Ovechkin Update

I'm told General Manager George McPhee has looked into allegations that Alex Ovechkin punched Evgeni Malkin's agent during a recent argument at a nightclub in Russia.

McPhee, through a team spokesman, said today that the alleged incident is "of no concern."

I hope to know more later.

We already told you-

McPhee didnt say the incident never happened, he said it's "of no concern."

So you believe McPhee over Ovechkin?

Posted by: We already told you | August 30, 2007 12:24 PM | Report abuse

We already told you,

Where have you seen a quote from Ovechkin saying "the incident never happened"? I assume you 2 aren't best buddies and he told you on the phone last night.

Leigh,
From Japers' Rink:
"UPDATE: Thanks to the ever-generous Dmitry Chesnekov for passing this along:

Pavel Lysenkov, a Sovetsky Sport editor, called Alex Ovechkin about an hour ago to find out if the rumor regarding his alleged fight was true. Alex Ovechkin stated that this was not true. Alex added that this was just a rumor. Alex also stated that Ushakov and he have a good relationship.

So there you have it, straight from the horse's mouth, as it were. Rumor quashed."

You might say that one publication is more along the lines of the New York Times, while the other is more along the lines of.... the national inquirer.

Ok, well if your going to trust a guy who heard from another guy who heard from another guy, then I guess your right. I still don't see a direct quote from Ovey himself. But who even cares if he did punch the guy in the mouth. I'm sure there was a good reason for it if he did.

BTW, Pavel Lysenkov interviewed Ovechkin this summer already.

"McPhee, through a team spokesman, said ..."
is the same as
"Lysenkov, through Chesnekov , said"

You know, asking a person ALWAYS results in a truthful answer.

Hey, Michael Vick, anything to add to this?

Something in the water today? I didnt quite believe there were 70+ posts about a bar fight that OV may or may not have been involved in.

Say this much, at least it didnt happen here, if it did happen.

Nice Canadian Press article about the Caps:

"Washington Capitals could be this year's sleeper team in the East"

Tarik I love you and I love your blog and hopefully one day I'll be able to introduce myself to you but I don't think that I can read your blog anymore. These people are ridiculous!

Posted by: HolyOlie | August 30, 2007 8:41 PM | Report abuse

Agreed....never before has this kind of information been made available during an offseason, not to mention access to converse with a Caps beat reporter and some idiots feel the need to ruin it with stupidity.

If OV punched Malkin's agent in the jaw I hope McPhee takes a hard line on this incident because everyone knows McPhee would never get into a fight...uh what's that? He did? Uh nevermind. ;)

The point is this is a minor incident if it even happened at all. Give him a lecture and call it a day.

Ovechkin has a new blog ... http://sasha-ovechkin.livejournal.com/ ... it's all in Russian though. Break out the Babel Fish and Google translators ... lol.

Good! I hope he did punch that guy in the face because Alex should hate everything and everyone associated with the Pens! Maybe he should punch Crosby in his gob the first chance he gets too. Just to set the tone!
