Neuvirth to Washington?

Reports out of South Carolina have goalie prospect Michal Neuvirth headed to Washington today. The Caps are not acknowledging any move (s) yet.

But that might explain why Jose Theodore came off the ice after only 15 or 20 minutes this morning. Usually the goalie who is not scheduled to play -- Theodore in this case -- takes extra shots and is among the last players to head to the dressing room.

I just arrived at Verizon Center. So hopefully I'll know something soon.

Told you Theo is hurt.... UGH!!!

Maybe Theo tweaked his 5-hole....

from previous thread:

@griffin13

lmao I'm imagining you were thinking "omg that guy look terrible!!" but couldn't say it in here explicitly?

Well I've just moved on from wondering why Neuvirth has been recalled to me wondering what's Theodore's situation.

It doesn't sound like it's a trade, but more like an injury, but who knows.

@ redskins2448:

Doesnt necessarily mean that Theo is hurt. Just was an observation of Tarik's. Hopefully we know more soon, from the Caps themselves via Tarik.

I wonder what is going on? I'm also curious to see who else will be in/out of the lineup tonight (will Green return? Did Poti reinjure himself?).

Never a dull moment when it comes to the Caps and their lineup!

The thing I find weird is that the recall hasnt been announced on the Caps site. Usually, the media department quickly gets up a press release that goes as a main news story on the Caps site right after the transaction is made.

@Jordana20 - This could be one of those "keep it quiet" things, regarding the lineup... Boudreau has been doing that a LOT lately, and with good reason.

@Jordana20

I think it's cause it's a last minute thing. I'm pretty sure they weren't planning this, must be something unexpected.

@griffin13

Could the goalie with "N" on his mask be Stretch (web designer) who played goal in college and has taken practice before, as recently as yesterday???

YES...IT IS HIM!! Neuvirth could not get on a flight early enough from Florida and Hershey is unavailable to bring anyone here. Neuvirth will arrive in DC at 7pm. But in the meantime....I can't believe this.....but this guy "stretch" is apparently our backup tonight. They are literally sowing a jersey as we speak. I AM NOT LYING HERE! Johnson was told that he would litterally have to be on his death bed tonight for him to come out. Neuvirth should be in the house by 8pm (start of 2nd period)

This doesn't really make sense...I suppose there are two options really...again, none of them make sense.

1) BJ was hurt and won't be able to play tonight. We'd need a backup for Theo. You'd still expect him to warm up a little more though.

2) We've traded Theo. This doesn't make much sense though. The only deal I see is Nyles and Theo to the Hawks for Khabi and a few throw-ins? We'd need Neuvirth to back up BJ tonight.

I'm guessing Varlamov couldn't get back in time for the game?

GMGM has a talent for pulling huge trades off without any leaks though (Huet/feds at last years deadline - if you say you saw those deals coming you are lying) - I suppose Theo could be headed elsewhere?

my guess is that he is...boom outta here

Japers provided a pretty good reason as to why it's Neuvirth who has been recalled and not one of the Hershey netminders:

And another reason why Neuvirth (as opposed to one of the two AHLers) is if they recall a Hershey guy, they can’t send Neuvirth to Hershey or they lose the ability to loan him to an AHL team, so this move doesn’t further screw Hershey for a guy who probably won’t even be sitting on the bench (knock wood).

if i don't have CSN+ is there some way i can watch the game? will it be on the internet somewhere?

I was kidding....I'm just joking. I was just making it all up.

The incorrect spelling of "sewing" gave you away

Posted by: TheVampireCorndog | December 12, 2008 4:37 PM | Report abuse

So what does this mean for S.Carolina? Don't they play tonight? Who is going to back up Goepfert? The mascot?

Posted by: tess2201 | December 12, 2008 4:37 PM | Report abuse

Neuvirth has played for the caps during the pre-season, Varly was hurt and did not play much. It was probably easier to call up Neuvirth from SC then to fly him to Texas so then Varly could fly to DC in an emergency. Not good if Theo is hurt and Johnson with his hip issues. Neuvirth and Varly could both end up in DC.

Patrone

I was thinking it's #1, except Boudreau confirmed Johnson would be starting AFTER practice today.

So he made it through practice okay, and this was also after Theodore left practice early. I think it might be Theodore who's injured.

@jamebow

I can give you some more links later when I get home. Can't access that site from my office.

Meanwhile I think this will stream it:

could it finally be jt and nylander to chicago for huet or khabby and someone/draft pick??? i just can't see Chicago trading khabby. of course, i would have never guessed they'd sign huet

Posted by: JIMALLCAPS | December 12, 2008 4:40 PM | Report abuse

PLEASE, no Huet!!

Posted by: doughless | December 12, 2008 4:44 PM | Report abuse

good one redskins2448. i think the caps had to suit up their goalie coach, roger crozier one night. i also recall they had to call down their third goalie out of the pressbox between periods to dress for a playoff game ...

Posted by: dcsportsfan1 | December 12, 2008 4:46 PM | Report abuse

so redskins2448 was telling the truth, must work for the Caps and got busted for spilling the beans. GMGM made him eat his words.

YOU'RE FIRED BUDDY
