Gartner Tribute

Here's the Mike Gartner tribute video that was played on the jumbotron at Verizon Center before his No. 11 jersey was retired.

And here is the full pregame ceremony.

Nice win for the Caps on Gartner night.

Don't know the Leafs' shots on goal, but has Theodore finally found his footing? Three goals against in the last two games.

theo looked good - BB will go with him while he's hot. 2 more games like this (1 goal) and he can get his GAA under 3. could we call him three-or-less then?

rw-c: he stopped 23 of 24 (95.8%)

I hope Bradley is ok. That made my heart flinch.

JT may finally be getting his act together. He still overplays his first block too much, but getting much better.

OV is in a class all by himself -- 2 hits, a post, and the gwg. What a shift.

Laich had a beauty of a game.

My prayers are with Bradley.

A great win on a night the Caps remembered one of the best. Thank you for the childhood memories Garts. #11 forever.

A solid effort by the team to follow up the ceremony. A good win - on to Buffalo.

Ice Breakers. Goal Shakers.

Just got home - slow start but a great end! :-) Glad to see Jose playing better. I must say, I still hold my breath with him ... I hope he continues to play strong so I don't keep worrying when we are up by two. Anyway, it was a great and it is wonderful to see another number in the rafters - yeah for the original MG!! :-)

Got back also, some other thoughts/questions:

Did TV show the Steckel thing, and whether or not it was a high stick?

The 2nd leading shot taker for the Caps? Jurcina. Good game all around.

I could have sworn the shot OV missed just before getting the goal was one he connected on in mid-air, but the beer was flowing pretty well then.

Anyone have the number to Pothier's brain doctor? Bradley's gonna need him after that spill.

Overall, it was nice to get the win, but it was the classic scenario when a tribute is done, the home team who has to sit on the bench gets cold, and takes awhile to find their legs. Take the other 2 points Tuesday at Buffalo and get the mo going.

That was a well-deserved win. We did have a slow start, but once we got a goal, that was all we needed to light the fires and get the game going.

And the Gartner ceremony was very cool, too. :-)

But - WHAT THE HELL on the diving penalties?! I didn't see the one on Theodore clearly; my view was from the same corner where it happened, but diving -AND- tripping called, and a second diving -AND- interference? What's up with that?!

@Section117 - Good point on the team getting cold sitting on the bench. That makes sense, and explains the slow start to a large degree.

708 goals and that's the best highlights they could assemble? You could put a JOe Sacco highlight reel together that looked better than that.

...and they pulled out all the stops and got Wes Jarvis to speak.

Yeah, the ceremony was kind of on the fail side of things. To be fair though, Gartner playoff highlights are tough to find.

Thank you, I'll be here all week!

Thanks for the memories Garts!
Congratulation.

Now to get Dino night.
