Poll: Will Ovechkin miss time?

Alex Ovechkin left the ice in the middle of the second period last night with a suspected upper-body injury and didn't return. Today, he was seen heading into the Caps' practice facility on an off day, likely to receive treatment and/or be examined by the medical staff.

The two-time MVP has missed just four games in his NHL career, and only two from injuries. (The other two were to visit his ailing grandfather in Russia.)

The Caps may or may not have any updates on Ovechkin's status today, but take your best guess and tell us how much time you think he could miss:

[Note: Obviously, this is pure, crystal-ball speculation. Ovechkin could be at Kettler doing pull-ups, for all we know. Humor us.]

This team plays fairly well without Oveshkin, somehow it gives them a sense of urgency and focus. If I remember correctly, those last season games Oveshkin was out visiting his late Grandfather were a W.

I'm not sure if a poll like this is appropriate being that no one knows if the Ovetchkin injury is serious or not, and also considering the number of star players already out this season. . .

So early in the season, I think it's smarter to take the long view and not rush back if he's marginal. Also I think it's a benefit to the test of the team to be put into the position of having to succeed without him.

How are we supposed to guess. We have no clue what is wrong. This is a lame poll.

@Lindsay - I'd agree with breaklance - the poll really isn't all that appropriate. I mean, freedom from boredom on our end is appreciated, but dang. None of us know what the issue is, and fueling the rampant speculation with no solid information is just not cool.

@guer_j - Actually, we were 1-1 when Ovechkin was visiting his grandfather last season.

Hopefully it's maybe a muscle pull or something that can be rested this week, keep him home Wednesday and get ready for division home and home with Florida.

oooh, a guessing game. and what would I win?

Posted by: hock1 | November 2, 2009 12:42 PM | Report abuse

they should sit him out at least one game. I remember last year in buffalo when he crashed head first to the boards... I thought for sure he got hurt badly but he came back next period.. thought that was a bad decision then.

they can win without him for a few games if needed..dont want any lingering effects to hinder him later on in the season... like green last year in the playoffs

Seriously. Dumbest poll ever. I mean, why not report the news instead of asking your readers to guess about it?

In a related story, have you run this poll past Henry Allen? I'd love to know what he thinks...

Well, you know how it is in Washington: "day to day" equals 40 games minimum.
