Tarik and Katie,
As someone who travels (Europe) your posts are great...thank you so much!!!

Posted by: ralCapsFan | March 16, 2009 7:10 PM | Report abuse

It's too much to follow the chat...no time to watch the game.

Stupid goal. No one took care of the guy.

Posted by: fnralch | March 16, 2009 7:24 PM | Report abuse

bad goal to give up, caps content to play down to Atlanta's level right now, no urgency to this game at all

Posted by: cstanton1 | March 16, 2009 7:27 PM | Report abuse

fnralch: Agreed, and the comments don't appear until a full minute or so after they are posted... it's almost less 'live' than the regular stuff! I think I'll stick with the tried and true method...

Hurray for Pothier being back! :)

Posted by: GregAnnapolis | March 16, 2009 7:27 PM | Report abuse

any streaming sites 4 tonights game

Posted by: vik191 | March 16, 2009 7:32 PM | Report abuse

Looks like another "We don't care" game.....this happens way too often with this team.....

Posted by: 555Mass | March 16, 2009 7:39 PM | Report abuse

game chat sucks

Posted by: rdy4all2000 | March 16, 2009 7:43 PM | Report abuse

I am w/ fnralch and gregannapols. this "live" chat blows. Only difference is the comments are not moderated while the "live" chat is moderated by the "NHL Editor", who is all of 2 years out of college. How you go from "crowd noise" where your job consists of copying and pasting witty comments and then commenting on the comments to "NHL Editor" is beyond me.

Posted by: skins1110 | March 16, 2009 7:47 PM | Report abuse

rd4all2000: I wouldn't go *THAT* far, but I have decided I don't like the current implementation. I'm giving up on the chat for the evening but I'm sure it will improve in the future.

Posted by: GregAnnapolis | March 16, 2009 7:48 PM | Report abuse

The Caps will break-through in the 2nd, GO CAPS!

Posted by: MReilly9 | March 16, 2009 7:50 PM | Report abuse

Frankly, I miss Green. the D now looks rather nervous and Green has the ability to calm things down.

Would anyone agree that BB's going to move Semin to the first line in mid-second period? ;-)

Posted by: fnralch | March 16, 2009 7:50 PM | Report abuse

But I guess the only thing worse than my over use of quotations is the business plan for the American newspaper.

Posted by: skins1110 | March 16, 2009 7:50 PM | Report abuse

There are many issues with the chat, but I like the idea! However, I like it here in the comment section for now.

Posted by: wtf_e_fehr | March 16, 2009 7:53 PM | Report abuse

I'm almost tempted to start up an IRC server, but I suspect that there are not many people here that would even know where to begin on that one. ;)

Perhaps it's best just to remain here on the 'regular blog'.

Posted by: GregAnnapolis | March 16, 2009 7:56 PM | Report abuse

Sacre Dieu! Is someone unhappy with our fearless "reporters"? Lets hope the blog's vigilants don't notice it. I have been castigated and made feel shameful for questioning their work ethics. LOL.

Posted by: opita1 | March 16, 2009 8:03 PM | Report abuse

I missed the first period. What happened to the Caps?

Posted by: opita1 | March 16, 2009 8:06 PM | Report abuse

THREE times two on one -- and ends up with a puck into chest... PASSING, please!

Posted by: fnralch | March 16, 2009 8:09 PM | Report abuse

Flash needs to score on his chances, it has been quite awhile.

Posted by: MReilly9 | March 16, 2009 8:10 PM | Report abuse

OK, time for a big kill or a shorty. I'll take either one. Or both.

Posted by: GregAnnapolis | March 16, 2009 8:11 PM | Report abuse

@opita1

clumsy Caps. No real fighting. The first goal came after their guy flew around 3 or 4 Caps and nobody was willing to check him.

Posted by: fnralch | March 16, 2009 8:11 PM | Report abuse

Is it time to switch up the goalies?

Posted by: MReilly9 | March 16, 2009 8:12 PM | Report abuse

Not that 3-0 is good..but I am wondering why my darn DVR did not pick up this game?!

Posted by: mcbird2k | March 16, 2009 8:12 PM | Report abuse

mcbird2k: Did you have your darn DVR aimed at Comcast Sportsnet? Because the game is on Versus tonight; I wonder if that is the difference.

BTW, I wanted big kill or shorty... Not what I got.

Posted by: GregAnnapolis | March 16, 2009 8:14 PM | Report abuse

good lord, how many players have scored their 1st NHL goal against the Caps at this point?

Posted by: CapitalIdea | March 16, 2009 8:16 PM | Report abuse

fnralch,
Thanks. It does not look good so far in the second, either.

Posted by: opita1 | March 16, 2009 8:17 PM | Report abuse

Reason why I hate that we have one of the easiest remaining schedule! We play like crap against lower teams! Wasn't that last goal on Jose? He shoulda stopped that... I didn't see the first two goals. We better make some kind of comeback... can't lose to a crappy team.

Posted by: rachel216 | March 16, 2009 8:17 PM | Report abuse

CapitalIdea: Too many. :(

Posted by: GregAnnapolis | March 16, 2009 8:17 PM | Report abuse

Brilliant

Posted by: skins1110 | March 16, 2009 8:19 PM | Report abuse

hey GregAnnapolis, where in Annapolis do you live/ are you from? I live off of Spa Road. No need for an exact address, no stalking here.

Posted by: skins1110 | March 16, 2009 8:20 PM | Report abuse

skins: Riva Rd, pretty close to Mike's Crabhouse but on the other side of the bridge.

Posted by: GregAnnapolis | March 16, 2009 8:22 PM | Report abuse

another Caps penalty....

Posted by: MReilly9 | March 16, 2009 8:23 PM | Report abuse

Now *THAT* was possibly the stupidest penalty I've seen in weeks, and I have Center Ice so I see a fair amount of hockey...

Posted by: GregAnnapolis | March 16, 2009 8:24 PM | Report abuse

Wouldn't be a terrible game w/o a horrible Semin hooking penalty.

@Greg, ah okay near Annapolis high.

Posted by: skins1110 | March 16, 2009 8:24 PM | Report abuse

It's frustration kicking in. Oh Semin...

Posted by: fnralch | March 16, 2009 8:24 PM | Report abuse

Wow refs really are having fun calling all these penalties on us.... guess we'll be killing penalties the rest of the game...

Posted by: rachel216 | March 16, 2009 8:25 PM | Report abuse

skins: Yup, when there's a football game I can hear the band from my front porch.

Okay, *NOW* we need a shorty *AND* a big kill. Please? :)

Posted by: GregAnnapolis | March 16, 2009 8:25 PM | Report abuse

Semin rushes the one on 3, gets the puck stolen from behind, and then just hooks the hell out of the player.

Posted by: skins1110 | March 16, 2009 8:26 PM | Report abuse

fail

Posted by: skins1110 | March 16, 2009 8:26 PM | Report abuse

Nationally televised game...yeah...

Posted by: fnralch | March 16, 2009 8:27 PM | Report abuse

okay, I just came in and checked the score. WOW! 3-0. WHAT HAPPENED? All I can see from the score board is that we had 3 penalties vs. Atlanta's 0 penalties. Oh yes and fewer shots on goal. Can we not have a streak longer than 3 games anymore?

Posted by: caraveli | March 16, 2009 8:27 PM | Report abuse

No more playing bad teams! I want to play Boston, NJ, Philly, SJ, Detroit! Ah crap its 4-0... Jose is not that good today. Give me Varly now. Disgusting game. Disgusting.

Posted by: rachel216 | March 16, 2009 8:27 PM | Report abuse

bye theo

Posted by: skins1110 | March 16, 2009 8:27 PM | Report abuse

there goes Theo...

Posted by: CapitalIdea | March 16, 2009 8:27 PM | Report abuse

the goalie change should have happened after the 3rd goal

Posted by: MReilly9 | March 16, 2009 8:28 PM | Report abuse

BB made the wrong decision. Everyone said that Varly should play today and Jose tomorrow, why didn't he get that? It's logical.

Posted by: rachel216 | March 16, 2009 8:29 PM | Report abuse

Bleh. I'm not giving up yet because Ovie doesn't have his goal yet, and because I've seen us with a crazy comeback against NYR.. but it certainly does look bleak as all hell.

Posted by: GregAnnapolis | March 16, 2009 8:29 PM | Report abuse

I have no problem with Semin's penalty, it was more of a frustration kind trying to do too much for himself, trying to make up for others lazy playing. This guy has been the best player for the Caps in a while.

Posted by: opita1 | March 16, 2009 8:30 PM | Report abuse

Bad teams not only beat us, they blow us out... so uh... who is supposed to play tomorrow? Varly again? And how the heck do we have ZERO power plays? I hate refs.

Posted by: rachel216 | March 16, 2009 8:32 PM | Report abuse

@rachel216, haven't seen many questionable no calls yet. And most, if not all of the caps penalties were clear cut.

Posted by: skins1110 | March 16, 2009 8:33 PM | Report abuse

There's a call. Come on OVIE!!!

Posted by: skins1110 | March 16, 2009 8:34 PM | Report abuse

We got nothing tonight... and Lehtonen doesn't look like he'll give up 4 tonight... *sigh* In the back of my head, I saw this coming, why do we struggle vs. bad teams?

Posted by: rachel216 | March 16, 2009 8:34 PM | Report abuse

@opita1

Agree on Semin. Aucoin is probably the most active player now.

Let's see what the PP's gonna bring...

Posted by: fnralch | March 16, 2009 8:34 PM | Report abuse

plenty of time left. OV almost lost the PP chance.

Posted by: opita1 | March 16, 2009 8:35 PM | Report abuse

Just a question.. why is the live chat box needed?? Why can't we just chat on the blog??

Posted by: rachel216 | March 16, 2009 8:37 PM | Report abuse

OVIE is killing guys out there

Posted by: MReilly9 | March 16, 2009 8:38 PM | Report abuse

alright, one more chance before the end of the period.

Posted by: skins1110 | March 16, 2009 8:38 PM | Report abuse

OV is really going for it now.

Posted by: opita1 | March 16, 2009 8:38 PM | Report abuse

Ovechkin is officially pissed. Wow.

Posted by: GregAnnapolis | March 16, 2009 8:38 PM | Report abuse

@rachel216, no idea.

Posted by: skins1110 | March 16, 2009 8:39 PM | Report abuse

4 goals needed in the 3rd!!

Posted by: rachel216 | March 16, 2009 8:39 PM | Report abuse

Yeah, skins1110, seems a little strange to me... the chat box is the same thing as this.. oh well, we got more things to worry about, such as this ugly 4-0 deficit.

Posted by: rachel216 | March 16, 2009 8:41 PM | Report abuse

It sucks that there's no other games to peek in on during intermissions... I didn't realize how crucial Center Ice is until there are no other games to watch. :P

Posted by: GregAnnapolis | March 16, 2009 8:42 PM | Report abuse

@greg, i just fire up a game of nhl09, can usually get a full game in with just enough time to spare.

Posted by: skins1110 | March 16, 2009 8:43 PM | Report abuse

LiveChat is annoying and the Caps are just frustrating tonight!!!

Posted by: JIMALLCAPS | March 16, 2009 8:44 PM | Report abuse

horrible game.

lehtenon has been insane.

I love Varly.

Posted by: richmondphil | March 16, 2009 8:45 PM | Report abuse

So since I can't watch the game, have our 30 shots on net been decent chances? Is this another one of those games like that philly one?

Posted by: Raber | March 16, 2009 8:47 PM | Report abuse

JIMALLCAPS: Live chat is pointless, what are we doing right now, right here? chatting live.. Useless!! I hate this game!! We'll be lucky to score 1 tonight.

Posted by: rachel216 | March 16, 2009 8:50 PM | Report abuse

Raber: Lehtonen has just been awesome... nothin' you can do about it... he's on his game. We have 9 more shots than Atlanta but we are down 4... that seems to happen WAYY too often.

Posted by: rachel216 | March 16, 2009 8:52 PM | Report abuse

rachael -- Umm, I think I agree that we are chatting here, but the LiveChat above goes by so fast that keeping up is a pain. If I am the target of spleen against the Caps, ok, I'll deal.

Posted by: JIMALLCAPS | March 16, 2009 8:53 PM | Report abuse

It looked as if BB first punished Semin by taking him off the PP but then moved him back. This IS frustrating when a coach gets emotional.

Posted by: fnralch | March 16, 2009 8:54 PM | Report abuse

I apologize for interjecting reality into a game that really and truly sucks.

On a separate track, New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said Monday he would issue subpoenas for information on the bonuses after AIG missed his deadline for providing details. Cuomo said his office would investigate whether the employees were involved in AIG's near-collapse and whether the $165 million in bonus payments were fraudulent under state law.

AIG spokeswoman Christina Pretto told The Associated Press, "We are in contact with the attorney general and will of course respond to his request."

LET ME PLEASE RE-WRITE THAT LAST SENTENCE:

"We are busy cashing our bonuses, paid for by taxpayer dollars, and are therefore unable to offer meaningful rejoinder."

Guys and gals: Some stuff is more important than hockey. These people are slime. They deserve nothing but tomatoes in their faces.

I apologize and return you to your hockey channel.

Posted by: tominfl1 | March 16, 2009 8:55 PM | Report abuse

Keith Jones called out Tom Poti for failing to be a veteran leader out there on the ice as he was on the ice for all 4 Atlanta goals. Versus also showed clips of his just standing around as goal after goal goes in the net.

Posted by: MReilly9 | March 16, 2009 9:08 PM | Report abuse

It's just Lehtonen's night, nothin' you can do about it. When a goalie is hot, he's hot.

Posted by: rachel216 | March 16, 2009 9:09 PM | Report abuse

Lehtonen = absolutely ridiculous

Posted by: skins1110 | March 16, 2009 9:09 PM | Report abuse

They're lacking intensity. It always takes a big deficit to wake them up and by then it's already too late. They need to play hard for 60 minutes, not just for parts of 60 minutes.

Posted by: rachel216 | March 16, 2009 9:11 PM | Report abuse

Another 40+ shot game where we can't buy a goal. Any bets on whether we'll score a meaningless goal in the last minute? That seems to be commonplace these days...

Posted by: Raber | March 16, 2009 9:12 PM | Report abuse

Lehtonen has been great, but we should have buried a few and have hit a few posts. Semin normally would roof that 9 times out of 10.

Posted by: Davethecapsfan | March 16, 2009 9:14 PM | Report abuse

Lehtonen on track to stop 55 shots tonight?

Posted by: CapitalIdea | March 16, 2009 9:15 PM | Report abuse

Raber: Yeah, and start celebrating after they make it 4-1, or 5-1..

Posted by: rachel216 | March 16, 2009 9:16 PM | Report abuse

I'm going to publicly apologize to the Caps & their fans now. I called a Lehtonen shut-out when we were down 2-0 with hopes that it would work like last time against Toronto. However, the Hockey Gods seem to have decided my night wasn't going badly enough and seem to want to give it to him. So, my sincere apologies.

This isn't cool, losing to the Thrashers... the Thrashers? ew, a team with 30 points less than us. What a crappy game, was hoping for a good game but that sucked and it ruined my night. I bet Pens fans are laughin', and that's making me sick.

Posted by: rachel216 | March 16, 2009 9:19 PM | Report abuse

They just don't seem to be interested in the game at all, it's like they're just going through the motions. I want the playoffs to start now, the regular season can end.

Not only losing to the Thrashers but getting blown out by them.

Here's a preview to BB post game interview quotes: "we didn't get our noses dirty by getting in front of their net.", "We didn't play my system to the "T"., "We're being to cutesy with the puck.", "It wasn't Theo's fault", Kari played an excellent game.", "I thought Theodore played well", etc... etc.. etc...

It's kind of like movie, Ground Hog Day. We lose bad to teams we are suppose to beat.

We can't just keep blowing games off like this, saying it's just a stinker. These crappy games against bad teams are becoming too frequent. We SHOULD NOT lose to the Thrashers, under any circumstances. Oh yeah, good game by Poti: a friggin' -5! Anyone else think Varly will start tomorrow? I think he should because that was the plan before theo got pulled. Was Theo even on the bench the rest of the game or did he leave?

Posted by: rachel216 | March 16, 2009 9:39 PM | Report abuse

On a positive note, it wasn't for the lack of trying or laziness.

On a negative note, it's worrisome that we couldn't solve Letho... we really missed a guy crashing the net, and a guy clearing our crease... sometimes our all-year-long problems, normally hidden, really come back to haunt us :D

Revenge tomorrow!

Posted by: mauree | March 16, 2009 9:41 PM | Report abuse

Until we start screening the goalie and crashing the net we will not score against good goalies. Other than that and Poti's off night we did pretty good for about 30 minutes tonight.

Posted by: TracyMD1 | March 16, 2009 9:45 PM | Report abuse

they should give either of their rookie goalies a shot in the playoffs. In fact they should let one play now. You already know what you have in Theo. You find out early as far as goalies are concerned, whether or not they have what it takes... Patrick Roy won the Cup in his rookie season... Brodeur took the Devils to Game 7 of Conference Finals in his rookie season. Cam Ward won the cup in his rookie season. The Caps thought they had something special in Jim Carey many years ago but he turned to be a dud in the playoffs. The way the Caps' defense plays, they have no chance in the playoffs unless they have a HOT goalie.

Posted by: joek443 | March 16, 2009 9:46 PM | Report abuse

Like I have been saying "losing this bad to bad teams is a horrible sign."
