Green Has MRI

GM George McPhee just confirmed that defenseman Mike Green had an MRI exam on his injured right shoulder earlier today. But McPhee said the results of that exam won't be known until after the game (doctors are studying the images right now).

Green was hurt when he was checked by Anaheim defenseman Chris Pronger in last night's 6-4 win at Honda Center. Green lost his balance after Pronger delivered the high hit behind the goal, which sent him hurtling into the end boards early in the first period.

Green did not return to the game and did not skate this morning.

whoa, GMGM admitted that a player had a medical procedure? did he actually say it was on his shoulder? i'm frankly surprised he confirmed that mike green plays for the Caps. a new era of openness...

Posted by: dcsportsfan1 | November 20, 2008 9:25 PM | Report abuse

If it's a rotator cuff injury the shoulder is never quite the same. Fairly common, but not career/performance threatening.

Posted by: austinsteve | November 20, 2008 9:40 PM | Report abuse

Here's hoping nothing too serious, although it could still be a long time healing.

Let us know, Tarik.

Posted by: kittypawz | November 20, 2008 9:49 PM | Report abuse

let's just hope its a bad bruise.

Posted by: goskinsgo | November 20, 2008 9:54 PM | Report abuse

austinsteve,

Yikes, don't say rotator cuff stuff bro. Remember Calle Jo was taken off the line for some time and I don't think he really was the same after that hit in Boston.

I'm hopin' Green is just abit sore and nothing less. We are winning now but if Semin, Feds, and Green were to be out in Feb-March, that would be well, substantial.

Needless to say, I'd rather have them all back and us be whinning about unfair scratches and such ya know?

austinsteve,
Hope so bro.

At least we got that first shot-goal monkey off our back tonight. Geez...

Posted by: KurtNYC | November 20, 2008 10:56 PM | Report abuse

Except Johnnie's sharp...might steal one

Posted by: meagle | November 20, 2008 11:00 PM | Report abuse

Really, no kidding. Hope we don't get a few on us to wake us up. This is where the coaches and the captains need to step in and make some noise.

Posted by: BernieWolfeFan | November 20, 2008 11:00 PM | Report abuse

definitely a lack of effort tonight. Glad to see BJ bringing his 'A' game.

Posted by: goskinsgo | November 20, 2008 11:03 PM | Report abuse

Going to be a really, really long night.

Posted by: KurtNYC | November 20, 2008 11:04 PM | Report abuse

what in the hell is going on?

I'm watching the NHL.com gamecenter thing (which mostly blows, btw).

How are we getting dominated like this?

Posted by: large23220 | November 20, 2008 11:06 PM | Report abuse

I'm sure Ovie feels like $#!+ so hopefully he redeems himself with a few, or more.

Yeah, we do look tired.

Posted by: BernieWolfeFan | November 20, 2008 11:07 PM | Report abuse

That's one Humpty Dumpty reference.

Posted by: Section117 | November 20, 2008 11:11 PM | Report abuse

dump and chase on PP. Are you serious?

Posted by: large23220 | November 20, 2008 11:12 PM | Report abuse

we just got dominated. kings have a good PK unit.. hopefully we can step it up in the 2nd..

Posted by: diehardcapsfan | November 20, 2008 11:14 PM | Report abuse

large23220,
My point exactly. We look really tired.

Posted by: BernieWolfeFan | November 20, 2008 11:15 PM | Report abuse

I'm watching on a feed from justing.tv. it's an LA feed. They love to talk about OV.

Posted by: Greg S. | November 20, 2008 11:16 PM | Report abuse

@sec 117--- that 'All the kings men' comment was an instant classic.

Almost as good as the 'produce' comment from yesterday

Posted by: goskinsgo | November 20, 2008 11:16 PM | Report abuse

3 shots none even strength lol

Posted by: wendel2 | November 20, 2008 11:18 PM | Report abuse

David Lee deserves a double minor for his outfit, and the tie gets a game misconduct.

Posted by: Section117 | November 20, 2008 11:19 PM | Report abuse

The kings are looking sharp tonight. Their Defense is very disruptive to the Caps attack. Additional note - the ice there in LA looks terrible. Lots of players slipping/losing an edge - even the linesman lost his edge. Puck is moving very slow on the ice and passes look terrible. This could be a slow & painful game.

Posted by: migz | November 20, 2008 11:20 PM | Report abuse

Seems like our boys resting a bit after yesterday's great game. Plus they might be not as motivated.

Posted by: mauree | November 20, 2008 11:21 PM | Report abuse

"right in the produce section"

Did Beninati make that up? I've never heard that before. He should be doing stand up.

poor Tampa. tortarella was a good coach. ifthe trade was happening with the caps, nylander would be out of the lineup, no?

Posted by: oo7 | November 21, 2008 12:23 AM | Report abuse

Where's the top line? Seems just like the 3rd and 4th lines so far

Posted by: JIMALLCAPS | November 21, 2008 12:25 AM | Report abuse

oo7, the nice part of me says "Not too much longer, I hope. Poor guy." However, the semi-malicious part of me that hates Melrose says "All season, please!"

Please not that trade. Not that my vote counts, but I vote no. Not a fan of Byfuglien or Sopel.

Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | November 21, 2008 12:25 AM | Report abuse

I keep reading all these Nylander-for-Byfuglien trade rumors [and it's pronounced Buflin, in case you didn't know]and I don't know what I think of it. I saw Byfuglien play two seasons when Norfolk was Chicago's farm team. He was one of those guys you hated to play against but would probably love to have on your team. He doesn't score a ton of goals, but you kind of held your breath when you saw him hanging out near the crease. He plays very physical and is kind of an agitator. I'm not sure where he'd fit in our lineup, which line I'd put him on.

Posted by: natty-bumppo | November 21, 2008 12:32 AM | Report abuse

melrose is an idiot. now he's lost his gig at espn too I know nothing about byfuglin, but those two players don't solve our cap issue, unless it's multi team deal in the works.

Posted by: oo7 | November 21, 2008 12:33 AM | Report abuse

so where did nylander go? he kind of, in, disappeared.

Posted by: oo7 | November 21, 2008 1:00 AM | Report abuse

We lost to a very good team.

I don't worry about Ovie doing something stupid and getting suspended. I worry about him getting seriously hurt with the way he throws his body around sometimes very recklessly.

Posted by: tess2201 | November 21, 2008 1:01 AM | Report abuse

the kings beat us fair and square tonight BUT i'm 100% tired of Clark. Nothing needs to be said, I think most of us see it. Our actual captain blocked two shots with his hands and scored with 4 mins left to give us ALL the mo...until Clark took his latest braindead backbreaking penalty. His utility on this team has oficially sunsetted.

Posted by: MTB7 | November 21, 2008 1:06 AM | Report abuse

Thank the lord Nylander is gone after tonight. Enjoy the Windy City

Posted by: terpcap6 | November 21, 2008 1:10 AM | Report abuse

As much as losing Nylanders contract might improve our cap situation, I don't think the Chicago players are the solution. 4.875 million for 5.3 million doesn't seem like that much of a deal to me, no matter how awful Nyls appears to be playing. Maybe there's another team involved? If it does happen, I pray that there's another team involved.
