Ovechkin Speaks

As promised, here is some of the transcript from the Ovechkin teleconference. He was speaking from Moscow.

How are you keeping up with the latest NHL news?: "I watch my computer and talk to my friends in Washington and if something happens with Washington, everybody calls me and texts me. I know everything. I'm very happy we sign very good players. I am very excited."

Are you looking forward to playing with Nylander?: "I don't know if he will be my center or Alex Semin's center. I can't say. It's Coach's decision. But if Nylander plays with me, we will be talking and support each other and think about how me must play and how we must get results ... and score goals because my goal is to score and try to win the game."

You said were frustrated at the end of last season with all the losing. Did you expect McPhee to spend this much money?: "Everybody was tired because we lose lots of games. But I think we're getting better [because] we sign good players. We still have young team, but we sign very experienced guys. Nylander, Kozlov and Poti are very experienced guys; they play in playoffs last year."

How about Kozlov: "He's tremendous, tremendous guy. He works hard and is unbelievable player. In locker room, he's very funny and he knows what he has to do. This player can help us a lot. We play together in Olympics in same line and we understand each other well."

What are you doing to stay in shape this summer?: "I want to be in best shape in my career. Last year, I wasn't in my best shape. I fired my agent and I was in shock about the situation with my agent. I feel no good. My mind was no good. Right now I feel good. I just want to improve. Last year was good for me. But this year has to be better for me."

Have you started talking to the Capitals about an extension?: "It's a little bit secret."
