Monday Morning (Injury) Update

The Caps' injury situation doesn't appear to be getting a whole lot better based on practice. But we'll have a much better idea of where things stand later.

*Rookie defenseman Karl Alzner (arm/shoulder) is back on the ice and appears to be participating fully after missing the third period of Saturday's 3-0 loss in Columbus.

*Center Boyd Gordon (back spasms) skated 9:34 against the Blue Jackets, but he's not out there today.

*No Tom Poti (groin) or John Erskine (concussion), either.

*Mike Green (bruised shoulder) is practicing, but appears limited.

*Alexander Semin (upper back strain) is skating. But since he's on the fourth line with Donald Brashear and David Steckel, that probably means he won't be ready to go tomorrow against Florida.

*Sergei Fedorov (sprained ankle) is also practicing. He's assigned to a line with Brooks Laich and Eric Fehr, but his status remains unclear.

I'll have more after practice.

At least our boys are out there on ice. That's a big step forward from last week.

Thanks Tarik. Please let us know if Fedorov is still limping around. Hope it's a good practice.

God have you ever heard of a team missing 30% of there roster due to injuries. This is nuts.

Hopefully we can tread water between now and the time these guys get healthy so that come spring time we're peaking.

Does anyone know why the Dec 2nd game is not being televised? Is this another VERSUS contract thing? The good news is that it seems from here on out, the rest are televised in some way.

I must correct something I said last week. I was critical of GMGM for our salary cap situation. And while I think he was hoping for better luck injury wise, i don't see how anyone could have predicted what has happened this season. Hopefully we hang on points wise, because if the team gets healthy and surges like they did last season watch out. We are starting from a much better position points wise.

If sluggo was here, we wouldn't have had all these injuries you know.

Good question valkova - I don't think anyone really understands why some games are/aren't covered. Does anyone have any insight in to why this game isn't covered? Is it a problem specific to the Panthers? I seem to remember this issue earlier this year or last year with FL games.

I think Versus buys the rights to most (if not all) Tuesday night games, then decides which one it wants to show on a given night. At least that's how I understood it. Somebody can clarify if they know.

Versus I think gets to pick one game as "Game of the Week." It's Tuesday at 7:00 and then becomes Monday at 7:00 in a few weeks. Any other game starting at the exact time of the Game of the Week cannot be broadcast - anywhere. Apparently, this is how it works. I will check Center Ice tomorrow evening and see if this is correct. Last time it was the Caps involved, we all missed Caps vs Nashville because Vs was showing the Flyers trounce Atlanta, 7-1.

Exceptions to the Versus rule are games played in Canada, I think.
