The hit Ovechkin laid on Jagr was worth it all!

Posted by: kcbrichmond | February 21, 2010 5:39 PM | Report abuse

It's already on youtube! I could watch that 100 times!! That was, in the words of Ovie, SICK!!!!!

Posted by: rachel216 | February 21, 2010 5:43 PM | Report abuse

Don't forget about the actual goal that was scored just after Ovi's great hit to Jagr. Semin makes a pass to Malkin who scores!!

Posted by: CapsFan75 | February 21, 2010 5:45 PM | Report abuse

Semin's backhand pass to Malkin was excellent! I love Semin, so much.

Posted by: youaresquishy | February 21, 2010 5:55 PM | Report abuse

Such an amazing play.

I guess all that time away from the NHL has made Jagr forget to keep his head up when traveling through center ice like that.

Posted by: richmondphil | February 21, 2010 5:56 PM | Report abuse

@youaresquishy

Join the club -- for loving Semin.

There are so many people who criticize Semin for anything and everything.

Posted by: CapsFan75 | February 21, 2010 5:59 PM | Report abuse

oh geez, they had beter stop using the word miracle... it sure wouldn't be a miracle if the US beat Canada

Posted by: joek443 | February 21, 2010 6:02 PM | Report abuse

I love it when Ovechkin scores and all, but I'm not sure longtime Caps fans can imagine a cooler thing than seeing Ovechkin nailing Jagr at center ice to set up a brilliant Semin assist. What a play! (Tyutin's secondary assist, and the goal itself, were pretty good as well.)

By "a cooler thing" I mean "a cooler thing in the Olympics."

Posted by: youaresquishy | February 21, 2010 6:10 PM | Report abuse

anyone got a link for watching the us-canada game online? my cable just died.

Posted by: pwcpat | February 21, 2010 6:16 PM | Report abuse

A cooler thing would be USA winning?

I like the Caps players in the Olympics, but none of them are going to make me root against my home country.

Posted by: richmondphil | February 21, 2010 6:22 PM | Report abuse

I was also born in Germany, and am half Korean. I am also extremely liberal (lol).

And I still root for USA!

Posted by: richmondphil | February 21, 2010 6:27 PM | Report abuse

We get it, richmondphil.

You are a diehard Caps fan who just happens to be a diehard Kings fan and a diehard Kovalchuk fan... who loves to criticize Ovechkin (your first words on this blog after he got what looked like a season-ending injury were along the lines of "Ovechkin is an idiot"... sarcastic or not, meh...)

Hockey > Caps... blah, blah, blah...

Posted by: tmac2yao | February 21, 2010 6:36 PM | Report abuse

I apologize, in advance, richmondphil. I like a lot of your posts. You bring a lot of good insight to this blog.

I just had to get that off my chest...

Posted by: tmac2yao | February 21, 2010 6:38 PM | Report abuse

lol? This is coming from the guy who loves to write 234234 paragraphs about absolutely nothing in an attempt to make it seem like he knows something about hockey, and also from the guy who loves to spout male chauvinistic comments to stir things up?

We can do this back and forth all day.

Can you explain to me the logic of an American rooting against America? Please? Please.

Posted by: richmondphil | February 21, 2010 6:41 PM | Report abuse

I don't apologize. You want to attack me for absolutely no reason and try to extrapolate absurd inferences from nothing?...then go ahead.

At least I know not to take your comments seriously anymore.

Posted by: richmondphil | February 21, 2010 6:42 PM | Report abuse

Come on richmondphil and tmac2yao, it's time to hug it out. No more arguing over silly things.

Posted by: rachel216 | February 21, 2010 6:50 PM | Report abuse

can't they at least put a hockey or sports guy asking these questions on msnbc instead of some head who wouldn't know the difference between the red line and the blue lines?

Posted by: joek443 | February 21, 2010 6:59 PM | Report abuse

and stop with all this made-up rivalry between US and Canada in hockey... it's kinda ridiculous

Posted by: joek443 | February 21, 2010 7:02 PM | Report abuse

I assume it was observed here earlier that Milbury when asked by Al Michaels whether he preferred Crosby or Ovechkin took Ovechkin. My head almost exploded.

Posted by: ccCapsfan | February 21, 2010 7:09 PM | Report abuse

Let the games begin....

Posted by: JSchon | February 21, 2010 7:11 PM | Report abuse

ccCapsfan: yeah, Roenick and Milbury flip flopped... very strange. I still hate Milbury though. But is he trying to get back into the good graces of Caps fans??

Posted by: rachel216 | February 21, 2010 7:16 PM | Report abuse

The JR Milbury flip flop was very bizarre. Made me think that some of this stuff is manufactured for lively television.

But then again the question of "who's better" was asked before Ovi's big hit on Jagr leading directly to Semin's pass to Malkin for a sweet sweet goal. What a shift by that line!

Although I'm glad that Flash had a good game I still am delighted in the Russian win. Somehow having the Caps star player Ovi just level Jagr, of all players in Caps history, just makes good karma somehow.

Now if only the USA Canada matchup would start and curling (bleh) would end. I am so rooting for USA.

Posted by: Capsyoungguns | February 21, 2010 7:31 PM | Report abuse

anybody know of a good stream i can watch this on? I dont get msnbc and atdhe.net isnt working well

Posted by: ILikeLaich | February 21, 2010 8:26 PM | Report abuse

just go to nbcolympics.com and go to hockey and look for video and you'll see the Ovie clip.

Go Russia! Lol....

Seriously, why all the nationalism about sports? Is that really the point? I think not. I say let's celebrate greatness wherever it might be. As an example, it appears the figure skaters are more than happy to move around countries to make a team. All seems rather pointless to me at this point, we live in an international world.

Yousah!

Posted by: reedski524 | February 21, 2010 9:16 PM | Report abuse

How did Kesler score that goal? The Canadian guy had him totally cut off from the puck, and he STILL tapped it in. What a game, and what a win!

Posted by: timmyv38 | February 21, 2010 9:56 PM | Report abuse

now where is that Canadian-American business council commercial about the "biggest trading relationship, longest friendly border" and all that stuff?

Posted by: seantipton | February 21, 2010 10:01 PM | Report abuse

USA! USA! USA!

Been a great sunday. First the Russia-Czech match-up. Now this USA-Canada game. Too bad I probably wont be awake for the Sweden-Finland game.

Posted by: elicea | February 21, 2010 10:05 PM | Report abuse

Great hockey game and NBC was worried that it would be too much of a time sink to have on the main channel after hyping it all day and having a half an hour dedicated to the Miracle on Ice this afternoon.

Posted by: FusilliJerry1 | February 21, 2010 10:06 PM | Report abuse

Olympic coverage by NBC is the worse I've ever seen in my life.

Posted by: 45upnorth | February 21, 2010 10:07 PM | Report abuse

Why is Chris Collinsworth covering hockey?

Posted by: digster1013 | February 21, 2010 10:09 PM | Report abuse

@elicea

Great day on the hockey front for Caps fans everywhere.

1) Team Russia wins

2) The Hershey Bears win

3) Team USA wins.

Posted by: CapsFan75 | February 21, 2010 10:10 PM | Report abuse

I hate Crosby.
I luv America.
USA out hit, out scrumbed, out skated the Canadian to every loose puck.

Play four crosby...you will ache in May during the playoffs.

Posted by: Rocc00 | February 21, 2010 10:10 PM | Report abuse

But guys, Ice Dancing is so much more important than what was one of the most exciting Hockey games of this Olympics.

Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | February 21, 2010 10:10 PM | Report abuse

@ CapsFan75

Ah, yes. Forgot about the Hershey win. Truly been a spectacular day.

B-L-O-W C-A-N-A-D-A!!

Opened up one tall kickin' can of STFU!!

Arrogant mother puckers....the US plays hockey too....pisants

Wow, that game was incredible! I'm still getting over the nerves.

Team USA took a couple of bad penalties after getting that 2 goal lead. Kane's was particularly bad and untimely.

Miller was incredible as was Rafalski among several others.

Sweden's up next.

Go USA! Go Russia! Go Sweden! Go Czech Republic!

Posted by: tmac2yao | February 21, 2010 10:13 PM | Report abuse

NBC doesn't show the game on prime time is the biggest blunder so far of these Olympics.
There is nothing worthy today to save for primetime! Not Bode.
Not even the hot Tanith Belbin even if she had no clothes on.

Geesh.

Posted by: Rocc00 | February 21, 2010 10:13 PM | Report abuse

ok - now I have to let my gf watch ice dancing.
Go Tanith Belbin!

Posted by: Rocc00 | February 21, 2010 10:15 PM | Report abuse

Great job NBC. Are you going to have the super bowl on MSNBC? Lousy, lousy coverage!!! This is our country going against Canada and they have ice dancing on prime time NBC. What the????

Take a look at the Toronto Globe and Mail website and view the comments on their game coverage. Babcock is getting crucified for his line match ups and Marty seems to be on Babcock's bad side now. Wouldn't be surprised if Luongo started their next game. I love it! It's finally getting interesting.

Posted by: ExPatYankee | February 22, 2010 2:25 AM | Report abuse

Everyone, everyone:

It's all about commercials. Having the game on MSNBC allowed them to not show any commercials during the game. If it were on NBC, they would have missed portions of the game because of commercials. It's all about selling time in prime time, and they can do that with ice dancing.

Posted by: Randy_Hawkins | February 22, 2010 9:58 AM | Report abuse

CapsFan75: The fact that you have Go Russia first on your list means that you love the Hammer and Sickle. Putin wants to sell you a tenement in downtown Novosibirsk.
