MIke Green Sent Down

I hinted at this in my entry yesterday--I saw defenseman Mike Green get called into a meeting with the GM and Coach--but was unable to confirm the move.

Well, it's confirmed now. Green was assigned to Hershey today in order to make room for veteran Brian Pothier, who was activated from injured reserve.

I'm a little shocked, but not completely. I'll get the lowdown from club officials later.

I guess the Caps really didn't think Lawrence Nycholat was going to clear waivers. Green, on the other hand, doesn't have to clear because he's on a entry level deal and can be called up and sent down as often as needed.

Meantime, defenseman John Erskine, who's been out since December with a broken ankle, is on the ice for the pregame skate but has not been activated. When he is, the Caps will have to make another move. I'm guessing that will happen on Sunday in Pittsburgh.

Thoughts on the move?
