Ovechkin on motivation, Game 1
Alex Ovechkin talked about being the favorite and if the Capitals are a bit more focused considering three of four road teams won to open the playoffs last night. He also discussed if he has more motivation after failing to win the Art Ross and Rocket Richard trophies.
"It's the playoffs, and it doesn't matter what spot you take," Ovechkin said of being on alert after underdogs did so well to open the playoffs. "For us I think doesn't matter what the results [were]. You know, I don't care."
As for playing with a chip on his shoulders after missing out on the overall and goal scoring titles, Ovechkin said he was not concerned about those individual accomplishments.
"I'm not angry about personal stats, personal awards," he said. "I want team awards."
As for tonight's opener, Ovechkin said: "I think Game 1 is most important game in the series. I think I'm going to be a little bit nervous in the first five minutes, so you just play your game, and I think we'll be okay."
Here's what Ovechkin had to say on those topics following the morning skate at KCI:
