Johnson Hurts Hip

Goalie Brent Johnson doesn't think the injury he suffered in the first period is too serious. He injured his left hip while kicking out his pad as the Caps killed off a 5-on-3 'Canes power play.

"It felt pretty bad out there, but it's tough to tell right now," Johnson said. "It's pretty sore. I felt a lot of pain. We'll see how it feels tomorrow, but it's not looking like it will be a long time."

Jose Theodore, meantime, came in and stopped all 13 shots and was awarded the hardhat.

And not so cool on Johnson. That almost guarantees Theodore the start on Friday, I'm guessing. We'll see what happens.

Thanks for the update, Tarik. And now, nightynight.

I thought he gotten hurt earlier then they were saying on t.V. When they were killing the penalty he looks like he was hurt or dead tired. He went down and could hardly get back up. Great game!

Good. Wonder if he might even be able to get in for one of the New Jersey games

Hope Johnson heals up soon. Glad to see JT play so well; hope he keeps it up. Now go vote for OV, Semin, and Green to be in the AllStar game

Erm, hard hat to theo? Clark is very strange with this award. I understand he stepped in suddenly and played well, but Semin got a career high in points and virtually won the game for us.

I think Johnny is going to get a rep as the hard luck kid. He started playing well a few seasons ago and then got hurt. I remember vividly him skating off and breaking his stick on the exit door.

I don't think he's a long term number one. But, I also think he's an underrated #2.

Hard hat is generally for the 'unsung' hero of the game, as I remember it from Calgary. You could have given that thing to half the team tonight.

(Repeat from previous thread)

Warning to the rest of the league: Ovie is BACK!!! (his goal was vintage Ovie!)

MVP, this year's model: Semin!!
(he nearly has as many assists as Cindy "Secondary Assist Leader" Crosby.

And I agree: those comments about Semin's English were nitpicking. He's 24 and his focus is hockey - not trying to become bilingual. Gaining fluency in a second language can be very difficult for some and requires a full-time effort. Somehow I don't think those announcers appreciate that.

And JT totally deserved that hard hat.

@ capsfannmiss

My guess is he was dead tired during that flurry. The problem with backups is that their conditioning suffers from prolonged exposure to hard practices and an inconsistent playing schedule. Johnson is getting the most action he's seen in years (recent wedding notwithstanding) and his body is paying the price. It was probably time to rest him tonight, in the first place, but what do I know.

THAT's the kind of effort it takes to win hockey games. Good work all around.

I got into the game late (had to work late) and was surprised to see JT in net. I didn't really see an incident that caused BJ to go down though. Injuries can be so simple, though

I'm really looking forward to spanking NJ again. For some ungodly reason, my son likes NJ. It'd be really nice to sweep them. :D

Jose gets the Hard Hat for pitching two-thirds of a shutout, for which he doesn't even get an official _win_. -JW

What one has to do to get a hard hat around here?

Isn't the hard hat sort of the unsung hero award? And that is why maybe you don't give it to the number 1,2 3 stars of the game? So you give it to someone who worked hard all game, accomplished something really good but maybe didn't get any goals or assists or in case of a goalie, did not earn the victory in his w/l stats?
