Morrisonn to Play; Jeff Schultz Out

Defenseman Shaone Morrisonn (upper body) said he'll be in the lineup tonight. But Jeff Schultz (undisclosed) isn't ready, meaning Steve Eminger will play tonight against the Flyers.

More later.

This should free up Green to do his thing...

Hopefully Schultz be ready for game 2.

Go Emmie, show what you worth, plaster those pesky phlyers!

Be happy to have Morrisonn back for Greener. Like Beetlejuice said, "Time to turn up the juice and see what shakes loose!"

I saw Schultz in the Kettler shop yesterday...couldn't tell what was wrong with him, as he seemed to be moving around just fine. Obviously walking around in a store and being on the ice are 2 totally different things.

Mo being back is great news

Eminger will be the MVP of round 1.

It's a long Seven game series. Get well Shultz, we will need you.

Posted by: Anonymous | April 11, 2008 10:53 AM | Report abuse

Let me make a prediction I wish I weren't making... Steve Eminger will enjoy 4 to 6 minutes of the game from the sin bin tonight. The trend I've seen with Emmy is that when he is over-matched with a forward he does stupid stuff. I hope I'm wrong about that...

Posted by: Mark Tucker | April 11, 2008 10:54 AM | Report abuse

I'm not surprised about Schultz. At yesterday's practice,he wasn't on the ice while the team was practicing it's power play and penalty kill. That told me he wasn't ready for contact. He's skating fine, though, so he should be ready for Sunday. Getting Morrisonn back is more important.

Posted by: b.orr4 | April 11, 2008 10:54 AM | Report abuse

Probably a good thing - 2 defensemen trying to come back in the same game could be disasterous if both get reinjured.

Posted by: Stormblue | April 11, 2008 10:55 AM | Report abuse

While I'm not down on Eminger, I don't know why anybody would think he would be the MVP of anything.

And I'm tired of hearing the caps record with him in the lineup. It's statistically irrelevant when compared to BB's records since taking over the team.

Posted by: FFS Enough | April 11, 2008 10:55 AM | Report abuse

I'm glad to see Emmie get a chance to play, it seems like he got the shaft this season. Maybe he'll use this as a chance to move on and get a chance to play everynight somewhere else.

I think it's awesome that the Caps are now an international sensation, maybe some of that will rub off locally, and some of the media idiots will stop dissing the game.

One way or another
We gonna get those phlyers tonight

Go Caps!

great news re morrison. this is emmy's big chance, glad to see theyre not forcing schultz back into the lineup if he's not 100%, staff showing some confidence in eminger. i have a post up about some of the line matching we may see, if anyone's interested:

From the Philly blog
---------

For any Flyers Fans going to Washington; find that moron that blows that d@mn horn to start the 'lets go caps' chants and punch him in the face for me.

You can hear that annoying thing on TV (not Coatsey...that fan and his horn) and it's 10 times as annoying at the actual game than through the TV broadcast. I know because I practically sat right next to that guy at a game last year.

WE MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!

They fail to realize... if they strike the horn guy down, he will become louder than they can possibly imagine.

Not to mention that 18K fans yelling 'HONK HONK HONK' in his absence would probably be more annoying to the Flyers faithful.

Schultz will not show his face until he can grow a few whiskers. I know the feeling, I was worried my playoff beard would not come in on time, but I have enough of a stubble to show my face at the game tonight. Give Schultz a few more days.

Tarik, was Lepisto sent back down to Hershey or are we still keeping him for insurance? Also, can we continue to call up players in the playoffs, or do the rosters lock up?

I see what you did there.

Speaking of which, I actually think the Dallas Stars' 'Lock it Down' T-shirts are kind of cool.

I believe the caps own the right to the merchandising so it doesnt matter, they can sell whatever shirt they want.

I just got back from iceplex, I gotta say there were about 30 people in the stands to watch those who are scratched practice(Johnny, Fehr, Lepisto & Laing).

And in the shop there were about 50 people and EVERYONE had merchandise they were buying. And they had run out of name plates for certain players, had minimal sizes of jerseys.

This is unlce Ted's dream come true --well dream for round 1 at least : )

LETS GO CAPS!

NBC'S PIERRE MQUIRE is predicting a "BLOODSHED" OF A SERIES can the CAPS withstand this for 7 games????

JamesD,

It's called trash talk. You may have heard of it. If they're going to talk trash about our guy, we're going to talk trash about them. If they're going to talk trash about Horn Guy (Sam? Really?), then we're going to talk trash about what would happen if they tried. And if they're going to talk trash about how their dads could beat up our dads, then we're going to talk trash about their moms could probably beat up our moms too if they weren't so busy making their ugly costumes for YoMommaween. *

That's just the way it works.

* - By 'ugly costumes', I mean their Flyers jerseys. Their faces are perfect for the holiday already.

Posted by: Kurt | April 11, 2008 11:23 AM | Report abuse

1) @MJ There are no formal negotiations with Huet and the caps, and probably won't until after the season.
2) The longer the Caps can go in the playoffs the harder it will be for Huet to leave. Howwever, we can definitly see that he may want to go back to Canada and play. The senators will probably be in need of a starting goalie after this year(Gerber is a UFA and they will probably buy-out Emery)
3) Other teams like LA may also be in the market. therefore even IF Huet wants to stay, it won't be cheap to get him signed. Probaly for 3-5 years for 6 mil per.

FIRST ROUND BOUT = BRADLEY VS. DOWNIE

its something else to get fired up about woooooooo!!!!!!!!!! philly is a s*&$hole!

Posted by: Pat | April 11, 2008 11:25 AM | Report abuse

Downie's a cheap shot artest, he wont go with Bradley he'll pick on someone like Mo or Green.

Posted by: Go Skins Go | April 11, 2008 11:26 AM | Report abuse

I'll repeat my prediction: Steve Eminger's improbable run for the Conn Smythe begins tonight. Or not.

New Prediction: Cote won't fight Brashear unless it gets out of hand. He doesn't want to get smoked again. Cote's just a brawler. Brashear is a fighter.

And, I'll take horn guy over the return of annoying trumpet guy any day of the week and twice on Sunday. I believe horn guy should receive secret service protection from Flyers fans.

My suspicion is there will be about 2-3K of Flyers fans. Way down from the regular season, both in real numbers and percentage terms. Remember that some STH's are from Philly who live here, so that's part of the base. Of course 2-3K loud, obnoxious nimrods can be quite effective.

Also, I think Eminger is going to really step his game up tonight given the chance. Let's face it, he's playing for a contract somewhere else right now, and he's got a heck of a stage to do it on. I could even see him dropping the gloves if he gets the chance.

At least, I'm hoping he'll be playing with that much emotion.

Kurt

Eminger is playing more to get noticed by another team than for a "larger" contract.

Emmy will be 25 when next season starts. Meaning he has 2 years left of RFA eligability. Any deal offered by a SMART GM of another team will be for 1,060,000 per and 2 years. (Qualifying offer for Emmy is 1,050,000 and 1 year).

Anyone offering more than that is gambling with Emmy.

Posted by: FFS Enough | April 11, 2008 12:29 PM | Report abuse

FFS,
I could have phrased that better. I really don't expect to see him rocking the red next season.

But if he could briefly rock just a little bit of, say, a crimson hue, I think we'd all be very grateful.
