Sit Semin and Flash. Yeah, you lose a lot of -potential- offense, but the way they are playing, maybe sitting them will wake them up.

Isn't it OV's job as the captain to give out the hard hat? Was he like "sorry guys, the hat is mine tonight, F you all"???

I would definitely give the hard hat to Varly

I really hope price gets the start in game 5. He fired the puck at chimera after he scored and he gave that 2 handed stick chop to backie after his empty netter. I wonder if he will actually leave in tears after the caps chase home from the net on Friday night and run home crying to his mommy. What a punk and poor sport!

Lapierre I think was the one who did the blindside head shot on Corvo, and everyone saw what Price did.

Boston's peaking at the right time. They look like a very confident team. Before the series everyone was talking about the speed mismatch between the two teams. Looks like the Bs closed that gap. They don't seem a step behind at all. And boy do they play a rugged style with Lucic, Chara, Begin, Thornton, Boychuk etc.

Too bad they're missing Savard. If they get any real offensive game going they'll be very dangerous. Goes to show it matters not where you finish in the top 8. There is no real advantage. Philly and Boston are proving that this yr in the East

Thank you Alexander Semin. Thank you. Thank you for the goals you are about to score.

If the Caps play the Pens again, Theo will get the nod.

Watch and see.

Semin has to find a way to get going. Even the announcers said something to the effect that he has all but disappeared.

Sit Semin? I agree with richmondphil.

If anyone should sit it is Fleischmann. He was dreadful again tonight. He took another penalty tonight and had a nasty give away on a drop pass in the so called "danger zone" when he could have easily carried the puck out of the defensive zone. I don't know what his problem is but he certainly seems to be lacking confidence and needs to take a seat and think about it.

@richmondphil

Maybe Semin didn't get a goal. But at least he got the assist to get the goal ahead goal. Have to start somewhere in the scoring department.

Okay, the rest of Semin's line has been off, on the offense front generally speaking.

And then for the folks complaining about Semin's lack of defense. I figure his defense can't be that bad, if he wasn't a minus player during his offensive slump.

Semins points will come... he just needs to learn to move the puck sooner. Someone mentioned earlier on here that it looks like he waits to long to move the puck or shoot. This allows the Canadiens players to get in close and engage him. I feel like at times all the Caps have been guilty of this. In general I think they need to work on moving the puck more and rely less on individual puck handling.

I just read this on another site - I suspect that it is realistic:

"Spending by the federal government is out of control, causing it to borrow record amounts. The money to fund this growing mountain of debt must come from savings or ‘printing’, and the sad fact is that there is not enough accumulated savings in the known universe to satisfy the spending aspirations of Washington’s politicians. So beyond what it can collect from taxpayers and extract from the world’s savings pool, the dollars the federal government is spending can only come from one place – the ‘printing press’, which in the prevailing monetary system means bookkeeping entries of the Federal Reserve.

This process of creating new dollars ‘out of thin air’ creates the hyperinflation, which the ‘Havenstein moment’ indicates is near. Sadly, like Weimar Germany, few people are prepared for this impending destruction of the dollar, but the remedy is simple – as much as practical, avoid the dollar. Own physical gold and physical silver instead."

The post game interviews on CSN were saying that Montreal will be studying the film on Varly and making adjustments on the way to Washington for game 5. Coach BB should mess with their minds and throw Theodore in the net for game 5. Montreal will probably trip all over themselves trying to shoot at Theodore that it might actually open the shooting lanes more for Ovie and gang on the other side!

the whole time i was watching the game i was like how random would it be if the score was actually 6-3.

lo and behold... kudos to stevo.

Posted by: beaupre33 | April 21, 2010 11:17 PM | Report abuse

Are people still giving Semin a hard time? Look at his linemates? Of course Ovi and Backstrom will score because they play together. The Habs defense has to respect them both and Knuble is wise enough to get to the front of the net. Semin has tried shooting the puck, but there isn't a net crasher to screen the goalie or get the rebound. He tries passing, but Flash will cough it up with the slightest amount of pressure. So what is he supposed to do? I'm not saying the guy has been great, but he's still managing to create space for himself and get shots on goal. Maybe BB should switch Semin and Ovi?

semin hasnt scored in 10 playoff games but it would be a non issue if he was working...........but he isnt ...he floats shoots then floats some more..flash is equally uninspired..play steckel laind and walker to get point across that effort trumps skill in playoff games

Posted by: wendel2 | April 21, 2010 11:27 PM | Report abuse

You simply don't sit a 40 goal scorer, especially after he had the primary assist on the most important goal of the game. When he does pick it up, this team will be even more dangerous. 17 goals in 3 games without the Seminator scoring? Yea I think we just wait till he starts.

Flash is another story, his poor play is hurting that line, I saw flash ruin a 2nd line offensive zone rush 2/3 times just in the last period. I don't want to move laich off of the third line, but flash has to pick it up or laing takes his place and laich/chimera move up.

Winning goal from the SOB line. So where are all the stupid SOB haters who can only describe the line with the c word because they have no clue what they are talking about so they just repeat what others say over and over?

oh yea, Semin is not going to succeed on a line with Flash and Belanger. 3 soft forwards who skate in large circles and are one and done in the Offensive zone. Seriously what a terrible line, it really needs to be broken up.

Most important goal of game, BACKS?

Wasn't that the shortie?

Are these anti-Seminites sure that he is such a slacker? Without him, Caps might not even make playoffs this year.

Posted by: Satchelass | April 21, 2010 11:40 PM | Report abuse

Well the shortie was important, but Moore's goal prevented me from saying "Game winning goal", so I had to put something in, haha.

. . . too much Caps (for the opposition) tonight, boy

Posted by: Satchelass | April 21, 2010 11:55 PM | Report abuse

Anyone else think the Habs fans may have cost their team a power play or two in the first period with that obnoxious "booing" every time a Habs player was touched and no penalty was called? It was ridiculous and way over the top. I can't help but think the refs took offense to it and wouldn't let the fans play referee.

Posted by: eorr53 | April 22, 2010 12:00 AM | Report abuse

2 EN's aren't that rare. Detroit had 2 last week. They usually happen when a team has a 1 goal lead with about 2 minutes left. The losing team pulls, then pulls again down 2. Martin was dumb pulling the second time, but Ovi and Backs will take the points.

Posted by: BACKS | April 22, 2010 12:03 AM | Report abuse

The idea of sitting Semin is idiotic and doesn't even deserve a response.

Sitting Flash on the other hand is probably a good idea.

I have been on the side to keep on playing him because it sets up the other lines so well and I thought he would eventually break out. Now, he has gotten so bad that he is starting to hurt the team with his play.

The only problem is that Flash is LW. I don't think BB wants to disrupt the Laich/BMo/Fehr line and I don't think he should.

So I could see Chimera going up to line 2 and having Laing play on the 4th line. I would put Walker in but he is a RW and with his board work playing on the LW may not be advantageous for his skill set. The problem with that is that Chimera's size and speed works so well with Gordon and Bradley. I wouldn't want to put Laing on the 2nd line either.

Another switch that may be considered is playing Walker for Bradley. Bradley hasn't really done too much, but the 4th line has been good so maybe he is doing good things that aren't shown on tv.

Posted by: sgm3 | April 22, 2010 12:04 AM | Report abuse

For all those criticizing BB after games 1 and 2, it sure looks like a great coaching move to put in Varly and Gordon.

Gordon has been significantly better than I expected. He has definitely earned that 4th line center spot until he falters.

Posted by: sgm3 | April 22, 2010 12:10 AM | Report abuse

@sgm3

BB will never sit Flash. He has worked too long and too hard trying to prove that Flash is elite. He'll probably blame Semin for that line's failure (as everyone else has) and keep Flash in the lineup.

Posted by: ablake70 | April 22, 2010 12:10 AM | Report abuse

Don't change the line up.

Imagine if we play Philly and Pitt plays Boston, with Savard returning? That would be crazy.

Crosby and Ovechkin are feeding off each other now. Right now, OV, Backs, Crosby, Malkin, Doughty, and Rinne are all playing out of their minds. You can throw Rask in that group as well.

In the off season, would Florida trade the 3 pick for Semin? He needs to move on.

Posted by: underpants2 | April 22, 2010 12:11 AM | Report abuse

Ok I know there are a lot of people in the DC area who are new to the sport and might not notice all of the extra stuff that happens away from the puck. Yes Semin only has one point but look at what he does with the puck when he has it. Today he took the puck from his own zone, drew three players to him, got the pass to Ovechkin who was open because of it. The Habs realize how dangerous Semin can be and taking away that weapon would hurt us big time. He also has taken pucks off the sticks of the Habs in the D zone this series. The one that comes to mind first was when Corvo dove for the puck and missed in game 3 and Semin took the puck away when the Habs were in on a 3 on 1.

As for Flash, he also has made several key plays including a great pass to set up Fehr's breakaway in game two that was very big after going down 2-0 early.

Just because a guy has a couple of games without a point or a goal everyone talks about sitting them. If Ovechkin played in game two like he did in game 1 would you have benched him? Does anyone know why Crosby has much more points when Malkin plays eventhough they don't play on the same line? It is because even if Malkin's line never has the top defenders against them they can pin the other team down in the zone and make them use up energy and lose momentum so Crosby's line can come out with energy and positive flow for their team. The Fleischmann-Belanger-Semin does that same thing for us. Also they make sure that the worst defensive line for the other team is out against our third and forth lines which is why they get better oppertunities as well. Who do we have sitting who can draw a crowd to open up others like Semin or shoot like Flash?
