GO CAPS!!!

Free Brooks! Oh wait...

Posted by: Fro_ | March 24, 2010 1:44 PM | Report abuse

Has the lineup for tonight been released? I didn't see anything about it. Mainly wondering about the 2nd and 3rd lines with Laich out. I'd think 1st and 4th would be Ovie/Backs/Knuble and Laing/Steckel/Brads. 2nd will be Semin/Bmo and who? Flash, Chimera, or Fehr? With the other two being on the 3rd with Belanger, I'd assume. I hope they put Flash on the 3rd line. I think Semin/BMo/Flash would be a bit soft.

Yes! The live chat is backkkk!! GO CAPSSSSSSSS!

Very sad Brooksie has his games played streak ruined... Bad Carlson.

Posted by: rachel216 | March 24, 2010 2:34 PM | Report abuse

I don't think the 2nd line would be best with 28 and 14 on the wings. I like net presence on all the lines so I'd prefer to see either 16 of 25 on the wing for lines 2 and 3.

8/19/22
16/9/28
25/18/14
53/30/10

I don't have a huge pref on the centers at lines 2 and 3. I wouldn't mind seeing 25 on the second line and putting 14 and 16 back together on 3. Man, this team is deep.

413 is ready to roll tonight.

This has to be the earliest time of day I have seen the chat posted.

Have the line-ups been posted?

DO I HAVE ENOUGH BEER? THIS IS ALL HAPPENING TO FAST!

I figured they only had one more chat left in the budget for this month and was waiting for THIS game!

Can someone please tell me the site to see the game live tonight. I’m in Huntsville on travel and CSN Washington is not available in this area.

I know it’s kindda early but I am excited and don’t want to miss the action.

Posted by: instinct227 | March 24, 2010 3:06 PM | Report abuse

As long as you are out of the area, you can watch it on NHL-Network tonight for free.

Try that link for the game

@ Richmondphil

Thanks for the info - the Westin does not carry the NHL-Network, I did see Versus however.

@ SA-Town
Thanks for the site.

saintex: Only because Fehr (I believe) has never played LW, and because Flash is primarily a LW, it's my guess they'd have Chimera with Semin and Flash with Fehr.

Little League practice to end at 6:45PM this evening.

I do not like the Pens, Sam I am
I do not like them on the ice,
I do not like them with the mice.
I do not like them in the zone
I do not like them all alone.
I did not like them as a pup,
and I do not like them with a cup.
I do not like those Pens, Sam I am.

You can watch it on a computer online, through the NHL-Network for free. On NHL.com I beleive.

I thought so at least?

I would check adthe.net, justin.tv, or the one SA_Town posted if the NHL-Network isn't online for free.

Posted by: richmondphil | March 24, 2010 3:34 PM | Report abuse

Oh, and Malkin is out.

Channelsurfing.net is also a good one. But they may just use the Justin.tv feed. Not positive.

joe corvo is such a puss just letting matt cooke have his way in our crease, our goalie had to skate out to clear cooke, ridiculous. I hope Corvo ends up with a case of the swine flu so he never plays here again. I can't stand how he plays defense in the crease, just an utter puss

the only defenseman we have willing to be physical is the one everyone wants to trade and thats Mo.

If we could ever match the Penguins grit we'd be better off for it. No matter if they win or lose a game, their work ethic and grit is usually always present.

I think having Laich out really hurts us, he drives a lot of that intensity for us with the way he crashes the crease and boards.

Posted by: cstanton1 | March 24, 2010 7:56 PM | Report abuse

Carlson-Mo - our best D pair.

Posted by: cstanton1 | March 24, 2010 7:59 PM | Report abuse

damn straight crash that net Knuble!

Posted by: cstanton1 | March 24, 2010 8:00 PM | Report abuse

blame that goal on Corvo, getting caught up ice, losing the puck and then getting back late. YU SUCK CORVO!

Posted by: cstanton1 | March 24, 2010 8:02 PM | Report abuse

another shtty shift by jose cuervo, he can't push anyone off that puck, Flash could play better D than that putz

Posted by: cstanton1 | March 24, 2010 8:06 PM | Report abuse

Corvo on the ice again for goal #2. Pathetic show of defense there on that play by both defensemen and Corvo has no idea what the f to do in that situation. He just flops down like a fish.

Posted by: cstanton1 | March 24, 2010 8:26 PM | Report abuse

hey cstanton1, what do you think of joe corvo?

Posted by: thickman22 | March 24, 2010 8:36 PM | Report abuse

I don't sense that our guys are playing with their normal level of intensity/emotion.

We haven't played too badly but Theodore kept us in the game in the first period.

Let's see if Boudreau can light a fire under the players heading into the third.

We have to match the Penguins' physical play.

Posted by: tmac2yao | March 24, 2010 8:39 PM | Report abuse

Corvo stink on the 2nd goal.

Posted by: instinct227 | March 24, 2010 8:44 PM | Report abuse

And I feel like a broken record but Fleischmann could have almost 10 more goals this season if he could remain composed on his scoring chances.

I didn't clearly see the opportunity he had in this game because of the camera angle but he seems to have shanked or fallen down on twice as many open net chances than any other player on the team.

Posted by: cstanton1 | March 24, 2010 9:23 PM | Report abuse

Staal should net get that wide open twice in a row.

The Penguins are so deep up the middle.

It's hard to believe that there 3rd line center was drafted ahead of our 1st line center.

Posted by: tmac2yao | March 24, 2010 9:27 PM | Report abuse

dont want to gush but I have never seen Flash, Fehr or BMo play with this kind of determination, ever

Chimera needs to pick up his intensity, he's skating hard but avoiding all the battles along the boards. With his frame and power he could be dominating on the forecheck.

Posted by: cstanton1 | March 24, 2010 9:31 PM | Report abuse

Crosby's gettin abused tonite

first the big hit by Carlson then he just got mauled by ShaMo with a clean hit and then a late elbow behind the play, loveit!

Posted by: cstanton1 | March 24, 2010 9:33 PM | Report abuse

should have ended in regulation.

Posted by: thickman22 | March 24, 2010 9:35 PM | Report abuse

At least we didn't scored on 4-on-4.

We had a couple of great chances, including that great flip move by Ovechkin.

It's up to Theo to steal this SO.

Posted by: tmac2yao | March 24, 2010 9:36 PM | Report abuse

even though we gave up that 3rd pd goal I think our team defense was really good in that 3rd. They didn't get hardly any quality scoring chances, we shut em down pretty good. Since about the 5 min mark of the 2nd pd we've really taken the play to them. ShaMo just got bumped up to the first defensive pairing w/his old partner Green.

Posted by: cstanton1 | March 24, 2010 9:36 PM | Report abuse

if BMo continues to play with this kind of pep in his game, I want to see him stay in the lineup. Laing had a solid game tonight too.

Posted by: cstanton1 | March 24, 2010 9:37 PM | Report abuse

for a team that scores so many goals, its weird how much we suck in shootouts

I rolled my eyes when I saw him going out there. There were 4 other skaters I would've picked before Knuble. Boudreau obviously knew something I didn't (as well he should!).

Not a pretty win, but neither is Laich's face right now... Get well soon Brooksie!

Posted by: tmac2yao | March 24, 2010 9:41 PM | Report abuse

maybe he went by feel. Some games certain players have a good rhythm and Knuble was Johnny on the spot all night.

That 1st pd and the start to the 2nd was shaky. I've given up expecting this team to play hard for 60 mins. It seems like they're due for one bad period every game but man did they pull it together for the 2nd half. Very impressive against a really good team even without Malkin. And the way guys like Flash and BMo stepped it up tonight, we didn't miss Laich that much expect maybe on the faceoffs.

I thought Chimera and Belanger could've played harder tonight. They were all about the skating but not about getting their noses dirty.

Posted by: cstanton1 | March 24, 2010 9:47 PM | Report abuse

Good come back by the Caps being down 1-3. Please don't do this in the next game.

Posted by: tmac2yao | March 24, 2010 9:44 PM | Report abuse

not me, i thought it was over. Letang and Crosby made some sick moves on JT. But then Guerin was awful on his attempt and that gave us a chance. Semin's was a sick move on that backhand.

Posted by: cstanton1 | March 24, 2010 9:49 PM | Report abuse

I actually thought Ovie would make it because everyone on the live chat was saying to bench him for the shootout. It was a reverse jinx that worked in our favor for a change.

Belanger seemed to be responsible for leaving Staal wide open on his goal. I have to see a full replay to be sure but that's how I saw it.

He made a couple of really nice backchecks and did seem to moving well out there but I don't remember much he did along the boards. He definitely seemed to be floating to space instead of being up in Staal's grill on Staal's goal.

I don't recall what Chimera did as far as mixing it up and stuff but he did seem hesitant on that one play to take the puck in on net when he had speed and a defenseman on his heels. I wonder if he's lost some confidence after coming up short on a few breakaways.

Posted by: tmac2yao | March 24, 2010 10:02 PM | Report abuse

ummm instinct227 what game were you watching we were down 2-1 but that was it.

I think Belenger had a good game especially his set up of the Fehr goal by moving the puck around the zone. I also remember him doing a good job on Stall a few times early in the game.

Definitely can't say I knew Ovie would score, just had a gut feeling. He has been ice cold in the shootout for a year or so now, but since it is Ovie I think you just keep sending him out there.

The Pens seem to make every effort to avoid getting hit even if it means losing the puck while the Caps man up and take the hit to keep puck possession...very good!

Refs tonight....very bad!!

Let's go CAPS!!!!!

What are the odds?
1. Being down in the 3rd period
2. Being down 2-0 in the shootout
3. Giving up 5 penalties to Pens 1

Apparently the Caps don't check the odds, they just win.

Caps can lock up the East tomorrow. Then we can start working on the President's Cup.

The Hart watch still favors Ovi over Crosby who didn't pick up any ground (both had one assist, Ovi added another +2 to Crosby's +1). Crosby has only 8 games left to Caps 9.
