Sunday Update; Klepis To Europe

Lots of fans here at Kettler for a Sunday, including a group of kids from the Reston Raiders. Needless to say, they were very, very disappointed to learn that Ovechkin isn't skating.

I'm told Ovechkin is fine, just taking a well-deserved break. Kozlov and Backstrom also aren't out there, but they, too, are just getting the day off, I'm told.

As for the injured players, Chris Clark (groin, day-to-day) is not on the ice, and neither is Boyd Gordon (undisclosed, week-to-week)

I also don't see Quintin "shot blocking machine" Laing. There's been no official word from the team, but I'm assuming that means he's been returned to Hershey.

With a five-day gap between games, the Caps are scheduled to take tomorrow off before returning to practice on Tuesday morning.

Update:I caught up with Clark a few minutes ago. He said he's getting better each day, but he doesn't know if he'll be ready for Tuesday's practice or Friday's game in Jersey.

I'm not writing a story for tomorrow's paper, but I'm planning to write about the improved special teams for Tuesday's edition.

Update:The majority of today's practice was spent working on implementing and fine tuning Boudreau's forechecking system. As you've seen the past six games, it's more aggressive. But it's also considerably different from what the Caps had been using, particularly for the defrensemen, who are asked to play further up in the neutral zone. It's especially tough for the guys who didn't spend any time with Broudreau in Hershey.

You can bet the rest of the week will be spent working on getting everyone comfortable with their new responsibilities.

Update:Laing has been returned Hershey and will likely play for the Bears today and rejoin the Caps later this week.

Update:According John Walton's Bears blog, former Caps prospect Jakub Klepis is headed back to Europe. He came to training camp without a contract, didn't earn one, then went to Hershey on a tryout contract. No details yet on where he'll play.

Update:The Klepis news has been confirmed by the Caps.
