First Period Obervations
Three observations from the first period, which ended tied 1-1.
1) Who knew Donald Brashear had goal-scorer hands?
2) So far, it's been every bit as physical as we thought it would be.
3) The Caps' defense absolutely must do a better job of clearing out the crease. Cristobal Huet is really good, but he can't stop shots he can't see.
Thoughts?

Totally agree about clearing the front of the goal.

My thoughts too, Tarik. (And thanks for the awesome job!) There was at least one Cap contributing to the screen of Huet on the Flyers goal. No one seems to be hesitating at throwing the body around. Oh, and a sweet goal from Brash.
Let's go Caps!!

Mauree is my Game 1 MVP for providing the link for me to watch the game in the middle of the night in England.

Agree.
And how about that Brash beard... even more scary lol
Posted by: mauree | April 11, 2008 7:53 PM | Report abuse
@ Dave UK
You are the MVP for being up in the middle of the night to watch the game.
Posted by: CT Caps Fan | April 11, 2008 7:55 PM | Report abuse
I thought we always knew Brash had good hands, just not necessarily the quick feet necessary to use them in a goal scoring capacity. ;-)
We need to pick up the intensity in the second. We came out flying, but the goal they scored pushed a couple of people on their heels.
Fedorov's no look pass in the defensive zone was scary...

anybody else finding Comcast HD a bit "choppy"? reg comcast is fine. of all times!!

@ mauree,
Oh the beards. The beards have (until now) possibly been my favorite part of the playoffs. Now I've got the Caps to root for and beards have taken a backseat.
@ dave, I agree with CT. You and the Russians get major fan cred for being up at...1 am?

CT,
I can't compete with Mauree - he's in Italy so it's an hour later there. Its 2am for him already!
Lets Go Caps, come on boys!!

Period 2 keys - score and destroy

@Dave
I don't live in Italy :D. I did stay up when I was there for a handful of games - especially one that ended at 4, and I had work at 8 lol.

Just noticed Philly coach Stevens wearing a red tie. Is he Rocking the Red??
Posted by: tess | April 11, 2008 8:04 PM | Report abuse
I agree mauree,
They're just sitting there and yelling occasionally. At first I thought they had just turned down the audio feed, but they really are that quiet.
Argh! I'd be yelling if I was there!

SWEET. That was CRUCIAL
Posted by: Scott | April 11, 2008 8:08 PM | Report abuse
Wow, what a shot from Davey!
Great the way he pulled up on the chase to the puck and made that few yards of space for himself.
Our fourth line is killing them!!

Joe B and Locker were just saying that Biron is a bit lazy and slow with his glove hand.

Oops, 8:08 was me. And I meant to say that he'd been that way tonight, not in the past.

Bruce need to do something smart with the lines (in terms of time-changing) - Philly is shutting AO too well.
Posted by: mauree | April 11, 2008 8:11 PM | Report abuse
Ok Mauree, guess I win MVP then!
Posted by: Dave UK Caps Fan | April 11, 2008 8:15 PM | Report abuse
Will Mike Green please calm down? I realize standing up for yourself and your teammates, but penalties aren't good unless they're for us.
Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | April 11, 2008 8:18 PM | Report abuse
Green needs to clear the front of the goal. He was in front on the Philly goal

Darn it Briere.

I would just like one (1) Caps game where there isn't an embarassing and costly defensive breakdown for no apparent reason. Sigh.
Posted by: Kip | April 11, 2008 8:23 PM | Report abuse
No!! Spearing midget with an ugly mug.

Bruce needs to call a timeout and calm the boys down. They have lost the flow that they had early in the game.
Posted by: tess | April 11, 2008 8:24 PM | Report abuse
whats with the VS broadcasters homering for philly anyway, i thought this was supposed to be a neutral broadcast
Posted by: renstar | April 11, 2008 8:25 PM | Report abuse
Kip,
Two defensive breakdowns in under a minute.
AO hasn't been a factor YET. That cannot last forever.
Posted by: Dave UK Caps Fan | April 11, 2008 8:25 PM | Report abuse
Still a long way to play, but we've got to grab the momentum back.
Posted by: Matt | April 11, 2008 8:29 PM | Report abuse
I think this is where I start crying...
No!! Must have hope!! Let's go Caps!!
Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | April 11, 2008 8:31 PM | Report abuse
this is bad
Posted by: czechsmix | April 11, 2008 8:31 PM | Report abuse
Yeah, I agree on the timeout call. If they don't get settled down RIGHT FREAKING NOW, this is going to get real embarassing, real quick.
Posted by: Kip | April 11, 2008 8:33 PM | Report abuse
They seem a bit sleepy... this is the playoffs boys WAKE THE ^&(*%& UP enough with the turnovers.
Posted by: mauree | April 11, 2008 8:33 PM | Report abuse
jmu,
Got any spare tissues?
Next goal is massive. This is where the team need the VC crowd into it.
Posted by: Dave UK Caps Fan | April 11, 2008 8:33 PM | Report abuse
Well folks, there's a heck of a storm rolling through my area. Because I don't want to be electrocuted, I'm going to sign off. I'll be on when it passes.
Caps, I still believe! Remember Atlanta? We can do that again!
Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | April 11, 2008 8:33 PM | Report abuse
OV does not have a shot on goal. We need him to step it up. We also need to stop taking stupid penalties.
Posted by: Acworth Eddie | April 11, 2008 8:39 PM | Report abuse
@renstar: Not that it means anything, but the broadcasters are the Carolina broadcasters. Bitter much? :-P
I hate their broadcasters "Cam Ward says no" is one of the phrases I hate more than anything, and he's adapting it to both goalies here.
Posted by: Raber | April 11, 2008 8:48 PM | Report abuse
ok we need the next goal
Steckel is playing great
flash is useless SIT HIS A SS
he drags his 2 linemates down by floating
come on caps

fehr next game not flash? i cant watch the game 2nite. just check in on scores. but that was something i was thinking about this afternoon and really all season and this summer (meaning as soon as fehr got healthy, replace flash). other opinions? like i said, i can't see 2nite's game.

Thoughts? Poti's still looking for his jock after he got embarassed out there.
The only Capital who clears the crease is Erskine. Maybe he could give the other boys lessons, because they need it.
