Green Update

After an overnight delay in Cincinnati (don't ask) I finally arrived in snowy Raleigh, just in time for today's morning skate.

The first player I sought out was injured defenseman Mike Green, who is still on crutches but is cautiously optimistic that his left foot isn't as bad as first thought.

"I don't think it would be getting better this quick if it was broken," said Green, who is scheduled for a second X-ray this afternoon. I'll be sure to provide an update when the results are in.

Coach Hanlon was more careful about his standout rookie.

"I don't think we should be too positive about those types of injuries," he said. "It was the same with Muir and Erskine. They skated the next day. They tried to play. Just because he's walking on it doesn't mean there's any reason for celebration."

Green is the third Capitals defenseman and fourth member of the organization to suffer a foot injury in recent weeks. In addition to Muir and Erskine (each of whom have missed about a month with a broken foot), the club's manager of media relations, Nate Ewell, also has a broken foot.

When asked about his injury, Ewell responded: "It's lower body, day-to-day".

I'm pretty sure he was joking.

One person who shall remain nameless quipped, "What? Was he running too fast with the game notes?"

In other news -- I meant to bring this to you sooner but forgot -- a representative from Reebok came to Ballston last week to fit the Caps with the controversial form-fitting uniforms the NHL plans to unveil in Dallas next week. Some of the Caps, if not all of them, are going to try them out in practice in the near future.

Before you ask, the jerseys were plain white, so I've got no scoop on new color schemes, although I would be somewhat surprised if the team doesn't make a change before next season.

And finally, the goalie matchup is expected to be Olie Kolzig vs. John Grahame.

Changing jersey's again? Can't establish
ANY tradition when you change things up like bitty women.

We FINALLY got a hockey jersey with a LOGO and more changes are on the horizon.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

We need to focus on changing our mediocrity rather than changing uni's
everytime theres a trend.

Yep. Glad I just spent $149 on the home black Caps jersey.

Folks, I've got no specific news on new unis. But if you take these two bits of info -- the league is making a change in style of jerseys, plus recent rumblings about the Caps changing colors -- it would only make sense for them to make a change during the offseason, right?

Um... Sabres Anyone?

They seem to be doing just fine in sales/tradition talk having switched from the Classic to the Breathing Beast and now to the Toupe.... wait..

If they change colors, they need to go back to the Red white and blue, or don't bother changing.

although I REALLY like the black jersey

Bitty women?

Usually I ignore you, but I cant this time. Instead of insulting and degrading women, why dont you post a comment about your feelings regarding the new jersey WITHOUT insulting an entire gender.

I dont hold you against men everywhere.

Stoked to hear the Caps will likely be revamping the uni colors/logo. Bring back the RWB color scheme!

HI CAPHCKY!

Possible new unis eh? Red white and blue with the current dome logo sounds good. Lets dump the eagle though...

THE TRADITION CONTINUES...............

To Whom is insulted:
Why don't you grow a pair and sign your name rather than flapping your lips like Rosie!

I understand the league is changing the uniforms to be slimmer and more modern. Unless new uniforms brings an additional 20 wins please don't humor us. If they want to tweak anything how about the padding in the D's skates, Please!

We have traditon, it is Red, White, and Blue. Go back to the basic colors. I hate their jersey. How can you play in the Nations Capitol, and have black and teal jersey. IT IS ABOUT TIME.

I don't give a rat's behind about the color, but they sure as hell better keep the Capitol Dome logo. It's one of the best in pro sports.................

Tarik-
Heard you on xm 204 yesterday. One comment you made was Hanlon is very funny, and many of his quotes are not pc to make it into the paper. Any chance you can put them on this very blog?

Hey, what was up with the Carolina fans stealing Horn Guy's bit?

"One person who shall remain nameless..."

That has to be Kolbe.

What is most shocking about the new jersey is the price tag ($400+). I guess space age polyester has gotten really expensive.

PS
If they have to change go RWB with the dome! Otherwise keep the current colors. No postal chicken or Cap'stick'al.

I'll come to "blank's" defense - since no one else has. Caphcky, we've dispatched with jerks from Pittsburgh and Buffalo in this space - they're not welcome here. But you're a Cap fan, so we want to like you. Show some class.

Man, I come over from the Wizards blog & its all sophisticated statistical based conversation over there. You have a guy who uses the the word "bitty" & it makes you see why hockey doesn't get the attention it deserves/

Posted by: Victor | January 19, 2007 11:40 PM | Report abuse

Not Kolbe.

say-yon-ara Tokoyo son!

I typed an opinion that was my own and I don't take anything back.

I realize that the change is LEAGUE directed, but that just proves my theory as to why the NHL will NEVER be a major sports league and will ALWAYS be behind MLB. NBA, NFL.

The NHL changes on a whim.

O NO....i want you to like me....ROFLMAO
