The Caps were one of the healthiest teams in the NHL through the first two months of the season. That's no longer true.
They'll probably face the Devils tomorrow without at least one player, but possibly more, because of a recent rash of injuries.
Today, the Caps practiced without forwards Chris Clark, Brashear, Matt Bradley and defensemen John Erskine and Bryan Muir. And don't forget they are already without Richard Zednik (abdominal surgery) for the next month or so.
Call-ups from Hershey are likely. I'm thinking winger Alexandre Giroux and defenseman Jeff Schultz.
Clark's injury, which team officials did not disclose, is not believed to be serious and he'll probably suit up for the Jersey game. Bradley, who has already missed five games, recently underwent surgery to repair a broken finger on his left hand. He's going to miss about a month, I'm told.
As for everyone else, well, that's pretty much anyone's guess. I would say Brashear and Muir are questionable with undisclosed injuries while Erskine, who took a shot off the foot Saturday, is unlikely to play. The training staff probably won't know the status of those guys until the morning.
I hope to have more in tomorrow's paper.
