On Nylander Playing Twice
Coach Bruce Boudreau said the reason why Michael Nylander is the only one to play in both of these first two preseason games is to help him get his timing back after missing a significant chunk of last year because of a torn rotator cuff.
"He missed a lot of games last year and [it's] just for his timing. We thought that was important," Boudreau said. "We would have had Chris Clark playing in both games too, but you never know when you're flying somewhere the day of a game whether a flight is delayed and we wanted to make sure that he got the proper stretching in. The best way to ensure that is not have him in the lineup yesterday but play him today."
Boudreau added that the team is just being "overly cautious" because of the length of time Clark missed with the groin injury.

Nylander wanted to come back to DC, signed a reasonable contract, played well until he was hurt (even then he played hurt), is now healthy and ready to play. So why would we trade him when we don't need to? We can keep him until the trade deadline and if we need to get rid of him trade him then, but it seems that Nylander would be a pretty basic part of this team this year. I see him getting a lot of minutes on the power play and being important to the depth of the Caps. Why this obsession to trade him? Why get rid of Nylander?

Funny though, very funny!

Why get rid of him?
The cap, plain and simple.

We are not over the cap. Why get rid of him if we have room for him under the cap? Do we need to free up cap space to hire 2 grinders? Can we get someone as good cheaper? Where??? So this is just about the cap right? You think we are over and need to get rid on someone? Do you think Tarik would be ignoring the issue if it was an issue?

Tarik, great job following up on that little mystery. Not that we believe them or anything :)

First, sorry that posted three times, don't quite understand how or why
Next, I asked that exact question and was told that we are fine as long as Alzner plays and Pothier stays injured. I was told by the very best Caps source that the NHL computer has us OK with the cap. I have no reason to doubt him and again think if there was a burning issue Tarik would be writing about it.

Just so I'm clear -- Bob thinks we should trade Nylander?

I'm not an advocate of trading Nylander.
That being said, if through some voodoo magic McPhee has us under the Cap (or of course if the NHL salary websites have incorrect figures) we are probably JUST barely under the cap.
Now come trading deadline, if we have no room to manuever, we can't add that rental player or two, soon to be UFA D-man etc that we might like to add to compensate for an injury.

Is anybody having sound issues? Is there a fix for it?
Posted by: jmu_capsgirl | September 25, 2008 7:59 PM | Report abuse
Bob--
We might be under the cap, if Polthier sits and Alzner stays in Hershey through mid year, with zero cap room. That's alot to pay to have Nyls on the 3rd line.

Caps score!!! There's another reason he's in the line-up.

We seem to be taking a lot of stupid penalties. Is that just me?

I was told that with Pothier sitting and Alzner IN DC, we are under the cap

Sombrero- thanks for the link.
JMU- I'm definitely having sound issues. Quite annoying really, buy I'm suffering through it.

i just got access to the video and, well, is it me or did these guys all get smaller in the offseason? i mean, really small. maybe its my monitor settings.

hey, at least you can see them clearly enough to guess their heights. Took me a minute to get a stream and sound is gone, but i guess it's better than nothing. what was the deal with the penalty shot? nhl real-time ticker didn't register the point until the end of the period.

Plus, If Nyls shoulder hurts, that is much easier for the team to rub than if Clarks groin gets stiff....
