Klepis Up, Giroux Down

The Caps have recalled center/right wing Jakub Klepis from Hershey and sent left wing Alexandre Giroux to the Bears.

Klepis has certainly earned the call up. Since being sent down on Jan. 27, the 22-year-old has tallied six goals, 21 assists and a plus 19 rating in 27 games for the playoff-bound Bears. As for Giroux, this was expected.

Although no one will ever say this, Klepis must know the number of opportunities he's got left to prove in he belongs in the NHL are going to become fewer and farther between from here on out. In fact, it wouldn't be a stretch to say he's got to show something in these final six games in Washington.

If you remember, Klepis was demoted a day after taking back-to-back penalties (about seven seconds apart) in a loss at Carolina.

I'll be honest, I thought we had seen the last of Jakub. But he's been given another chance. He had better not waste it.
