Ovechkin, Poti are practicing (updated)
Practice is just beginning here at KCI and both Alex Ovechkin (bruised heel) and Tom Poti (groin muscle pull) are on the ice. Ovechkin seems to be skating fine; Poti looks a little cautious.
Update:Sergei Fedorov and Michael Nylander are not practicing. I'm told they are not injured but just resting. They are, after all, 39 and 36, respectively.

Ovie better play tomorrow. The Pens are on a 5 game winning streak and they're playing really well. We desperately need Ovie tomorrow, especially on the PP, that was horrendous without him.

Why Sloan and not Alzner?

Maybe they are saving some cap space to see how Pothier does.

It sounds to me like a precautionary move to bring up Sloan. There's no point in calling Alzner up if he'll be sent back down right away.

Karl is still finding his way in Hershey. He has great potential and attitude but continues to get beat by forwards several times a game. If that is happening here it will only be worse against NHL players.
Sami is just regaining his confidence after coming back from his last callup. Sloan has the maturity needed for a big game.

Anyone else find it humorous that Nyls is resting after only playing once in the last 2 weeks?

@ CTCapsPhan
Doesnt Nylander have 5 kids? He might need a rest from that?? The team was off yesterday werent they?
I think the just want King Karl to play games and not yo yo for right now. Let him stay/play and when the time is right he will be brought up for good.

Would be nice to end the pens win streak and make them take a step back in the play-off race. Hope all the small talk is saved for the scoreboard.

you're right, Nylander getting the day off is precious. Must have a McDonald's birthday party or something for one of the 15 kids.
On another note, this team is going nowhere in the playoffs until they can find someone to pair with Green. Having a different partner every day is nuts.

why sloan again? hes the worst defenseman in herhsey right now, for 1 good game he has, he has 5 terrible ones. this is a guy they really need to get rid of

hasn't nylander had enough rest with being a healthy scratch? he needs to spend his time changing his game to fit our system. hopefully he gets more rest tomorrow afternoon.
