LET'S GO CAPS!!!

Posted by: ludeman95 | February 7, 2010 11:54 AM | Report abuse

I hate Pittsburgh, but all streaks have to end eventually. Down 2-0 is a pretty good test for the Caps. Anyway, I just hope that someone on the Caps is "Man" enough to fight Crosby's just the way they are trying to "taunt" Ovechkin right now. But who knows, I got some snow to shovel so I can just survive over the weekend! Good luck Caps! Save your energies and go for the big picture!

Posted by: JohnWWW | February 7, 2010 12:44 PM | Report abuse

Ok, I give up. I have tried everything I can think of to get back into the chat. I must be banned or something.

Posted by: wtf_e_fehr | February 7, 2010 12:46 PM | Report abuse

Why Tyler Sloan?

Posted by: Grape8 | February 7, 2010 12:48 PM | Report abuse

This SUCKS! How did Pens get the PP when they boarded OV? Sloan had a few good gam, but PLEASE can we bring in a real D man!

Posted by: capscoach | February 7, 2010 12:50 PM | Report abuse

Argh! Awful first period! PK still is terrible. I just hope that this ends up like the last time we played the Hens: down and awful early but dominating and up by the last horn.

Where is e'erybody? I specifically woke up early today and dug out for the Caps and the Super Bowl!

Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | February 7, 2010 12:52 PM | Report abuse

It's depressing to lose to a Penguins team that is dog tired from traveling. (But the Caps have had a playoff like schedule and next to no practice time).

Posted by: CapsFan75 | February 7, 2010 12:53 PM | Report abuse

@MyPostIDisAfake

They must all be on the live chat.

Posted by: CapsFan75 | February 7, 2010 12:54 PM | Report abuse

Ugh, I can't stand the Live Chat. Too much going on.

Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | February 7, 2010 1:08 PM | Report abuse

Jeez, enough about the Pens travel and being tired! This is the Caps 3rd in 4 days, and I'd venture they are way more worn down than the Pens.

Posted by: RiceandGravy | February 7, 2010 1:11 PM | Report abuse

I'm not sure which is more annoying: live game chats, the NBC announcers, or watching Sloan-Poti play "defense."

Posted by: butcherbaker | February 7, 2010 1:13 PM | Report abuse

Can we get the NBC announce crew and Crosby a room? They are practially slobbering all over him.

Posted by: SouthsideFFX | February 7, 2010 1:15 PM | Report abuse

Time for Ovi to take control!!

Posted by: butcherbaker | February 7, 2010 1:18 PM | Report abuse

Crap

Posted by: RiceandGravy | February 7, 2010 1:25 PM | Report abuse

Pretty obvious the league wants the Pens and their boy Crosby to win on national TV today. Orpik took a two-handed slash to Pothier, then goes after him after the goal. And the Caps don't end up with the power play? Un f-ing believable.

Posted by: SouthsideFFX | February 7, 2010 1:29 PM | Report abuse

How Backstrom got a misconduct for getting mugged by Kennedy is beyond me. Kennedy's a little thug punk and was trying to pick a fight; Backstrom was trying his best not to fight.

Posted by: butcherbaker | February 7, 2010 1:34 PM | Report abuse

Nice call dressing Sloan. Sure glad we took Alzner with the 5th pick in the draft in 2007. Theo has madeno saves. Not ready to play. Crosby has been a beast, give credit where credit is due.

We are way put classed today. Better not stand pat McPhee. Our fate is in your hands.

Posted by: underpants2 | February 7, 2010 1:38 PM | Report abuse

Aww, Crosby and Gonchar got boo-boos.

Posted by: butcherbaker | February 7, 2010 1:40 PM | Report abuse

wtf. this is freakin absurd. bs after bs.

Posted by: PindarPushkin | February 7, 2010 1:45 PM | Report abuse

Underpants, Crosby has been his usual self. Garbage time goals set up by teammates, and a lot whining. This is the worst officiated game I have seen all season.

Posted by: SouthsideFFX | February 7, 2010 1:45 PM | Report abuse

It appears that only Ovi came to play. Where is Semin, Backstrom, Green and Knuble? I guess there is still a long way to go from wanting to be a Champion to being a real Champion. As the other bloggers have stated, give credit where they are due. Hope Coach BB will get the team over this fiasco and get back to business.

Posted by: JohnWWW | February 7, 2010 1:46 PM | Report abuse

Guerin runs someone, no call. Poti gets sent to the box for something, not sure what cuz NBC was too busy watching Crosby with no helmet. Then Malkin takes out Steckel, no call. I am a bit perplexed

Posted by: RiceandGravy | February 7, 2010 1:48 PM | Report abuse

Officiating is bad, but Crosby has been good.

Posted by: underpants2 | February 7, 2010 1:49 PM | Report abuse

JohnWWW, thanks to bogus misconduct penalties, Backstrom and Knuble have spent most of the game in the box. This game should be 2-2. Granted, the Caps got outplayed in the first, its been even since then minus the terrible officiating.

Posted by: SouthsideFFX | February 7, 2010 1:50 PM | Report abuse

Where is Semin, Backstrom, Green and Knuble?
_____

well, with the exception of Green, they're all in the box. knuble, 17 min... semin 4 and backstrom some how got a 10min misconduct.

i guess the officials really want the pens to win. or is it our special teams that doesn't want us to win.

we didn't come to play and this ain't the rangers or atlanta.

Posted by: natresgroup | February 7, 2010 1:50 PM | Report abuse

Who are the referees in this game? This is the worst display of hockey officiating I've seen this year in a Capitals game, and they should be ashamed of themselves.

Posted by: youaresquishy | February 7, 2010 1:53 PM | Report abuse

Tarik-
After watching the Sid-OVIE rivalry for a few years now and just the way the NHL handles the 2 superstars...why does the NHL baby the peguins and what do they have against Washington? I mean if you go back and watch all of these games, and even this one..(with BACKSTROM getting a miscondut??) Is there someting that the NHL has against the nations captial? I know all Caps fans agree, but I would love to hear an opinion on this...I mean if Adams can get off on a cross-check to ovie into the boards and we'd get an immdediate suspension..I would bet there is something there

Posted by: cmajer7 | February 7, 2010 1:57 PM | Report abuse

I agree that the Pens have gotten under the Caps skin BUT I am watching the game and have been online and still have no clue as to how Backs got a game misconduct. Basically with Knubes out for a 10 minute penalty in the 1st and Backs thrown out of the game in the 2nd, the refs have basically obliterated the Caps most lethal 1st line. And have made it clear that the Pens can do what they want with Ovi--boarding, spearing--and won't get a penalty. I'm p*^9sed.

Posted by: Capsyoungguns | February 7, 2010 2:03 PM | Report abuse

WHERE IS THE HIGH STICK CALL FOR SMACKING OVI IN THE FACE??

Posted by: butcherbaker | February 7, 2010 2:05 PM | Report abuse

Backs is back--whew!

Oh man do I ever want to see some hats flying!

Posted by: butcherbaker | February 7, 2010 2:13 PM | Report abuse

HATS! I called it!

Posted by: butcherbaker | February 7, 2010 2:22 PM | Report abuse

YEAH!!!

BTW, maybe hockey would be a little more popular in this country if NBC bothered to point out that the best in-game atmosphere in the NHL is right here in the U.S. capital.

Posted by: TimDz | February 7, 2010 2:51 PM | Report abuse

WOW!!! WHAT A COMEBACK!!!

Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | February 7, 2010 2:52 PM | Report abuse

Knuble with the winner unless fleury somehow hit it backwards by himself (I don't think he did).

Fantastic comeback!

Posted by: Raber | February 7, 2010 2:52 PM | Report abuse

Knuble got the game winner. Overhead replay shows Ovie's shot hit post/crossbar and K-Nubs put the rebound in the net.

Posted by: letzgoterps | February 7, 2010 2:52 PM | Report abuse

ovi's shot was off of the post and knuble poked it in

Posted by: Capt_Kirk_in_AZ | February 7, 2010 2:52 PM | Report abuse

Knuble w/ the 1st assist of course from the greatest player in the world....

Posted by: randysbailin | February 7, 2010 2:52 PM | Report abuse

BEAUTIFUL!

Posted by: butcherbaker | February 7, 2010 2:53 PM | Report abuse

awww I thought it was Ovie. No wonder there was like a strange delay.. GO KNUBLE! King of the ugly goals!!

KUH-NUBLE poked that sucker past Blurry.

What an eventful chat and AWESOME game. WAPOST please restore my wtf_e_fehr ID. Thanks.

GO CAPS!!!

Posted by: real_wtf_fehr | February 7, 2010 2:54 PM | Report abuse

i really want them to get 18 in a row - but i'm glad it can't be the pens to end the streak

Posted by: Capt_Kirk_in_AZ | February 7, 2010 2:54 PM | Report abuse

Knuble with the winner unless fleury somehow hit it backwards by himself (I don't think he did).

Posted by: Raber

I was going crazy so I didn't see it so clearly. Ovie's one timer hit the right post and Knuble tucked the rebound under FLeury.

Posted by: rachel216 | February 7, 2010 2:54 PM | Report abuse

Referees for this game were Frederick L'Ecuyer and Tim Peel.

A+ for effort, but even your two 10-minute misconduct penalties against the Caps' top-liners, even letting the Penguins board and crosscheck Ovechkin at will, weren't quite enough. If the Penguins + 2 officials - 10 minutes of Backstrom and Knuble can't beat the Capitals, what can?

Posted by: youaresquishy | February 7, 2010 2:54 PM | Report abuse

what a finish.........for all those whinning about officiating we just got a gift in ot.....refs let stuff go both ways...all that crying about refs makes u look like #87(who like him or not can play the game) hope bb still deals with some of the apparent issues and doesnt just ignore them cause the streak continues

Posted by: wendel2 | February 7, 2010 2:55 PM | Report abuse

4 unanswered goals to end that game. Just awesome!

Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | February 7, 2010 2:55 PM | Report abuse

So it was Knuble.

What a game. It was fitting that it ended in OT.

Posted by: elicea | February 7, 2010 2:55 PM | Report abuse

wow, now you see why BB doesn't want to mess with the lines. First Knuble is kicked for 10 mins for fighting. Then Ovie 2 for roughing. Then Backstrom 10 for the same incident. That must have really messed up the line chemistry and kept them down for a while.

But once everyone comes back together...
damn.
the caps can't seem to find it in them to lose

Posted by: j762 | February 7, 2010 2:57 PM | Report abuse

TSN says it was the K Bus who scored. Seems like there isnt a postgame show to be found on TV.

Posted by: real_wtf_fehr | February 7, 2010 2:57 PM | Report abuse

wtf: what was up with the ID thing in the chat? Lost mine for a while too...Pen trolls?

Posted by: TimDz | February 7, 2010 2:57 PM | Report abuse

Beeps peeps

Posted by: MyPostIDisAfake | February 7, 2010 2:57 PM | Report abuse

OK, now I'm impressed.

Posted by: Godfather_of_Goals | February 7, 2010 2:57 PM | Report abuse

ready for all the "we were tired" excuses from Pens fans?

Posted by: TimDz | February 7, 2010 2:59 PM | Report abuse

Replay of the goal on NBC looked like Ovi's shot hit the post, bounced back out (maybe under Fluery) right to Knuble, who poked it in under Fluery.

Posted by: hockeydad | February 7, 2010 3:01 PM | Report abuse

Very impressive game by Fehr.

Posted by: elicea | February 7, 2010 3:01 PM | Report abuse

There are no more words to describe this guy.

Posted by: underpants2 | February 7, 2010 3:01 PM | Report abuse

i wasn't real confident going into the thrid - but still believed they could do it. ovi is the heart and soul of this team and is practically willing them to win. they do have some weak areas of their game - but every team does. i hope any moves by GMGM do not diminish their 'strong' play

Posted by: Capt_Kirk_in_AZ | February 7, 2010 3:02 PM | Report abuse

wtf: what was up with the ID thing in the chat? Lost mine for a while too...Pen trolls?

Posted by: TimDz | February 7, 2010 2:57 PM |

I sure would like to know. It was VERY hard to get back into the chat. I suspect a hack but it very well could have been a glitch. I would REALLY like to know though!

Posted by: real_wtf_fehr | February 7, 2010 3:05 PM | Report abuse

@wendel2

You are 100% wrong.

The penalty in overtime was a nondiscretionary call. Semin got a stick in the face. The officials are not permitted on such a play to do anything other than call a penalty (unless it's as the result of a follow-through on a shot). Check your Rulebook.

And this particular game was not an example of refs letting stuff go both ways. The refs let plenty of Penguins stuff go, not much Capitals stuff go, didn't call the Penguins for shoving Ovechkin headfirst into the boards, and gave 10-minute misconduct penalties to two-thirds of the Capitals' top line. This was the most one-sidedly officiated game of the Capitals' season so far. Penalty minutes until the mandatory call on Orpik in overtime and the game misconduct on Orpik that I assume came as a result of that call: Capitals 39 - Penguins 23. The referees let at least 10 minutes' worth of obvious Penguins penalties go.

Everything you said in your post was 100% wrong. Your crying about people correctly complaining about the bad officiating in this game makes you sound like #87.

I am REALLY HAPPY that the fans who did make it out to the VC were rewarded with an AWESOME game to watch.

Posted by: real_wtf_fehr | February 7, 2010 3:07 PM | Report abuse

I am listening to Steve Kolbe on 1500 AM, because NO ONE ELSE is covering this. Kolbe is now off, and now they will talk Caps Hockey.

GO CAPS!!!

"TSN says it was the K Bus who scored. Seems like there isnt a postgame show to be found on TV.

yeah, they had to go cover golf. what a transition

Posted by: j762 | February 7, 2010 3:16 PM | Report abuse

I know the streak will come to an end sometime...but isn't it great that we were able to continue it against the pens in such a manner?

Posted by: TimDz | February 7, 2010 3:18 PM | Report abuse

I had to watch the game at a sports bar in Indian with no sound.

Was it me, or was that slashing call with 4 minutes to play in regulation completely phantom.

I don't think I've seen a blown call like that since, well, game 6 of last year's playoffs.

And how come Chris Kunitz is still alive?

GO CAPS! What a win!
