I missed Saturday's game and haven't seen any highlights. I read most of the CI summaries to catch up and one of them mentioned that Ovi fumbled the puck on a breakaway? Can anyone elaborate and tell me if it was as bad as it sounds?

Thanks in advance.

Really? That would be a departure from your behavior in the last session because my question was CLEAN, RELEVANT and IGNORED.

JILTED!

@ wtf

YOu don't really expect to get answers to questions other than what has already been answered on the boards do you ????????
:)

@wtf_e_fehr

Here's a question you could probably get passed the strict filter AND answered.

"Do you think the Caps will wear their white jersey's tonight? Also, any word on Varly?"

Yep, it's a 2 parter, but Im still sure it will make it through.

How about an update on Knubs. First I heard potentially long term, then I heard not nearly as bad as they thought.

I wish I didn't have to work tomorrow. There are good seats available for right at $10 or less tonight in NJ on stubhub.

Man that HBO 24/7 preview got me pumped! Come on Caps...we are due a win! Time to up our game, play smart, and go all the way!

Lumberjack deserves all of the kudos he is receiving right now. Night in, night out-to date he has been one of the best players for the Caps this season.

By the way, why does BB insist on wasting a penalty shot by putting OV on the ice?? The guy needs to do some reevaluating.

Posted by: doughless | November 22, 2010 11:16 AM | Report abuse

@fanohock1

You mean his undisclosed upper body injury? haha

Man, $10, they must be stugggggling to puts people in the seats, because thats below purchase price haha.

BTW, anyone selling 4 tickets together somewhere for the Nov 26th game?

Posted by: SeminAllOverTheIce | November 22, 2010 11:17 AM | Report abuse

@doughless

He scored on the last shootout and also a penalty shot this season. Not a bad record for this season so far.

Also, maybe it was a little bit of the morning kool-aid I had (goat's blood was thawing and wasnt ready by the time I had to leave for work)...but in that vid clip for the HBO series, did anyone else notice most of the Pens stuff, was them lighting up the Caps and most of the Caps stuff was us lighting up random teams and occasionally the Pens? Seems a little biased.

I couldn't agree w/you more!! What disturbs me, though, is that his ice time has plummeted the last few games (11 mins against the Flyers??)....anyone know what's up with that?

You could ask Katie. Just don't hold your breath waiting for a response.

LOL some fan from the NJ blog posted:

"AP - This just in: Ovi, seen in Newark hotel licking his chops.

Enquirer - Latest conspircy theory: are the NJD players faking injuries just to
not take the ice out of embarassment?"

Haha, apparently they just recalled some guy to replace another injury and they are all posting stuff like "who is this guy?" "where did this guy come from?".

Anyone who has access to twiiter:

Morning skate updates?

Line combos?

Starting between the pipes?

Posted by: PhilR | November 22, 2010 11:46 AM | Report abuse

I should ask Katie to find out why DJK can't crack our lineup and Erskine only gets chump-minutes because he's too slow, yet Philly still beats us with Shelley in the lineup and O'Donnell and Meszaros (both slower than Erskine)....

Posted by: vermontcaps | November 22, 2010 11:47 AM | Report abuse

Ok, it is time for Ovie to come out of hibernation mode. We lost two in a row and now we need to come back with a vengance and take it all out on this poor NJD team...no mercy!!!

The only reason I worry about Ovie more this season than in slow spurts in seasons past is b/c at least when he wasn't scoring before he was zooming around the ice hitting like crazy like the bull he is! I don't know if he is scared of getting suspended again or what...but I want the bull in the china shop Ovie that we all have come to love...he wasn't perfect, but he was perfect for us and this team!

@capscoach

I really believe Ovie is pacing himself. Meaning he is not go full blast on every line shift. He is biding his time and waiting for a few short plays here and there.

Remember, Knuble suggested to him to do this and I think Ovie is realizing that the team will be fine during the regular season when he isn't going 100%. This will in turn leave Ovie more fresh for the playoffs.

It stinks a little as a fan because he isn't as much fun to watch. But if the only goal is to win the SC and not to entertain the paying ticketholders and viewing TV audience then he is doing the right thing.

@PhilR

they just took the ice, but its Neuvirth vs Hedberg. Holtby will get a start later this week. So Varly is in Hershey for at least this week. Line combinations, I am not sure.

Updates please someone.

NJ is updating theirs. Looks like Hedberg in goal for them. Then again, their blog guy is constantly posting in the comments within his articles. HINT HINT Miss Carrera. ;)

So we lose 5-0 to Atlanta and were down 3-1 at home vs. Philly and NO ONE on the team tried to change momentum with a fight? Does BB instruct his team to not initiate fights w/the other team for fear that our "stars" will get hurt?? Sure seems that way to me.....

Posted by: vermontcaps | November 22, 2010 12:14 PM | Report abuse

@vermontcaps

don't u think we were on the PK enough against Philly without adding a fighting major? :)

Posted by: capscoach | November 22, 2010 12:19 PM | Report abuse

@SAOTI:

Actually Tom Guilliti who is the Devils beat reporter for the Bergen Record and runs the Fire and Ice blog regularly comments on the posts of his readers, who often criticize him for being for being a "Rags" fan...but he definitely engages in the discussions on the blog. They don't have a sign in procedure like the WaPo so often people will sign on as him and really get things crazy. But that whole fanbase is crazy with the way this season has gone for them.

Let's hope the Caps don't come out just expecting to win against a weaker team - we know how that's bitten us before!

@ capscoach

Speaking of being on PK on Sunday, in the heat of the moment, I lost it and screamed at the ref he sucked so bad that he can count on never doing the cup games :). The guy next to me, another sth e mails me the next day and tells me of the 2 linesmen and 2 refs they have a total of 9 playoff games between then and all first round games too.

Is it me or are the officals bad this year? HOw many times are we going to see a linesman block the puck when teams try to clear the zone? Or a ref standing next to a cross check, elbow, slash, etc ..... and no call. And its not just a caps thing either. Watch any game and I am almost sure you can find between 6-10 things. I know everyone has a bad day but 4 guys having the same bad day together over and over ?????????

Has colin been sending to many e mails this year ????

Posted by: bqts | November 22, 2010 12:30 PM | Report abuse

@bqts

yea...the refs seem to be getting in the way a lot more than last season! And those guys against Philly were getting a little power trip blowing the whistle every two seconds. It was getting obnoxious!

Esskay stock has gone down the past 2 weeks, pretty steadily too. They dont seem to be moving as much product as they have hoped. But I'm not going to rush and sell like others. I foresee it going back up soon enough. Oh yes, the hot dogs will be eaten soon enough.

Are you another one of the 70s/80s throwbacks that think the only way to climb back into a game is a fight? Look, I'm not going to lie, when things go to crap on the ice and blows are being thrown, I stand up and watch the fight and friggin' love it. On the other hand, I don't demand a fight take place when we are down.

How about you give the guys a little credit for coming back from 3-1 and 4-3 down in the 3rd period of their 3rd game in 4 nights to even salvage a point against the 2nd place team in the conference? Yeah, they lost in the shootout but the interference call on Backstrom in OT was a joke and forced the Caps to play for the shootout. No penalty on Backstrom and maybe the Caps win the game before the shootout, who knows.

Anyone else notice how CRAZY our schedule is this week and last!

we have every other day and a back to back between the 19th and the 28th and before that we had a bunch of every other...that last practice was the first they had been able to have in 8 days...and we won't have another day to just practice until almost December!

Posted by: capscoach | November 22, 2010 1:04 PM | Report abuse

bqts: Sloan has many nights off, unfortunately he just takes the night off while he is "playing". Which Sloan assist did you like better? The Boogaard or Byfuglien? My favorite is the Boogaard. I can't wait for his next horrible turnover!
