Hubby's away tonight--probably a good thing since I don't exactly watch these games in silence. :D

What the heck--American Hero gets the first goal.

LET'S GO CAPS!!!

Posted by: wocoliz | October 8, 2010 7:39 PM | Report abuse

Last May, after 35 years of watching the Caps, I said "That's it, I'm done. I have had it. No more."

And yet here I am in front of the TV. Anyone remember that definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? Yeah, that was it.

Posted by: chrisd3 | October 8, 2010 7:40 PM | Report abuse

Come-on guys we all know it going to be the Great8 who gets the first!

Posted by: instinct227 | October 8, 2010 7:40 PM | Report abuse

There are really no words. This is terrible.

Posted by: capscoach | October 8, 2010 7:51 PM | Report abuse

anybody have a good streaming game link?

Posted by: j762 | October 8, 2010 7:51 PM | Report abuse

unless he has narcolepsy - its never good to just collapse

Posted by: Capt_Kirk_in_AZ | October 8, 2010 7:52 PM | Report abuse

Scary to see him just collapse and even more scary to see him not move since. Thank God Atlanta has topnotch medical facilities.

Posted by: wocoliz | October 8, 2010 7:52 PM | Report abuse

just rewound - i didn't see anybody touch him on the last caps rush

Posted by: Capt_Kirk_in_AZ

nothing. He just collapsed.

Posted by: rachel216 | October 8, 2010 7:53 PM | Report abuse

did he raise an arm or anything when they carted him off?

Posted by: j762 | October 8, 2010 7:54 PM | Report abuse

Pure speculation but looks like some vagal shock to me... I would assume he will be ok... no first advanced life support was given/necessary...

Posted by: atybat | October 8, 2010 7:55 PM | Report abuse

Maybe that they didn't perform CPR is good? Could he just fainted (no real problem...dehydration?) and then hit his head on the ice?

Posted by: dezlboy1 | October 8, 2010 7:56 PM | Report abuse

@atybat

Vagal Shock?

Posted by: dezlboy1 | October 8, 2010 7:58 PM | Report abuse

Looks like he was trying to signal the bench before slumping to the ice. Don't think he hit his head going down or anything else.

Hope we get some good news on him during the course of the game.

Posted by: RedRedRed | October 8, 2010 7:58 PM | Report abuse

Shout out to ATL EMS. Hopefully he'll be OK. I didn't see the AED attached or anything. No CPR or intubation to maintain airway either. Those are great signs.

Nicety, ER nurse

Posted by: nicety251 | October 8, 2010 7:59 PM | Report abuse

@ j762 I didn't see any movement at all

Posted by: icehammer97 | October 8, 2010 8:00 PM | Report abuse

Hope the goalie will be ok. That's scary!!!

Good to see Caps again.

Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | October 8, 2010 8:04 PM | Report abuse

lol laich scored the first goal of the season last year as well

Posted by: lilnick | October 8, 2010 8:04 PM | Report abuse

Great pass by the much maligned Flash. As long as he takes care of some D responsibilities too and we might be ok.

Posted by: Satts13 | October 8, 2010 8:05 PM | Report abuse

lol

rach, u have to go back a couple of threads

Posted by: rachel216 | October 8, 2010 8:11 PM | Report abuse

YUP. Flash is responsible for both goals.

Posted by: Satts13 | October 8, 2010 8:11 PM | Report abuse

Kane is prolly gonna end up as their leading scorer

Posted by: wtf_e_fehr | October 8, 2010 8:11 PM | Report abuse

Thrashers passing is getting better, they started off way sloppy.

Posted by: RedRedRed | October 8, 2010 8:11 PM | Report abuse

THE WORLDS BEST PP!

Posted by: wtf_e_fehr | October 8, 2010 8:15 PM | Report abuse

PP

Posted by: Satts13 | October 8, 2010 8:15 PM | Report abuse

Couple really good minutes there. Good response to what most of us would describe as "more of the same" in the Caps d-zone.

Posted by: stevie_in_gp | October 8, 2010 8:15 PM | Report abuse

Even though that goal was on Flash...just for kicks, did anyone seen what d pair was on?

Posted by: Satts13 | October 8, 2010 8:17 PM | Report abuse

I don't think I've ever seen Erskine this PO'd. Good for him!

Posted by: wocoliz | October 8, 2010 8:21 PM | Report abuse

cstanton should be a little pleased with erskine and chimmychunga

Posted by: Capt_Kirk_in_AZ | October 8, 2010 8:23 PM | Report abuse

How did Chimmer get that shiner?

Posted by: griz0615 | October 8, 2010 8:25 PM | Report abuse

I'm telling you, Erskine is not half bad. He's been set up to fail in our system (and I like our system). He will fare much better with a stay-at-home counterpart.

Posted by: EricinReston | October 8, 2010 8:26 PM | Report abuse

griz0615:
he took a puck to the face while on the bench during a preseason game

Posted by: Capt_Kirk_in_AZ | October 8, 2010 8:26 PM | Report abuse

Puck to the face during one of the pre-season games, right? Bunch of stitches.

During intermissions, they often switch to other games, but they will switch back.

Go Caps!
Best wishes to Pavelec.....................x 1000

Posted by: pittshater | October 8, 2010 8:28 PM | Report abuse

Erskine had a good reason to be PO'd... the whole play was his fault because he pinched in too deep.

thinks he's Bobby Orr just because he wears the same number.

My bad...blame the alcohol.

------------------------------------------

is that a joke? he should be the stay-at-home d-guy, this team doesn't need another Mike Green joining the rush.

Posted by: joek443 | October 8, 2010 8:37 PM | Report abuse

By "not a stay-at-home D" I don't mean he should be joining the rush. He doesn't have the footspeed to be a stay at home D. He'd have to play at the center dot. What he should be doing is mauling people in our end. Let Alzner stay home. Erskine can go Hulk Smash people.

Posted by: EricinReston | October 8, 2010 8:41 PM | Report abuse

Hope the Caps lose some of the fancy and turn a bit of gritty team play for this period. That first was not exactly good team play.

Posted by: JIMALLCAPS1 | October 8, 2010 8:48 PM | Report abuse

Erskine is no Scott Stevens and even Stevens got into trouble when he was looking to knock out people...

he's at best a #6 d-man who's not even gonna play every game which means you're just happy if he's not scored upon... if you expect too much from a guy like that, that means you're desperate in D

Posted by: joek443 | October 8, 2010 8:50 PM | Report abuse

Come on Caps, this looks very weak so far; way to go Nuevy!

Posted by: JIMALLCAPS1 | October 8, 2010 8:52 PM | Report abuse

Hand pass in the crease isn't kosher? I thought you had to actually cover the puck to get that called.

Well it's not like we haven't been here before... Here's to hoping we can fix this over intermission like we did so many times last year :-/
