Ovechkin Nominated for Two ESPYs

Here's an excerpt from the press release:

ARLINGTON, Va. - Washington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin has been nominated for two ESPY Awards - Best Play and Best NHL Player - with the winners determined by fan voting that is open now at ESPYS.tv. Voting continues in 37 categories through 11:59 p.m. ET on July 11.
These are the fourth and fifth ESPY nominations of Ovechkin's career, as the two-time NHL MVP hopes to win for the first time at The 2009 ESPYs when the show is televised Sunday, July 19, at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN/ESPN HD. A one-hour nomination special will be broadcast tonight at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
Ovechkin is the only hockey player and one of a select group of athletes nominated for two ESPYs. Also nominated twice are the likes of Michael Phelps, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Usain Bolt and Tim Tebow. He could become the first hockey player ever to win the ESPY for Best Play - his remarkable goal in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the New York Rangers is nominated.

And here's a refresher on that "Best Play" nominee:

ok, great but....
let's get him the big Cup so he can sit all these little trophies around it for one big photo op!

Come on GMGM...2 hours, I havent heard any Caps rumors....only every other team....what's going on?!?!?!?!

I am getting tired of us not making any moves...I mean I know we have some pieces in Hershey, but we need help from outside the organization. Tarik...any word on Nylander getting a contract to play in Europe anymore???

First, the wrong play was nominated. It should have been the Montreal goal.

Second, exactly how many moves for NHL players have been made today? ZERO! Rumors are fun, but no moves have been made so harping on GMGM for that is a bit silly.

Thanks for the refresher - that felt pretty darn good at the time and now.

Man..watching that video sent chills thru me!! Ovi is so AWESOME!! Is it the start of the season yet?? :-))

Why only ONE goal? Personally, I liked the Montreal one sliding on his back. This was a nice one, though.

Ach! This guy has sick skilz.

Folks. Chill out about GMGM and trades. If it'll happen, it'll happen. He's not afraid to trade (last year getting us Feds, Huet, and Cooke) at the last instant. There's a whole summer to get the team pieced together.

I bet Cooke was happy not to come back tho seeing as how he got a cup out of it and got to play big minutes.

a great goal but I have to agree with earlier posters that the Montreal goal, from first touch to goal, is better. How lucky are we to even be debating two unbelievable goals from Ovi?

I was about 12 rows behind the goal when he did that... it was just unreal. Watching him come right at you live was way different. The video just doesn't do it justice. The fact that this one was in the playoffs is what makes it so special.

Dreger reporting on the TSN liveblog that Pronger is going to Philly... unconfirmed as of yet though.
