Lights out at KCI

It's half an hour before the start of the Capitals' optional practice at KCI, but the rink is dark. We're thinking this may be a new strategy on the part of the team to beat Jaroslav Halak. What he can't see, he can't stop right?

In any case, stay tuned for updates as to which players are here and for Coach Bruce Boudreau's news conference.

Is it just me, or is having an optional practice the eve of game 7 a bit disconcerting?

We all know who probably will opt out, and maybe the fact that they were "on" last night only to be stymied by a superb Halak offsets their need to practice. But still, I'd feel a bit better if BB made this a mandatory session.

They'll break him, just like they broke the hot Lundqvist in last years first round game 7

Even if the Caps win tomorrow, it means nothing. They will never win a Cup. And, to me at least, that is all that matters.

Hey, ask Leonsis why the heck they shut down the website message boards? A bush league move like that suggests that they can't take the heat and are in total choke mode.

come on bruce...seriously? this team needs all the practice it can get! umm...we're kinda playing for our lives tomorrow...

Posted by: RussianMachineNeverBreaks | April 27, 2010 11:49 AM | Report abuse

Let's keep the spirits up, Caps fans! The Caps have pulled victories out of thin air before and hopefully tomorrow will be no different. Let's shut them down, Capitals!

He doesn't have to see it if we keep hitting him in the C/H.

Let's stay positive boys. It's not over yet, we'll pull this one out. Ovie will show up tomorrow to lead this team to victory!

Hey SuperZ, why don't you go back to staring at your posters of a shirtless Sidney Crosby? You're not needed on this message board.

Posted by: LeftCoastCapsFan | April 27, 2010 11:52 AM | Report abuse

It's way past the time to practice. If our guys don't have it down by now, another practice won't make any difference.
For some reason(s), our guys can't get their heads around closing this series out. Maybe we're no better than a regular season team with playoff potential. Maybe we thought we were better than we actually are. If we lose tomorrow night, all the good work they did this season will be for naught, IMHO.

Agreed. Maybe they are all at the driving range practicing for their tee times this weekend.

Posted by: Firepelosi | April 27, 2010 11:54 AM | Report abuse

This is all just a ploy to make sure Ted gets as many home games as possible during the playoffs.

We will win the cup in 7 all the way to the end, so we can sign Backstrom.

relax people.

Caps need to go see a movie, relax or get Ron Wilson to come back and show a video montage of hoosiers or something

Posted by: flee001 | April 27, 2010 11:56 AM | Report abuse

Better yet, all Caps must play God of War III today to see what revenge is all about and how to topple the god known as Halak

Seriously though... Does anyone else feel like the whole team is trying too hard to get Semin involved? I understand he is in a slump right now but the team can't change just to get him involved. Hopefully, OV shows up and scores 4 goals if needed tomorrow night. This is a BIG TIME game and we need our BIG TIME players to show. I'm talking about you Nick and Ovie... If the rest of the team isn't gonna help you then you guys need to play even better.

The Pens practiced mandatory throughout their playoff run last year, yet the Caps keep having optional practices? Ovechkin should tell all the players they have to be there.

Posted by: GoCaps08 | April 27, 2010 11:58 AM | Report abuse

One more practice won't add that much. I don't know how sore or tired they are. My guess is that they're all in video sessions.

Maybe an afternoon of golfing or something else might be helpful. Anything to try to get Halak out of their heads.

Maybe they are practicing at Piney Orchard...don't get why it's not a mandatory practice.

Seriously, hoping they can pull it off tomorrow night! I will be there rooting from section 105...

They are probably practicing somewhere else in secret and don't want to be distracted by the media. I can see Boudreau doing something like that.

@ Leftcoastfan

Posters of Sidney Crosby? What?

I will admit that I am sour as can be right now, and a victory tomorrow will probably not make me that much better (since it should be a given that we beat the Canadiens, especially since their backs were against the wall).

In the Playoffs you have to scar yourself to win. You have to do the work. The flashy Sportscenter goals do not happen very often in the Postseason. This Caps team just is not built to win when it counts.

Year in and year out we will raise the SE Division Championship banner. WOW! No one should clap at that or be proud. Look at Montreal. They barely made it in, yet they now have a chance to take out a number one seed.

Heart. Determination. Will. It looks like the other team currently has those things.

I don't like it, but folks this is why we play for home ice, to play game #7 in our barn. Fans need to bring it to the barn tomorrow night. We have been on the other side of coming back and coming back one game short. Time to repay the favor.

It is our building, it is our team. STAND BEHIND IT!

Let's go Caps!

Posted by: CTCapsPhan | April 27, 2010 12:06 PM | Report abuse

THATS RIGHT!!

NOT IN OUR BARN!

@ CTCapsPhan

THe energy just isn't the same at the phone booth anymore. Now that the Caps are the hottest ticket in town you get the wine and cheese corporate crowd that doesn't even know what offsides is. It will basically turn into FedEx field indoors. That place has no atmosphere because most of the people that are actually fans get priced out. I foresee it getting worse too. Last year and the year before it was fans at the games... now it's people who just want to be "seen" there or want to tell their friends they were there. It's a shame...

Posted by: Firepelosi | April 27, 2010 12:12 PM | Report abuse

I have nothing constructive to write at this time.

Posted by: Fro_ | April 27, 2010 12:14 PM | Report abuse

@Firepelosi

I do agree that it seems the Caps were trying too hard to get Semin involved.

Backstrom needs to start shooting again, especially on the PP. You can tell the Habs are not even worried that Backstrom will shoot when he has the puck.

Cammaleri even said they play the PK a certain way because of all the right handed shots on the Caps PP. Well, if Backstrom started shooting more on it that would help change some of the focus of the Habs PK.

Posted by: sgm3 | April 27, 2010 12:18 PM | Report abuse

from reading most of this board, you would think the season ended yesterday.

Posted by: capsfansince74 | April 27, 2010 12:19 PM | Report abuse

@Firepelosi

Oh the energy was great back in Ted's first couplde of years when the CAPS were drawing 9-10,000 a game and you could hear yourself think? The phone booth has sounded very loud and raucous this and last playoff season. If the team loses tomorrow it will not because of the fans.

Posted by: adhardwick | April 27, 2010 12:22 PM | Report abuse

The Capitals have already lost two of the three games at home and if, as suggested, they are feeling the pressure, the outlook for game 7 is not great. Montreal has a strong veteran presence in the lineup, guys with Stanley Cup rings. The Habs are less likely to lose their composure.
