Updates on the injured Capitals

By Katie Carrera

Michal Neuvirth did not take part in Capitals' practice at RBC Center this afternoon but Coach Bruce Boudreau said it was more a precautionary move and the goaltender "should be fine for tomorrow according to [Washington's] training staff."

Wednesday morning we should know for sure if Neuvirth will be ready to go after tweaking a lower body part in the morning skate at New Jersey on Monday and if either Semyon Varlamov or Braden Holtby will be sent to the Hershey Bears.

>> Mike Green skated and said he's "not feeling good" and that it's something that has bothered him in the past but wouldn't elaborate on what forced him to miss the second half of the third period Monday. Boudreau said he expects Green will play against Carolina and that "the strength and everything is there; he's sore." Green said he had "no idea" if he would play Wednesday.

>> The other player on the trip who did not take part in practice was Tyler Sloan, and Boudreau said that the defenseman probably won't play against the Hurricanes on Wednesday night here.

Tom Poti is "real close" to returning according to Boudreau so he may be in the mix, but the Capitals could always choose to recall a defenseman or perhaps even play Brooks Laich on the blue line like they did in practice today. Although, Boudreau didn't make the last option listed seem like much more than a practice session move.

"When we wanted to have practice the only thought process that I had was making sure we had at least 12 forwards and six defensemen, so we could do the drills properly," Boudreau said. "And Mike [Green], we didn't know if he was going to go out and practice or what so we put Brooksie there as a precautionary thing which would have made the six D and the 12 forwards."

>> A few folks have asked about Mike Knuble's status. Knuble isn't on this trip after he took a puck to the face against Atlanta last Friday.

As bad as Tyler Sloan has been playing, it will be a relief to see him out of the line up. He makes the rest of the Caps D corps look like the Great Wall of China.

The Flyers barely made the playoffs last year and went to the cup..The Penguins fired their coach and won the cup later that year..does any of this mini slump/ injuries matter? No...get me to April.

1...2...3...4...5 it's all your (Holtby's) fault!

I don't understand why people are so upset at other guys on the team when the chant tells us its just the goalie's fault.

BTW, this is the worst chant ever and ranks up there with the 'Who cares' one.

How does Varly arrive without skates? Assume coming from Hershey to NJ he would take private limo and carry his gear?

@derk45

agree with the goalie fault chant. I think it's lame.

Everyone is flipping out over these two losses. Disconcerting, a little, but can we just focus on April/May. I think Caps fans are starting to get a little spoiled with the regular season success we've had the past few years. Lets wait until April/May before everyone starts to criticize everyone.

COMPLETELY AGREE.....That is the dumbest chant ever.

The "all your fault" chant has a long history in the game, especially in college. Live with it.

Green has a hurt right leg/ankle. I was at the game and was watching him behind the play. He tried to pivot while skating backward, took an odd move with his right foot/leg, then skated directly to bench and int locker room.

@old timer hockey

That's odd, with such deep rooted history I should hear this chant in other arena's, but I don't.

Each person enjoys the game in their own way and I have no problem with that. I think the consensus here is that the chant just makes no sense.

Let's just hope it is not a monthly issue.

@derk45

Disagree in that I think I the "Who Cares?" chant is worse. Nothing upsets me more than when the score just went from 2-2 to 2-3 and to hear a bunch of fans yell "Who Cares?" I CARE! I care that we're now losing...
