | September 18, 2008 6:19 PM | Report abuse
Yeah, Philly's goalies were rotating, around and around, which is why they couldn't stop any shots! That was a beat down. Carlson looks pretty good for kid. Alzner is playing in Washington this year.

puckguru: one successful rookie game does not an NHL'er make.
That said, I like what I see from Osala. I'd have no trouble seeing him play in Flash's place at some point this year.

so I'm a little bit 'wtf' right now about the debt thing. my question is simply stated: How? (and then maybe, Why?) so i'm looking forward to the explanation behind all this, and hopefully the story plays out that he isn't really that fiscally r/e/t/a/r/d/e/d.
And I think as a general rule let's not even write about the trivial short-comings of any of the other players (e.g. that trivial $2M thing..?). Federov was at super-hero status for me and now he's sitting at Inspector Gadget status -likeable, but what the heck else are you hiding under that trench coat? I was happier minding my own business
