Morning Skate Update

There's not a whole lot to add to yesterday's entry.

Jose Theodore will indeed start in net tonight against Toronto and will likely oppose Vesa Toskala. Looks like with Brent Johnson ailing (hip), Theodore's got his shot to, as Coach Bruce Boudreau always says, run with it.

For now, at least.

"He's going to get playing time as long as he plays consistently well," Boudreau said of Theodore. "We've got another guy in the wings [Brent Johnson] who has played very well for us this year. We want Theo to be the number one guy, but he has to continually play like it. We can't have the inconsistencies that we've had."

It's still unclear whether Mike Green and Jeff Schultz will return to the lineup against the Maple Leafs. Both said they are ready. But when asked for confirmation, Boudreau would only say, "They looked pretty good out there."

I'm thinking they'll get in.

Michael Nylander did not skate this morning, but Boudreau said he'll play tonight. Donald Brashear, after taking yesterday off, is also good to go.

That's it for now. But be sure to check back in a few minutes. I'm going to post an interesting interview with Alex Ovechkin that was conducted and translated by fellow sports scribe, Slava Malamud of Russian-based Sport-Express. I hope to have him contribute the blog often this season.

What's the word on Semin? Is out for a while, all I can find is day to day but it seems much worse than that.

Looking Ahead: Real Good News

The last 21 games of the season the Caps schedule includes:

13 games against division foe
4 against Atlanta
3 against Tampa
3 against Florida
3 against carolina (2 at home)

2 games against the Maple Leafs

1 against the Bruins (A)
1 against the Penguins (H)
1 against the Flyers (A)
1 against the Predators (A)
1 against the Sabers (H)
1 against the Islanders (A)

Looking good for the stretch run...

GMGM and Coach need to encourage ample time off for our injured to get healthy. No need to rush them back.

The estimate on Semin is two weeks. That's What GMGM told me this morning.

Time to grab that 10 point division lead finally!

This blog is by far the best coverage this team gets, I am even hearing it mentioned on CSN. You help make it exciting to be a Caps fan in what could be our greatest era. GREAT WORK!!!

On Saturday morning, I saw Semin out skating around and shooting. He did not go hard, but skated fairly fluently. He shot the puck, but not with a lot of energy. It was good to see him out there, though.

Good to know. How is Johnson feeling? Any better? Is Varlamov the backup tonight, then?

Thanks for the word on Semin, so I take it a couple weeks and he'll hopefully be back.

I thought Semin skated and shot with a good amount of energy on Saturday morning, even though he came out late. I was surprised not to see it in the report on practice yesterday, or any updates on Semin whatsoever, given the blogger's interest in Green and Schultz and the fact that Semin was at a part of practice.
