First.

How did they get here? Defense, goaltending, and gritty forward play.

Montreal got there just by playing well. Also, Crosby's a good player but he just can't show up for the big games.

Against Montreal Ovechkin had twice the number of points and 5 times as many goals as Crosby did. Had Crosby been on the Caps, he would have ranked 17th on the squad in +/- against the Habs.

Ovechkin, though, 5 goals 5 assists, 10 pts, plus 5

It's pretty simple...They wanted it more.

I wish WP could send Tarik to Germany. Ovi, Varly, Semin and former players Fedorov, Kozlov, Gonchar are playing for team Russia.

I think the Caps wanted the Cup as much as either of these, probaly more, but I think they EXPECTED to win the first round. Hopefully they have learned, and Bruce has learned that he needs to address AND correct this mindset.

Geez,2 tough physical teams that earned it. Not feeling annointed.

Sounds like Backstrom signing to be announced soon!

My guess for Backstrom: 7yrs @ 6.5 million per!

"It's pretty simple...They wanted it more."

I'll go a different direction.

They were able to "finish." Both took thier teams to game 7's so it came down to one lousy game.

Ovie said they were "over-confident" and I think that's fair.

I don't think it was a coincidense that when the Caps scored they put people in front of the net. Knuble was the only person doing so. They just need to be more physical, that and get another top defenseman.

They have too many holes in thier defense.
