Laing Returns Home

Winger Quintin Laing has been discharged from a Tampa hospital and returned to his Pennsylvania home with his wife Aimee this evening. Laing, who suffered a torn spleen against the Lightning on Saturday night, is doing well, according to a team spokesman.

Laing wanted to thank the Caps medical staff for their quick diagnosis of the injury as well as the doctors in Tampa and fans for their support, the spokesman added.

Laing's season is over, of course, but it sounds like he's going to make a full recovery.

I'll check in again from Air Canada Centre in the morning.

From the last thread:
The only team I don't mind winning right now is Florida. Someone better take two darn points in regulation from this friggin' NJ/PHILLY game. I'm tired of the 3 point games. I can't even look at myself in the mirror if I cheer for Philly even though it would be nice for NJ to drop another one. Carolina is moving up there on the hatred scale for me with Pitt and Philly. They took a huge leap when Cole came back. If our Caps don't get to the SC finals I would like to see the Sharks do it. I have like JR because I grew up in Chicago and have always followed him. Only disliked him when he was a Flyer. I don't want to see the Hawks win in though because Huet bagged on us.

I should add that I married a MD girl back in 1988 when I was a young Sailor. I adopted the Caps 21 years ago because whenever we went on leave it was to MD, during hockey season, so I could see the Caps. Moved to MD for good 6 years ago and was finally able to get the season tix I always wanted.

Man, I get hit with the final comment too often. Its unnerving. repost:

rdy4all2000: I dont think thats abusing the button. Notice I didnt say 'puckguru'. He disagrees with everyone here as well, but he's a Caps fan. Among us, we may disagree. He's not wrong when ever he speaks, he's just not a conscientious communicator. SC07 is a troll. He's just here to talk smack. He's an internet avery, without the looks, money, talent or hope. His being here is akin to cancer; it just flat out must be removed.

Get well soon, Quinton. So sorry to hear of your injury right when being called up.

(Orig. post in previous)

austinsteve, I know the sort of wildfeed you're talking about... I watched one for ABC Saturday Night Football (college football) and it was interesting hearing what the guys had to say during the breaks.

I've been a Caps fan almost from the beginning -- since 1975 when my then boyfriend (husband now) and I went to a game on a date.

Followed them ever since even though they were lower on the priority list because we were so busy raising kids. Now the eldest is 24 and the younger will be 18 soon and out of HS. The current group of Caps is so close to my elder daughter in age so I almost feel like I'm watching my kids come of age. Yup, Semin, Flash, Fehr, Ovi, and Green are less than a year removed age-wise from my first child, with Semin is almost exactly a year older than her. Schultz is a year younger than my first (plus a few days.)

CapsFan75 - Sounds like one of your daughters is looking for a husband! (hey, you'll get great seats, eh?)

I dont want any of tonight's team winning, but I especially dont want a 3pt final. I'm sick of NJ, NY, Pitt, Philly. Florida getting in as well as Carolina would prove that the SE isn't a one team division anymore. But who do I want to face? Pittsburgh deosn't feel comfortable, Philly could be a bloodbath, and Carolina matches up too well. NY I think they can beat, but its been so long since we've seen NY.

In a 3 point system, you're best bet is to win #1 in the east and face the team that barely got through the tribulation. I dont think the players should have ever thought 'comfort'. #1 is comfort, because you get the gassed/motivated team but you're in 1st place, and so the confidence is there. ANyway, the caps have shown us how a young team approaches the post season.

Florida should be real upset. The canes scored with too many men on the ice with 12 seconds left in the 2nd period.

OVP: They cut that part of the replay out when displaying it on Versus, but you and I know better! heh

Does Laing get paid better since his injury occurred while a Cap, as opposed to a Bear?

Stupid Wizards Postgame Live, where is Capitals Redline Monday?? Isn't it supposed to be on right now?

Cool, thanks Philly for beating NJ! Now I'm back to HATING them. :)

good game by the Flyers.

Keith Jones makes me sick. He's on a national broadcast he needs to stop sucking up to the ones that sign a majority of his paychecks.

Why can't VS let the celebration go. They just have to show it again. The goal is a play of the week because he blew past three players and hit the back of the net before Mckenna knew he shot it, not because of the celebration.

Gee, Florida's offense against Carolina's about as inept as ours was.

On general principal, I want the Caps to end up with a better record than Philthy even though it doesn't really matter for their division chances, assuming they win it.

This dude on VS that interviews the players is a smart@$$. He had a smart comment about Biron drinking a lot and "finally" being done and that he hopes he does get a spit interview. He also made a smart comment about OV not stepping on his shoes last week. VS needs to find a new interviewer that shows these players some respect.

Florida is still down 2-1 with 4:36 in regulation, but they are about to start an extended 5-on-3.

Posted by: GregAnnapolis | March 23, 2009 9:49 PM | Report abuse

GOAL for Stillman. "Do you know the muffin man?" says the radio guy. (Huh?)

2-2 tie with 4:05 left and still ~1:30 of PP for Florida.

At GregAnnapolis,

Go Florida! Take advantage of the extended 5 on 3. Those cheap shot artists deserve some goals against them. Cole and Brind'amour. There's no l'amour for Brind'amour amoung Caps fans.

Yes, it's mean but I hope Semin managed to pass along his flu to Carolina (when he and Gleeson were roughing each other).

Hot damm (yep, the misspelling's on purpose so we can get by any censors). Florida scored!!

Posted by: CapsFan75 | March 23, 2009 9:52 PM | Report abuse

Gee whiz, can we now refer to Carolina as Philthy lite?

lookin' forward to seein' ya next year Laing. get well buddy!

Take it easy, get well soon Quintin... and think of the silver lining for this.

The silver lining is that Quintin got hurt playing for the Caps, not for Hershey, so with his 2-way contract, he'll get paid for the rest of the season at the NHL rate. :) He's earned it.

By the way, anyone else see the new NHL network ad with the coach talking about the heartbreaking loss.... "Not only did it break my heart, this loss ruptured my spleen. Do any of you guys know what a spleen is? I don't know what one is, but I ruptured mine... and severed my esophagus..."
