Fedorov Signs; Leonsis Blogs About 'Spirit Squad'
I've heard that some fans have worried themselves sick over the team's delay in announcing the signing of center Sergei Fedorov. Well, worry no more. It's official. He is signed, sealed and delivered, according to the Caps.
Also, majority owner Ted Leonsis has blogged an explanation of the team's plans for a 'Capitals Spirit Squad.' Seems like some folks flipped out over the prospect of ice girls/cheerleaders dancing around Verizon Center during breaks in the action at games. According to Leonsis, that's not going to happen. The Spirit Squad, he writes, won't be scantily-clad ice girls.
Contrary to some of the email I have received, we most certainly will continue with our popular Mites on Ice and our Ice Kids programs. Both of these youth hockey initiatives have been extremely well received and will remain an integral part of our games. The Spirit Squad - just like its predecessor, the entertainment team - will be a complement to those and other game presentation activities.
The squad's appearance will be stylish and first rate as they will represent the Washington Capitals at many events. This is a group designed to help us continue to Rock the Red year-round.

One more thing: The Caps' preseason schedule could be released any minute now, while the regular season schedule is due out later this week, likely on Thursday.
